Regina police lay fourth murder charge in connection to June homicide

(GarethDillistone/CTVNews) A fourth person is facing a first-degree murder charge related to a June homicide in Regina. On Tuesday, Regina police revealed that 37-year-old Kayla Mitton had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 35-year-old Aron Lunan, whose body was found just west of Regina, near Grand Coulee, on June 10. On July 1, 24-year-old Brittian Volk was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. On July 3, 30-year-old Patrick Akapew and 38-year-old Tyler Edwards were arrested and also charged with first-degree murder. Mitton is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Wednesday in Regina, police said. On June 10, RCMP officers were called to a rural area near Grand Coulee after a body was discovered. Saskatchewan RCMP began the investigation, identifying Lunan as the victim and determining the death was the result of a homicide. Further efforts revealed the case originated within the city – leading to Regina police taking over the investigation.

(GarethDillistone/CTVNews) Regina police have charged two more people with first-degree murder in connection to the death of 35-year-old Aron Lunan, whose body was found near Grand Coulee in June. Thirty-year-old Patrick Akapew and 38-year-old Tyler Wayne Edwards were both arrested and charged on Thursday, Regina police said in a news release. Twenty-four-year-old Britain Volk was charged with first-degree murder earlier this week. On June 10 RCMP were called to a rural area near Grand Coulee, just west of Regina, for the report of a deceased person, later identified as Lunan. Throughout the investigation police discovered that the case originated in Regina, which resulted in Regina police taking over the investigation from RCMP. Akapew and Edwards are scheduled to make their first court appearances Friday morning in Regina, police said. Grand Coulee is about 17 kilometres west of Regina.

Following an investigation, Regina police charged 24-year-old Britain Volk with first-degree murder. On June 10 RCMP were called to a rural area near Grand Coulee for the report of a deceased person who has since been identified as Aron Lunan. Through continued investigation, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes and Regina police Major Crimes determined the case originated within the city of Regina, a Regina police news release said. That resulted in Regina police taking over the investigation from RCMP. Volk makes his first court appearance in Regina Thursday morning, the release said. Grand Coulee, Sask. is located approximately 12 kilometres west of Regina.

(David Prisciak/CTV News) Regina police are now treating a death investigation as a homicide — after the body of a man was found near Grand Coulee last week. On June 10, RCMP officers were called to a rural area west of Regina, near the community of Grand Coulee, after a body was discovered. He has been identified as 35-year-old Aron Lunan of Regina. Through an investigation, police believe that the crime originated within the city. As a result, the Regina Police Service's major crimes unit has taken over the investigation. RCMP initially reported that Lunan was last seen in North Central Regina. Investigators urge anyone who had been in contact with Lunan between the afternoon of Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10 to contact police or submit an anonymous tip to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers. Grand Coulee is located approximately 12 kilometres west of Regina.

Social Sharing RCMP are investigating after a man was found dead near Grand Coulee, just west of Regina, on Tuesday. "Due to the circumstances of the incident, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating the death, which is considered suspicious," RCMP said in a news release. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is also involved with the investigation. The man has been identified as 35-year-old Aron Lunan from Regina. RCMP are hoping to speak to anyone who had contact with Lunan or saw him between the afternoon of Monday, June 9, and the morning of Tuesday, June 10. Police say Lunan was last seen in Regina's North Central neighbourhood. He's described as 5'3", with a slim build and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with skulls and grey flames, black sweatpants with a praying hands design, and a green jacket with a white sticker on the upper left chest. RCMP say he's known to ride a black Supercycle bike, and the bike has not yet been located. "Investigators say the front forks are painted white and the word 'Fox' is handwritten on the front shock absorber," the release said. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
