Inside Ashish Vidyarthi's home filled with furniture he bought while shooting with Rajinikanth, plates from Assam and mats from Jodhpur

Everyone wants to build a home that is unique to a fault and still has the power to make its inhabitants feel connected to themselves and their identities. Actor Ashish Vidyarthi and his wife Rupali Barua, with whom he tied the knot in 2023, have built a home which just might do justice to the aforementioned dreams. Adorned with artifacts from all over the country, the house looks like an antique shop from the movies, and Ashish and Rupali recently invited fans for a tour of their lovely and artistic home. The two start off by telling the story of the beautiful sofa placed in the living room which has been made by a technique called wood-inlay, and hails from the city of Mysuru. 'All of these interesting little things that you see around the living room, are things that we collected from all over the world. Wherever we travel, we pick something up for our home and hence this room has taken a lot of time to look like this.' Rupali Barua then talked about how Ashish Vidyarthi brought together Assamese culture and his own tastes to give her a truly unique gift. 'In Assam, there is a certain culture of hanging decorative plates on one's walls. He also loves decorating the walls but he likes more of the handicraft stuff, and all these plates have been made my organic materials, and he got them for me actually,' said Rupali. After Ashish showcased all the furniture that he got from Mysuru, he talked about how he first discovered this style of furniture making while shooting with Rajinikanth. The actor said, 'This table is very dear to me as it has quite an interesting story behind it. In 2002, I was shooting the movie Baba with Rajinikanth sir, and then I went to Mysuru for the first time. My son was only three years old, and I got some things changed especially for him..' The couple walked their fans through several other artifacts that they collected while traveling through Jodhpur, Indonesia, and Manipur. The actor also showed off the several awards and plaques he received throughout his illustrious career, and pictures of his parents kept beside his most important achievements. They both then talked about the place of worship they had built for themselves, which consisted of stuff from Bangalore, and a boundary wall that was designed in Kashmir, but they bought it from Kerala. Ashish Vidyarthi ended the video by showcasing his musical talents. He played the instrument hang, which is traditionally based on the steelpan from Trinidad and Tobago but was invented in Switzerland.

Ashish Vidyarthi recalls how a filmmaker discussed dates with him at Mukul Anand's prayer meet: ‘Everyone was wearing dark sunglasses'

Ashish Vidyarthi, a graduate of the National School of Drama in Delhi, moved to Mumbai in 1992 in order to pursue a career in Hindi films. He had already appeared in memorable movies like Ketan Mehta's 1993 period political drama Sardar, Govind Nihalani's 1994 action drama Drohkaal, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 1994 romantic film 1942: A Love Story, and Sudhir Mishra's 1996 thriller Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin. But he was still getting used to the ways of Mumbai, particularly the Hindi film industry. He recently recalled his first experience at a prayer meeting in Mumbai after the death of filmmaker Mukul S Anand, who was directing the actor in Dus, a film starring Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Raveena Tandon, which never saw the light of day. 'We'd gone to Utah to shoot. It was the first time I'd gone to the US. We came back, and he died,' said Vidyarthi. On Cyrus Broacha's podcast Cyrus Says, Vidyarthi vividly recollected his experience at the prayer meet. 'I was a beginner, a novice in the film industry. I'd never been to a prayer meeting in Mumbai. The first time I land up, everybody's wearing white, with dark sunglasses. I never had white clothes. I felt so out of place because I was the only one in colour.' If the proceedings were already not awkward enough, they turned even more so for Vidyarthi as he made his exit. 'When I was stepping out, and I'm feeling very bad, so I've folded my hands and lowered my head. Then this gentleman touches me on the elbow and says (in a measured voice), 'Very sorry. Next week dates ki baat karte hain (let's discuss dates next week),'' recalled Vidyarthi. He then remembered responding to him with the same gesture of folded hands and lowered head. 'After stepping out, I wondered what's happening,' he said, adding, 'Unless you're personally related, you don't really feel the pain. But here, you're there in a professional capacity. And you're grieving together as a profession. Everything is slow, and everyone is whispering. It's like you're in the hospital, I call you up, and you say (whispering), 'I'm in the hospital.' So I say (whispering), 'Everything okay?' I start whispering just to respect that moment.' 'Nowadays, something very interesting has come up on Twitter: it's 'Om Shanti.' Like how they say RIP. And it's followed by another line: 'Gone too soon,'' Vidyarthi said, adding, 'Call it 'Om Shanti. Gone too soon,' and you're safe. If I go, people would say, 'Gone too soon. Amazing talent. Was never used by the industry. Amazing talent.' Everything is clear. I've understood it. Society, in a way, also works according to what it should look like.'

