Soccer-River Plate draw 0-0 with San Lorenzo in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -River Plate were held 0-0 at home by San Lorenzo in the Argentine Clausura tournament on Sunday as Marcelo Gallardo's side remained unbeaten in the campaign and two points clear of their city rivals at the top of Group B. The hosts controlled proceedings from the outset and thought they had taken the lead after 15 minutes but Enzo Perez's long-range effort was ruled out for offside. River continued to dominate after the break but were frustrated by San Lorenzo's well-organised defence, with Giuliano Galoppo coming closest to a winner when his header was saved by goalkeeper Orlando Gill. River next face San Martin de Tucuman in the Argentine Cup on Saturday. (Reporting by Janina Nuno Rios in Mexico City; Editing by Peter Rutherford)

Soccer-Lacklustre Boca Juniors suffer first Clausura defeat at Huracan

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -Boca Juniors extended their winless streak in the Argentine Clausura tournament as they fell 1-0 away to Huracan on Sunday, courtesy of a second-half goal from Matko Miljevic. Boca failed to recover from their disappointing Copa Argentina Round of 32 exit earlier this week and now sit 13th in Group B of the Clausura, having managed just two draws before the loss to Huracan. Miguel Angel Russo's team once again produced a lacklustre performance, with goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin emerging as their standout player after making a series of crucial saves to keep his side in contention. Yet the Argentine keeper was finally beaten in the 65th minute when Miljevic fired a superb strike into the top corner to hand the Apertura runners-up Huracan their first win in the tournament. Boca next host Racing Club on Saturday. (Reporting by Janina Nuno Rios in Mexico City; Editing by Lincoln Feast.)
