Dog treats with fish hooks spotted at Blaen Bran Reservoir

Bone marrow treats containing fishhooks were spotted around Torfaen. The laced dog treats were reportedly found near the Blaen Bran Reservoir in Cwmbran to the Mountain Air Car Park between the Upper Cwmbran and Pontypool area. Dog treats laced with fishhooks found in Abergavenny Castle Meadows (Image: Tracey Leake-Jones) In a post in online group 'The Dogs Of Torfaen' Caroline Quigg wrote yesterday (July 20): 'Hope this is OK to post here... WARNING TO DOG WALKERS! FROM BLAEN BRAN WOODLAND TO THE MOUNTAIN AIR CAR PARK... someone has put down marrow chewsticks with fishhooks inside them. Police have been called and a warning issued....' Land near Mountain Air where a 'dog poisoning' was reportedly carried out (Image: NQ) Public reaction to this has been strong. Ruthie Hamblin said: 'How awful!!! We walk our doggys up there, thanks for the warning!' Becky Murphy said: 'Not again Abergavenny too! Too scared to take dog most places now nowhere safe it's so sad and just makes me so angry' Chris Mercury commented: 'Bloody scumbags.' Enfys with her owner Charley Meates (Image: Charley Meates) Earlier this month similar cases of dog treats containing fishhooks were reported in Castle Medows in Abergavenny. According to Abergavenny locals the problem has been ongoing since March. 31-year-old Charley Meates is one dog owner who has first hand experience of the fishhooks. Her Jack Russell Enfys had to undergo surgery last March after swallowing the hooks in Abergavenny. Post surgery scars on Enfys a Jack Rusell Terrier who ingested two fishhooks in Castle Meadows (Image: Charley Meates) Charley told the Argus: 'The hook was completely concealed inside the treat. The eye of the hook was placed in the centre so it couldn't be attached to a fishing line, clearly showing this was intended to cause harm. 'They immediately rushed her into surgery because there was a high risk of perforation, especially if one of the hooks had already moved into her bowel.' Gwent Police have been contacted for further details.

Nick Cave donates 2,000 books to charity

Nick Cave has donated around 2,000 books from his private collection to charity. The veteran rocker emptied out his library and passed on tomes on subjects including philosophy, art and history as well as fiction to the Oxfam Bookshop in Hove, East Sussex - the town where Cave lived for more than a decade with his wife Susie - and they went on sale last week (17.07.25) priced between £2.99 and £4.99. Ian Falkingham , who helped arrange the donation, told The Sunday Times newspaper: "Apart from the fact he's an extremely famous person, it's very similar to what happens all over the country all the time. You've got to make space in your house for the next set of books, don't you?" A bookshop employee - who was named only as Richard - told the Argus newspaper: "It's a very interesting donation. The types of books are very wide ranging – there's philosophy, art, religion, even old fiction paperbacks. "It's an incredibly varied donation. He clearly held on to his books, some of them are quite old." Richard went on to explain the books owned by Cave had previously been featured in a touring art exhibition before being put into storage. The books are not labelled as being from the star's private collection, but fans have delighted in finding handwritten notes and annotations from the singer in the copies they've published along with mementoes such as airline tickets, maps and cigarette packets. Cave's publicist told The Sunday Times: "He thinks the discoveries will remain intriguing mysteries for those who find them." The publication reports a copy of Martin McDonagh's play The Lieutenant of Inishmore was signed by the playwright himself, who wrote: "Nick, Hope you like it. It's kind of mental." Other books said to have gone on sale include novels by Salman Rushdie and Ian McEwan as well as a first edition copy of Johnny Cash's book Man In White. Nick and his wife Susie used to live in Hove - part of the city of Brighton - but they moved to Los Angeles several years ago following the death of their son Arthur, who died aged 15 in 2015 after falling from a cliff, and they now spend much of their time living in London. In his Red Hand Files blog, the musician previously revealed the lyrics of his song Heart That Kills You help explain why they decided to leave the town. He wrote: "The words of the song go someway toward articulating why Susie and I moved from Brighton to L.A. Brighton had just become too sad. We did, however, return once we realised that, regardless of where we lived, we just took our sadness with us. "These days, though, we spend much of our time in London, in a tiny, secret, pink house, where we are mostly happy."

