Diljit Dosanjh to Remain in Border 2 Despite Backlash

Indian film industry bodies have rescinded their earlier boycott of Diljit Dosanjh's role in the upcoming war drama Border 2, allowing the film's release with his participation. This reversal followed multiple meetings between T‑Series, co-producers of Border 2, and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). According to FWICE president BN Tiwari, the producers told the film body that 'the film is nearing completion' and Diljit has only 'two-three days of work left.' Since the project contains no Pakistani artists and is patriotic in tone, FWICE lifted their opposition. Director-body head Ashoke Pandit also explained that recasting would cause major logistical and financial setbacks—and FWICE withdrew their demands to revoke NDA shoot permissions. But Future Films Featuring Diljit are Blocked FWICE president BN Tiwari has made it clear that while Border 2 proceeds, any new projects starring Diljit, where recasting is feasible, will face opposition. This includes Imtiaz Ali's untitled film featuring the actor. The Background: Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy This controversy stems from Diljit's role in Sardaar Ji 3, which featured Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Industry unions, led by FWICE, condemned the casting amid escalating India–Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack. They accused the collaboration of undermining national sentiment, demanded boycotts and urged removal from Border 2. Despite this vocal backlash, Border 2's producers stood firm, citing that half the film was already shot and recasting Diljit would be impractical. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit condemns Naseeruddin Shah's support to Diljit Dosanjh amid 'Sardaar Ji 3' controversy

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 1 (ANI): Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit condemned the support of Nasseruddin Shah for Diljit Dosanjh amid the ongoing controversy against the singer-actor for collaborating with Pakistani artist Hania Aamir for 'Sardaar Ji 3'. Against the massive backlash to Dijit Dosanjh from celebrities, social media and Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), Naseeruddin Shah defended the singer, saying that the singer wasn't responsible for the film's casting, and expressed his disapproval of restricting personal interactions between India and Pakistan. While speaking to ANI, Ashoke Pandit pointed out the 'jumla party' remark made by Nasseruddin Shah in his Facebook post on Monday, referring to critics of Diljit. 'We are not surprised, not shocked by Naseeruddin Shah's response to Diljit Dosan's entire episode. He calls us Jumla party, he calls us goons. The educated, versatile actor, senior person in the industry, calling us goons proves the frustration and kind of restlessness of Naseeruddin Shah,' said Ashoke Pandit. He further said, ' Naseeruddin Shah says that he was not responsible for casting. Well, I would like to tell Naseeruddin Shah that he was an actor. He could have refused to work with Pakistani actors.' Ashoke Pandit called Pakistan a 'terror' nation while remembering the recent Pahalgam attack. While condemning Shah's support for Diljit, Ashoke Pandit said: 'It's very sad that I have to, on behalf of the Federation of Western India's senior employees, I have explain to him the real situation between Pakistan and India. Naseeruddin Shah, from the last 40 years, Pakistan has been abusing and attacking India. They have killed people, they have raped people, they have massacred people in this country of ours. It's not only Pahalgam. It is the latest attack. Before that Pulwama, Uri, Mumbai Blast, 26/11, there are so many attacks Pakistan is responsible. And Pakistan is a terror nation.' He further said, 'For us, our country comes first. So, our response to the entire episode, our response to the entire film Sardar 3, according to us is right. Let me tell you Naseer sahab, we have taken a call of issuing a non-cooperation against Daljeet and we have already issued.' FWICE has also issued a 'noon-cooperative directive' to singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh after he collaborated with Hania Aamir in 'Sardaar Ji 3'. The film union body has demanded an unconditional apology from the actor for allegedly hurting the 'national sentiments' and disregarding the 'sacrifices' of the Indian soldiers by his actions. 'As an Indian, your first responsibility is towards your country. You have failed in that regard, and your professional choices have made it abundantly clear that the nation's interest is not your priority. In view of this gross violation and your continued disregard of national directives and sentiments, FWICE hereby issues a Non-Cooperation Directive against you with immediate effect. All associations affiliated with FWICE and their members are instructed not to cooperate with you on any current or future projects until such time as you publicly disassociate from the said collaboration and issue an unconditional apology to the Indian film fraternity and the citizens of India,' read the letter. After the massive backlash from the film fraternity, FWICE and social media, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have announced that they will not release their movie in India. (ANI)

‘Diljit Dosanjh always promoted Pakistani artists, boycott him from India': Ashoke Pandit on Sardaar Ji 3 row

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has found himself in fresh controversy over his latest film, Sardaar Ji 3. Amid this, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit stepped up to comment on the matter. He accused Diljit of 'always promoting Pakistani actors, singer' amid tension between the two nations. Pandit told ANI, "We are appealing to our producer bodies that please don't cast him(Diljit Dosanjh)". Diljit's film landed in trouble ever his the trailer was released. It received backlash on social media over featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) sent a letter to the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), to "withhold certification of the Sardaarji 3 containing Pakistani artists." Ashoke Pandit who serves as the chief advisor of FWICE, said, "Federation of Western India Cine Employees had issued a notice of non-cooperation after the Pulwama attack. All the people will not participate with any Pakistani performer. Be it a producer, a director, a singer or a music director. No craft will involve them. If a technician works with them, it's not only actors or performers, even the technicians will be boycotted. We issued a notice of non-cooperation on the first day of the Pulwama attack. After that, we reiterated all the attacks, that our notice is still valid. We have not changed or withdrawn it. When the trailer of 'Sardaar Ji 3', was released, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, which is the mother body of 36 crafts, immediately wrote a letter to CBFC and I & B Ministry, that this film should not get a census certificate, and it should not be released here." "Hopefully, CBFC will agree with us, " he added. 'Because I& B Ministry itself issued a notice, in which they said that if anyone participates with a Pakistani performer, we will not let his things come out. They will not get permission,' the filmmaker continued. He also said, 'The matter is very serious, because Diljit Dosanjh is a compulsive, regular lawbreaker, as far as our industry is concerned. He has always promoted Pakistani performers, Pakistani singers, Pakistani actors. He knows the reason. When the industry is appealing to him, and there is no need to appeal to the industry, when it comes to the nation, the integrity of the nation, the internal security of the nation, even then, this person makes the same mistake again and again. We will issue another notice, where we are appealing to our producer bodies, to all the members of the producer association, that please don't cast him, please don't work with him. And apart from this, all the event companies, we are writing to them, that in any of their events, don't let him participate, don't hire his services. It is very important to boycott him from this country…' Since the 2019 Pulwama attack, FWICE has consistently enforced a blanket ban on Pakistani artists in the Indian film industry. Meanwhile, Sardaar Ji 3 is set to release worldwide on 27 June.
