One International Game Every Year for Each NFL Team is on 'The Horizon'
Could an increase in international regular-season games a year be in the near future for the NFL? It's certainly a possibility. In fact, an "international game every year for every team" is "probably on the horizon," according to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, per NBC Sports. Blank's comments during an interview at Falcons training camp on Saturday come months after league commissioner Roger Goodell said last fall that the NFL wants to stage 16 international games per year. The league is limited to a maximum of 10 international games per year under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, but that number is reportedly widely expected to increase to 16 in the next labor deal. With 32 NFL teams, that would be a big lift for the league to schedule that many international games every season. In May, the league announced the full matchups for all but one game in its record seven-game international slate, which includes the Minnesota Vikings playing back-to-back games in different European countries (Ireland and England). The one matchup that hasn't been announced is who the Los Angeles Chargers will play in Week 1 in Brazil. The current schedule is: Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Falcons owner Arthur Blank envisions one international game per team, per year
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said the league wants to stage 16 international games per year. The simplest math leads to one inescapable conclusion. Every team would play an international game, every year. Via Sports Business Journal, Falcons owner Arthur Blank said during a Saturday appearance on NFL Network that an 'international game every year for every team' is 'probably on the horizon.' It makes senses. Even if certain teams will create far less excitement than others, it makes sense for every team to be expected to do it once per year, for competitive reasons. For now, the league is limited under the Collective Bargaining Agreement to a maximum of 10 international games per year. In the next labor deal, it's widely expected that the number will increase to 16. With that (or possibly before that) will arrive an international broadcast package, primarily featuring European games that begin at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Why Arthur Blank believes Falcons are emerging from ‘a difficult seven years'
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The place where the Atlanta Falcons are now is the place Arthur Blank has been trying to avoid for the entirety of his 24 years owning the team. 'You want to be a team that every year people say, 'They've got a chance.' That's your goal,' Blank, 82, said Saturday during his annual training camp meeting with the media. 'It's not to be a one-year wonder that wins a playoff game and then disappears for six or seven years.' Advertisement That's these Falcons, though. They have won one playoff game since their trip to Super Bowl LI following the 2016 season, and they haven't been to the postseason in the last seven years, which is the second-longest active drought in the NFL. In the first 16 years of Blank's ownership, the Falcons won 54.5 percent of their games, which ranked 11th in the league during that span. They had seven double-digit win seasons and appeared in 12 playoff games. In the last seven years, Atlanta has won 40.5 percent of its games (26th in the league during that span), reached double digit wins once and played two playoff games. 'It's been a difficult seven years, for me and for our fans,' Blank said. There aren't many people outside the Falcons' building who believe that is going to change this year. Atlanta, which lost six of its final eight games last season, is 22nd in BetMGM's Super Bowl odds, but it was clear Saturday that Blank expects 2025 a turning point for his team. 'I feel strongly that we're in a different place than we have been in the last few years,' he said. 'We are in a better place now team-wise, coaching-wise, totally across the board than we have been in a number of years.' His spirits are boosted, he said, by a talented young offense that includes running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London, a defensive draft that included two first-round pass rushers in Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr., and the potential of second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. 'He's smart as heck, a really good leader. He has all the qualities you want to see in a franchise quarterback,' Blank said. 'If we get a duplicate run out of him that we got out of Matt Ryan, we'll be incredibly happy. I think he played well in the three games that he played, but I also think that it's important to remember that he only has three games as a professional quarterback.' Advertisement Head coach Raheem Morris, entering his second year, and general manager Terry Fontenot, entering his fifth, 'have done a tremendous job,' Blank said. 'I think we have the right people,' he said. 'I think they continued to demonstrate that during the offseason.' Blank still works 'as hard as I can six or seven days a week doing whatever I can for all of our businesses.' 'Fans should expect me to do everything that I can do and then let everybody else do the best they can do, and I think we have the team to do that,' he said. The owner's faith in the team was underlined by the more than 4,000 fans who showed up to watch the Falcons' second practice of training camp Saturday, he believes. 'We all appreciate that. I think they had a great time,' he said. 'Every year has its excitement. This year I think a little moreso than we have had of late. We're looking for a very competitive season.'
