District magistrate (DM) Vidyanand Singh on Thursday received detailed updates of the project. Executive engineer of irrigation division, Navanagar, Arunjay Kumar, said the tender process has been completed, and the technical approval forwarded to the department concerned. As per the plan, water would be lifted from the Kao river and stored in the Bhojpur canal and Kesath-III distribution system.
The project also includes extensive earth removal work.
The DM asked the officials to complete all phases of the Malai Baraj project within the stipulated time frame.
The Malai Baraj project holds importance for local farmers under the Sone canal irrigation system. Due to the positioning of the final outlets at Kesath-III and Bhojpur distribution points, irrigation water failed to reach the tail-end regions. Farmers in Chaugai, Brahmapur, Kesath, and Navanagar blocks of the district have long faced water scarcity during peak irrigation periods.
The implementation of the project is expected to benefit farmers of Chaugai, Brahmapur, Dumraon, Kesath and Navanagar blocks, said the DM.