Ashish Vidyarthi Breaks Silence On Apoorva Mukhija's The Traitors Controversy

Last Updated: The Traitors faces off-screen drama as Sudhanshu Pandey publicly criticised Apoorva Mukhija for disrespecting Ashish Vidyarthi. The reality show The Traitors has been making waves for its dramatic twists and turns. And, things took a nasty turn when Sudhanshu Pandey criticised Apoorva Mukhija, a contestant on the show, for allegedly using disrespectful language towards fellow contestant and veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi. The issue has sparked a heated debate online. Now, Ashish Vidyarthi has responded to the controversy. 'For me, that was just a reflection of real life. In reality, you meet all kinds of people, some are wonderful, some not so much. It's part of the experience," Ashish said in an interview with News9Live. He added that what truly matters is whether you would want to spend time with that person again. He also downplayed the importance of 'edginess,' suggesting that some people use provocative language or behaviour solely to stand out. 'And they do stand out. It seems to me they feel that way about themselves, too. People say things like, 'You've become rough or edgy,' but maybe that's part of their identity now. So be it," he continued. The actor, known for his iconic villainous roles, noted that a bit of drama is essential to make a story engaging. He advised against taking things personally, saying, 'If everyone were nice, where's the drama? It's the conflicts that make a story worth telling. Otherwise, we'd just be exchanging pleasantries and not creating anything memorable." What did Sudhanshu Pandey say? Sudhanshu Pandey expressed his disapproval during an Instagram Live, criticising Apoorva Mukhija's casual remark about Ashish Vidyarthi. He questioned whether this behaviour was representative of Gen Z's idea of 'cool" and strongly condemned the use of disrespectful language, especially towards elders. Sudhanshu stated, 'Is this what we consider cool? I think it's utter nonsense and a reflection of a deeper issue in our society." He went on to add, 'Even I have kids, and even they are Gen-Z and they are extremely respectful to other people. So I am sorry, I think there are a lot of problems," the actor added, expressing his disappointment. He revealed that hurtful comments were made about him behind his back, which he only discovered after watching the show. 'It really breaks my heart," he said. The Traitors is a reality show hosted by Karan Johar, which premiered on Prime Video on June 12. The show features 20 celebrities competing in a game of trust and betrayal. First Published:

The Traitors: Raftaar gets eliminated, reasons that he would rather be out with good character

Jun 20, 2025 09:11 PM IST Three new episodes of The Traitors dropped on Prime Video this week. It was Raftaar who got eliminated from the reality show in the sixth episode. He received the most number of votes in the circle of shaq, and was seen proudly proclaiming that he is an innocent. In the fifth episode, it was Ashish Vidyarthi who was eliminated. (Also read: The Traitors: Maheep Kapoor gets eliminated, Sufi Motiwala and Raftaar get into an ugly fight) Raftaar exited the show after receiving the most number of votes. Raftaar was always under the scanner in the last three episodes during the circle of shaq. He did manage to defend himself and share that he is not a traitor initially, but Sufi Motiwala brought out the plan that during the task there was a question which read, 'Who are the traitors most scared of?' The choice was between Sufi and Raftaar, and the correct answer was revealed to be him. Sufi reasoned that Raftaar being the traitor tried to name himself in the answer so that no one would doubt him. Raftaar said that he is not that foolish to do that deflection game even if he were a traitor. However, he shared that he would rather prove his point of having a 'good character' and show that he is a man of his words. Upon being voted out, Raftaar revealed that he is an innocent, which shocked everyone. In the fifth episode, Purav Jha pointed out that Ashish Vidyarthi is playing the game very well and could definitely be the traitor. Many others seemed to agree on that note and he was voted out. He also turned out to be an innocent, which came as a shock to many. As of now, Raj Kundra, Lakshmi Manchu, Sahil Salathia, Maheep Kapoor, Mukesh Chhabra, and Raftaar have been eliminated from the Karan Johar-hosted reality show. Unbeknownst to the rest of the gang, Elnaaz Norouzi and Purav Jha are the traitors. The new episodes will air on Prime Video every Thursday at 8 p.m.