Argus Trims Zoetis (ZTS) Price Target to $190, Keeps Constructive View

Zoetis Inc. (NYSE:ZTS) is one of the high-margin pharma stocks to buy now. Argus has trimmed its price target on Zoetis Inc. (NYSE: ZTS) to $190 from $200, maintaining a cautious but constructive view on the animal health giant. While the firm did not change its overall outlook, the revised target reflects a more tempered near-term assessment of valuation and broader market conditions. A veterinarian administering a vaccine to a herd of cattle in a farm. Zoetis, a global leader in veterinary pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, has faced mixed investor sentiment in recent months. Although the company continues to deliver steady growth through its companion animal segment and expanding international footprint, pockets of weakness in livestock-related markets and currency headwinds have pressured earnings expectations. Argus' adjustment comes as analysts across the Street maintain generally favorable views on Zoetis. The stock holds an average rating of Overweight, underscoring confidence in its long-term positioning. Investors are watching closely for updates on pipeline innovation and regulatory approvals, which could help reignite momentum. Despite the reduced price target, Argus emphasized that Zoetis remains well capitalized and strategically focused, with an attractive portfolio that spans vaccines, parasiticides, and diagnostics. The firm sees upside potential as underlying demand trends in pet care normalize and input cost pressures begin to ease. Zoetis shares have been relatively stable year to date, reflecting the broader defensiveness of the animal health sector. While we acknowledge the potential of ZTS as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. REVIEW: Tin Can Kitchen launches summer 'Al Pastor' menu

The 'Al Pastor' menu at Tin Can Kitchen in Newport features a variety of dishes packed with "bold" flavour. The range includes an Al Pastor Burger, Al Pastor Dirty Fries, Al Pastor Burrito, and an Al Pastor Pizza. All the dishes are inspired by Latin street food and feature smoky, slow-cooked pork in a rich adobo sauce, pineapple, and lime. The Al Pastor burger (Image: Tin Can Kitchen) The burger, made with a Welsh beef patty, is topped with the Al Pastor pork, pineapple and lime salsa, and Honduran crema. A pot of homemade queso is served on the side for dipping. The Al Pastor Burrito is a "proper handheld feast", packed with spicy adobo pork, Mexican rice, pineapple salsa, and other fixings. The Al Pastor burrito (Image: NQ) The Al Pastor Dirty Fries are piled high with melted cheese, the smoky Al Pastor pork, pineapple salsa, and more of the Honduran crema. The Al Pastor dirty fries (Image: NQ) The standout item on the menu, however, is the Al Pastor Pizza. A "summer flavour bomb", it features the slow-cooked pork, homemade marinara, melted mozzarella, and a zesty pineapple lime salsa on the signature house-made dough. The Al Pastor pizza (Image: NQ) The pizza is also served with queso and Honduran crema for dipping. The team at the Argus had the chance to try the new summer menu and were left impressed. First up on the menu was the Al Pastor burger, a beef patty topped with Al Pastor pork, pineapple, lime salsa and Honduran crema. While some people may seem sceptical about pineapple on a burger, for us it just brought the delicious juiciness of the pork and pineapple to the fore of the dish, and gave us something uniquely tasty. The Al Pastor menu (Image: NQ) The same could be said for the Al Pastor burrito, which we even had cut in two because it was so loaded full of Mexican rice and the spicy adobo pork which gave it a real kick as an aftertaste - you certainly won't forget what you just ate with this monster. The dirty fries with piled high with melted cheese, smoky Al Pastor pork, pineapple salsa, and that dreamy Honduran crema are always a popular highlight with us here at the Argus, and these were a right delight. There was a perfect mix of slightly sweet pork and the pineapple salsa, juxtaposed brilliantly with the Honduran crema. Which part of the Al Pastor menu will be your favourite? (Image: NQ) However, by far our favourite element of the new menu is the Al Pastor pizza, topped with slow cooked pork in a rich adobo sauce with a zesty pineapple lime salsa and small chunks of pineapple. While there is an ongoing debate about whether pineapple belongs on pizza, in this case, it absolutely does, providing that extra sweetness to one of the most delicious pizzas we have ever tasted." The menu is available for a limited time only.
