Busy stretch of Delhi Road blocked for 2 yrs for ‘uncertain' Metro extension
1 2 Jaipur: State govt's recent decision to carry out a feasibility survey for Metro Line 1C extension has not only put the project under scanner, but has also raised questions on restrictions on traffic movement on a congested stretch of Delhi Road for the past two years. Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) has restricted access to an 800-900 metre stretch on the Jaipur-Delhi highway near Transport Nagar for the past two years for the planned Metro Line 1C extension. A traffic official, who did not wish to be named, said, "Large commercial vehicles still prefer this highway to the Delhi expressway due to lower cost both in terms of fuel (km) and toll charges. Most importantly, the volume of local traffic, at least till the Jaisinghpura Khor crossing of this road, is quite high. Given the volume of traffic on this stretch, such a blockade for almost two years, that too for a project that faces uncertainty, is unacceptable." On Tuesday afternoon, when Team TOI visited the spot, traffic was moving significantly slower on this stretch on both flanks of the Delhi Road. Locals claimed the problem worsens during peak evening and morning hours. JMRC officials stated that former CM Ashok Gehlot laid the foundation stone for Metro Line 1C—from Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar—on Sept 21, 2023, right before the 2023 assembly elections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy the Dip: Top 5 Dividend Stocks with Growth Potential Seeking Alpha Read More Undo Although work on shifting the underground utility lines started with immediate effect, metro authorities were asked to stop the project when the new BJP govt initiated a fresh feasibility survey. "The state govt wants to check whether this line is feasible or an alternative extension to Ramgarh Mod via Hawa Mahal Road and Amer Road is better. As the project is still officially on, we have not removed the blockade to avoid additional costs. The feasibility report is expected very soon," a metro official said.

Gehlot seeks judicial probe into Ahmedabad plane crash
1 2 Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot Friday said that the Indian govt should set up a judicial commission headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the Ahmedabad plane crash thoroughly and help rebuild public trust in air travel. On June 12, an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, London, crashed shortly after take-off, killing 260 people, including 241 on board. "To uncover the full truth of the Ahmedabad plane crash and restore public confidence in air travel, the Indian govt should establish a judicial commission led by a retired Supreme Court judge. This commission should include senior officials from the Indian Air Force and experts from the aviation sector to investigate every aspect of the incident and reveal the truth," said Gehlot on 'X'. "Following the AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) report on this accident, concerns have risen worldwide. There is a general sentiment that since the pilot is not alive to present his side, blaming him is the easiest option. Many experts question why such an experienced and healthy pilot would deliberately turn off the fuel switch. Having served as the civil aviation minister in the past, I also have doubts about this report," he added. Gehlot further said, "Even a month after the incident, discussions about it continue in the media, on social media, and within the global aviation community. The entire nation is agitated, wondering why 260 lives were lost."

AICC to hold OBC meet on July 25
Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot , who participated in the second day of discussions at the AICC OBC Council meeting in Bengaluru, announced Wednesday that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) will organise a national-level "OBC Justice and Participation Conference" at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on July 25. He further said that the Congress party is dedicated to social justice for the OBC community in the country. Talking to mediapersons, Gehlot said, "Rahul Gandhi's agenda has become one for the nation. You can see he's discussing a caste-based census and advocating for 50% representation for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS groups, including those economically weaker, regardless of caste or community, even the general category. The first meeting of the OBC council is taking place to discuss these issues." "Gandhi already conveyed that the gap between rich and poor is widening. Dr Ambedkar's constitution advocates for equality. Social security should be the main issue within the country today. There is inflation, unemployment, and caste systems affecting SC, ST, and OBCs differently. Everyone should come closer, fostering love and brotherhood, so the nation can progress. This is Rahul Gandhi's vision," he added.

Siddaramaiah pitches Ahinda model as national blueprint for social justice
Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah Tuesday said Ahinda — a Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and Dalits — must no longer be seen as a vote bank but as the "conscience of the nation," as he pitched the Karnataka model of empowerment for national adoption at the inaugural meeting of Congress' national OBC advisory council. "Let us remind the country that Ahinda is not a vote bank. It is the voice of India's conscience," Siddaramaiah said, addressing the gathering at KPCC headquarters. He said the model Karnataka had developed for social justice was rooted in fraternity and backed by data and scientific surveys. "We are here to reorient politics and reclaim our voice. India cannot progress without empowering backward classes, Dalits and minorities who have long been denied power, opportunity and dignity," he said. "And it is now ready for a national level adoption." Former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who is part of the advisory council, voiced concerns about the BJP-led Centre's seriousness in conducting a caste census. "There is a certain degree of scepticism among OBCs that the caste census may become only lip services after Bihar elections with BJP-sponsored petitions in the Supreme Court and high court scuttling it," Gehlot said. OBC advisory council convenor Dr Anil Jaihind said the inaugural session deliberated on Congress' stand regarding Centre's caste census plan. The two-day event is expected to conclude with the passage of three resolutions on Wednesday. The meeting also featured deliberations on Article 164(1) of the Constitution with reference to states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Senior Congress functionaries including former CMs Bhupesh Baghel, V Narayanasamy and M Veerappa Moily joined the discussions alongside dozens of other national OBC functionaries.
