Woman arrested, accused of stealing more than $51K from Kohl's stores
A woman accused by an Ohio Kohl's of being a serial shoplifter was arrested last week after officers found stolen retail items in her vehicle, police said. According to a news release from the Macedonia Police Department, officers responded to a report from the local Kohl's about a woman suspected of being connected to an "organized crime theft investigation." When officers arrived at the scene, they spotted the woman browsing in the department store, but she later left the establishment without taking any items, police stated. During their probe, Macedonia police learned that the woman has several active arrest warrants in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Kohl's accused her of being tied to more than $51,000 in thefts from stores in both states last year, according to police. Fox 8 and WOIO reported that officers conducted a traffic stop on Friday, June 27, as she tried to leave the parking lot and arrested her. According to police, the back of her vehicle had an estimated $1500 worth of merchandise swiped from nearby stores. The police spokesperson told USA TODAY that Hoysack was hit with felony charges including possession of criminal tools, engaging in a pattern of criminal behavior, and receiving stolen property. She is also facing misdemeanor charges. Hoysack was released from jail on a medical furlough "due to an untreated medical issue" but had a June 30 court date. Accused serial shoplifter arrested in local Kohl's parking lot; linked to $51K in stolen merchandise
**Related Video Above: Retail theft on the rise MACEDONIA, Ohio (WJW) — A woman was arrested in a Kohl's parking lot Friday evening following a traffic stop that turned up stolen merchandise in the back of her vehicle, the Macedonia Police Department said in a statement. Kohl's to close Ohio fulfillment center, laying off over 700 Officers were called to a Kohl's on 8100 Macedonia Commons Blvd. after the woman, who was 'linked to an organized crime theft investigation,' was spotted shopping, police said. Officers arrived on scene and saw her shopping, but she soon left the store after looking around and not taking anything. Police said they were able to identify her as Ashley Hoysack, who had multiple arrest warrants in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Officers said they pulled her over in the parking lot and she was arrested and taken into custody. Upon searching her vehicle, officers said they 'found the entire back seat filled with merchandise, estimated to be worth just under $1,500, believed to have been stolen from stores in the area.' Car hits Macedonia salon; driver says flip-flop to blame Kohl's told authorities the woman is 'linked' to $51,000 worth of stolen merchandise in the two states last year. Hoysack was charged with the following, according to Macedonia police: Engaging in a pattern of criminal behavior Possession of criminal tools Receiving stolen property Driving under suspension No driver's license Seatbelt violation She is currently out of jail on bond. Earlier this month, Macedonia police were called to that same Kohl's department store, recovering more than $3,000 in merchandise in two separate incidents and arresting six women.
