Jacksonville Sharks use bye week to get healthy
The Jacksonville Sharks are coming off a big win on the road to improve their season record to 9-4 with just three regular season matchups remaining. FULL GAME: Iowa Barnstormers become shark bait This week, it's all about recovery with an important bye week ahead of the home stretch and two games at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in the final three weeks. Advertisement Coming into the weekend, the Sharks trail only Quad City (10-3) in the Eastern Conference standings and race for the number one seed. Jacksonville will play host to San Antonio (3-9) on July 12th before a road trip to Tulsa (7-6) the following week and the home finale on July 26th against the Green Bay Blizzard (8-5). Jacksonville Sharks beat Quad City Steamwheelers 65-33
The force was with the Jacksonville Sharks on Stars Wars night at the arena Saturday as they picked up their biggest win of the season over first place Quad City, 65-33. The Sharks offense was on fire, scoring a touchdown on every possession, while the defense made key plays to keep the Steamwheelers in check. Advertisement Tyler Huff, the Sharks quarterback out of Ridgeview High School, had a tremendous night throwing the football and he also ran for three touchdowns. Head Coach James Gibson has been concerned about turnovers but the offense held onto the football and the Sharks defense got some key turnovers to turn a big time matchup into a blowout. The Sharks are now 8-4 on the season while the Steamwheelers drop to 9-3. Next week, the Sharks will face the Iowa Barnstormers on the road looking to secure a playoff spot. Michael Waltrip joins ownership group of AF1's Nashville Kats
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip has joined the ownership group of the Nashville Kats, a founding franchise of the Arena Football 1 league. The Kats announced Waltrip joining the group Friday along with his craft beer company Michael Waltrip Brewing. The ownership group already includes former NFL coach Jon Gruden with Jeff Fisher , a former coach of the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans, majority owner. 'We now have three living legends attached to the Nashville Kats — Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden, and Michael Waltrip — all with the ultimate goal to win championships and raise the AF1 to its ultimate potential along with any team associated with the AF1,' said Bobby DeVoursney, the Kats' CEO and managing partner. Waltrip's brewery now is the team's official craft beer. The team also plans a 'Waltrip Winner's Circle' fan zone for the upcoming season. The Kats play the Southwest Kansas Storm on Sunday in Clarksville in the AF1 semifinals. ___ AP sports:
