Green zones suggested to tackle pollution in city
Patna: Owing to the rising temperatures, construction of "green zones" have been proposed in both rural and urban areas of Patna. This suggestion was made on Van Mahotsav on Tuesday by Mousumi Gupta and Sunil Kumar Gupta, senior officials at environmental information, awareness, capacity building and livelihood programme (EIACP) at the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI).

Patna, "a heat-stressed concrete jungle" as described by Gupta, needs green zones much like the Tarumitra bio-reserve. These zones will also promote initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, construction of green buildings, cultivation of medicinal plants and energy generation from renewables like solar power. These additions would help reduce air and water pollution while simultaneously creating sustainable employment and affordable housing.
Green zones have potential to contribute to a healthier lifestyle of all citizens.
ADRI also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tarumitra for future collaborations to fight climate change. Apart from this, the Van Mahotsav also included a painting competition, a tour of the bio-reserve, a screening of a documentary on 'Mission Life' and an awareness talk about the reserve's medicinal plants.
