Al Shabab defeat Seeb to lift maiden Super Cup title

MUSCAT, JULY 27 Al Shabab Club lifted their maiden Super Cup title on Saturday night following a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Seeb at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah. The curtain-raiser of the 2025/2026 football season concluded in a goalless draw in regular time before the penalty decider handed Al Shabab their first Super Cup trophy in club history. This victory also marked Al Shabab's second successive triumph over Seeb, having defeated them earlier this year in the prestigious HM Cup final on February 20 through a solitary goal by Badar al Alawi. In front of a packed stadium enjoying the cool khareef breeze at Al Saada Sports Stadium, both teams delivered an intense and competitive match but failed to convert their chances. Seeb held greater possession and created more opportunities through the lively trio of Ali al Busaidy, Arshad al Alawi, and Salah al Yahyaei, but their finishing let them down. Al Shabab, on the other hand, responded with counterattacks led by Jameel al Yahmadi and Mohammed al Ghafri, who also fell short in the final third. The match headed straight into penalties as Al Shabab maintained their composure as all five of their players including: Jonsen, Jameel al Yahmadi, Ahed al Mashakheyi, Badar al Alawi, and Yousef al Malki converted their spot kicks. Seeb successfully converted four penalties through Salah al Yahyaei, Abdullah Fawaz, Arshad al Alawi, and Mohammed al Musallami, but their returning striker Marwan Taeeb saw his effort denied by Al Shabab's goalkeeper Abdulmalik al Badri, sealing the title for Al Shabab. Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, chief guest presented medals and trophies to the winning team, coaching staff, and match officials in presence of Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Chairman of Oman Football Association (OFA), along with other dignitaries and football officials. Al Shabab head coach Hassan Rustam expressed his delight with the title of Super Cup title. ' We are very proud of this achievement despite limited preparation. The players managed to demonstrate great determination. After securing the HM Cup last season and winning the Super Cup, our fans ambitions have grown and we are targeting more silverware this season.' He ended Ahmed al Owaisi, Al Shabab club Chairman, praised the club's collective effort and vision. 'This success is a result of strategic planning, team spirit, and strong technical leadership. Winning both the HM Cup and Super Cup within less than a six month reflects our growing stature. The expectations from our fans are now higher, and we aim to compete strongly both domestically and regionally.' Oman newly appointed head coach, Carlos Queiroz, and his assisting team attended the match. He noted down several comments on the players who took part in the match. Al Shabab's historic triumph send a clear message as they are preparing for their upcoming domestic and continental campaigns, including their participation in the AFC Challenge Cup. The victory not only adds to their trophy cabinet but also set as a positive tone for the forthcoming events in the season ahead.
