Police probe death threat against Armada Bersatu exco member
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation into a death threat received by an Armada Bersatu Malaysia exco member.
Dang Wangi police chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, said a police report was lodged on July 2 by the complainant, who is also a company director.
"According to the complainant, earlier that day he was informed via a phone call from a friend that an unknown individual was allegedly planning to kill him.
"Concerned for his safety and that of his family, the complainant immediately lodged a police report," he said in a statement.
Sulizmie said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation through anonymous communication.
The offence carries a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the complainant does not know the suspect in question.
"Dang Wangi police are actively working to trace the identity of the individual involved and are investigating the case from all possible angles. The safety of the complainant is being prioritised," he said.
He added that police have recorded statements from two witnesses and identified a key individual believed to be crucial in helping track down the suspect and determine the motive behind the threat.
"No arrests have been made so far," he said.
Sulizmie urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting investigating officer Inspector Pang Wei Keong at 013-208 2391 or Dang Wangi district Criminal Investigation Division chief, Deputy Superintendent Rosdi M. Husin, at 013-392 0694.
