Victim of 'seat swap shenanigans' reveals how fellow flyer attempted to trick her
Print Close By Ashley DiMella Published June 16, 2025 Another seat swapper strikes again as a flight passenger is sharing her first experience with "seat swap shenanigans." Posting in the "r/delta" forum on Reddit, a user wrote that she and her husband were on a "long-haul flight" prompting them to upgrade to comfort-plus in a "2-3-2 configuration. " "We each got an aisle seat with someone seated between us, so my husband decided to offer to switch his aisle seat with the fellow in between," the woman wrote. PASSENGER DEFENDS CONTROVERSIAL 'GATE LICE' BEHAVIOR AS AIRLINES CRACK DOWN ON EARLY BOARDING ATTEMPTS "Here's where the strange part comes in," she added. "Fellow in the middle is happy to swap, but then he wants me to swap with his wife, so they won't be separated. I declined because where would that leave me?" The woman said that if she accepted the offer, she would have ended up in an economy seat. "Dude went back to economy and found someone to switch with [him] so he could be with his wife. I guess he upgraded to C+ middle and hoped to pull a fast one," the user said. 'GATE LICE' RUN-INS HAVE FLYERS DEMANDING MORE AIRLINES 'CRACK DOWN' ON PESKY TRAVEL TREND She revealed that a "delightful woman from Germany got a free upgrade and is happily sitting in the aisle seat." "I've read of several seat-swap shenanigans, but I never expected to experience it myself," the post concluded. Redditors took to the comments section to discuss the seat-swapping phenomenon and share their own flying experiences. "Here's a wacky idea that could work in 99% of the seat-swap posts I see here," said one user. "Buy the seat you want and sit there. If the seat you want isn't available anymore, buy the best option and sit there." FLIGHT PASSENGER STANDS FIRM AGAINST ENTITLED SEAT SWAPPER'S DEMANDS: 'I'M NOT MOVING' The same user continued, "If you can't be separated from your traveling companion for the length of a flight, drive." "We [have] offered to swap more as a courtesy to the person in the middle than as a necessity of sitting together," commented one person. Another Redditor wrote, "Nice that it worked out." "I would never ask someone to switch seats," said yet another person. One user on the platform wrote, "Just got home from a long weekend solo trip. Trip out, I offered to swap seats with the husband so he could sit with his wife. They were happy. I was happy." For more Lifestyle articles, visit "Today's [flight attendant] asked if I would swap so an older couple could sit together," the same person continued. "Yup, no problem. I will admit that it was my first time treating myself to first class, so a first-class-to-first-class swap was not punishment, but as a solo traveler, I was happy to help couples sit together." Another user wrote, "I feel like a lot of the seat-swap drama posts are fake (or at least heavily played up) or ... [they're] just assuming the illest of wills when folks really aren't trying to scam someone." California-based etiquette expert Rosalinda Randall weighed in on the situation, telling Fox News Digital that "no one has the obligation to switch their seat" on a plane. "Have a compelling reason that will resonate." "The person making the request has no right to expect [this] or make a scene when they don't get their way," she said. "It is one's prerogative to make requests, as it is also the prerogative of the one being asked to deny a request." She added, "Sometimes such requests make us roll our eyes in disbelief. But there are people who don't often fly, have a fear, a language barrier, or a very pushy spouse or boyfriend who forces them to make absurd requests." Flight passengers complain about maskless coughing on board as summer travel heats up
Print Close By Ashley DiMella Published June 05, 2025 As summer travel kicks off, many Americans are taking to the skies to reach their destination. One traveler is sounding off about the passing around of summer sicknesses, calling out "sick people" with "no masks" — and igniting plenty of debate and input from others. Posted in the "r/delta" forum on Reddit, the message reads, "Currently on a plane, and one of the guys in the row behind me is absolutely hacking up a lung with no mask." MAJOR AIRLINE HOLDING FLIGHTS TO ACCOMMODATE FLYERS WITH CONNECTIONS "I've had this happen quite often recently. These people are totally inconsiderate scummy individuals. We are all in super-close quarters on flights — just wear a freaking mask," the user writes. Redditors took to the comments section to discuss the issue of flight passengers wearing masks on board. "I have lung disease and occasionally I get a coughing fit. I'm not sick or contagious. Could be the case here," suggested one user. Another user wrote, "You're never going to get the U.S. to adopt a mindset that widely encompasses masks. You just aren't. And the thing is, prior to 2020 you would likely not have thought of masking for someone coughing either." CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER "This is why I always wear a mask on planes because I can't control if other people wear them," commented a Redditor. "I don't trust others to have common sense." One user said, "I carry a mask and wash my hands before (and after) I use the bathroom. I don't trust others to have common sense or minimal decency." Another person said, "If you go out in public, there will be germs. Accept it. Move on. Protect yourself however you wish. Or stay home." For more Lifestyle articles, visit Another comment read, "Keep your mask on. Take an airborne or other Vitamin C pill. More than likely you won't get sick. Relax and move on. You cannot do anything." "Close proximity of passengers increases the risk of person-to-person airborne spread before contaminated air can be removed from the breathing zone and exhausted or filtered," the CDC notes. Wearing a mask can be especially helpful during the boarding and deplaning process. Print Close URL

Airline passengers in Turkey who unbuckle too soon to face fines
Every airline passenger has heard the message towards the end of the flight that tells them to stay seated after landing until the seatbelt sign is turned off. Now, those who ignore it in Turkey will face fines. The Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation sent a notice to airlines, according to reports, telling crewmembers to report passengers who are too eager to get off planes. "Please do not unfasten your seatbelt, stand up, or open the overhead compartments until the seatbelt sign has been switched off," the notice shared by the Washington Post says. The newspaper says passengers could be fined 2,603 Turkish lira, which is about $67. "It is strictly forbidden to stand up, open overhead compartments, or be present in the aisle before the aircraft has reached its parking position and the seatbelt sign has been turned off," the notice continues. 'Aisle Lice' Is Latest Air Travel Annoyance To Spark Social Media Debate Passengers must wait until the plane is parked, the seatbelt sign is turned off and passengers in front of them have begun exiting prior to entering the aisle to deplane. Read On The Fox Business App Turkish Airlines did not immediately respond to a FOX Business inquiry about when the fines might go into effect. 'Gate Lice' Run-ins Have Flyers Demanding More Airlines 'Crack Down' On Pesky Travel Trend In the U.S., flight attendants are supposed to alert captains if passengers stand prior to the plane being parked on the tarmac, according to the New York Post. Both "gate lice" and "aisle lice" have made headlines lately as hasty travelers crowded to board and deplane. The terms refer to travelers who crowd the respective areas before it is their turn. In 2024, American Airlines rolled out a new technology used during boarding that audibly alerts gate agents when a passenger is attempting to board ahead of their designated assignment. On the "r/delta" Reddit forum earlier this year, one flyer asked, "Who do [we] hate more? Gate lice or aisle lice?" Click Here To Read More On Fox Business "Aisle lice are exponentially worse, imo. Who really cares who gets on the plane first, you're all getting on anyway. Aisle lice slow things down, delay people and cause so much more headaches," one stated.
