Guwahati: Twenty seven districts of Assam are facing drought like situation due to rainfall deficit in this year. The worst hit areas are Kamrup Metro, Kamrup, Dhubri, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Darrang; have rainfall deficit between 60 to 80 percent. Farmers are in complete distress as they cannot plant their paddy seedlings due to the severe lack of water in the fields. "We are in the middle of the paddy sowing season, and our farmers are helpless. The irrigation systems that should be supporting them are defunct, and the government seems indifferent to their plight," AASU Dibrugarh town unit president Tanuj Haloi said. According to government sources Assam Agriculture Department's preliminary assessment has revealed that 14 districts in Assam fall under the "high deficit rainfall" category, while 13 others are experiencing "deficit" conditions, prompting the State Government to initiate urgent measures to tackle the drought-like situation prevailing across the State' sources added. In a monthly review meeting chaired by Dr Ravi Kota, the Chief Secretary, on Saturday, attended by District Commissioners (DCs) and senior secretaries, the government directed the District Commissioners to identify and demarcate impacted areas. Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora is himself monitoring the worst hit areas. Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia urged Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to extend the declaration to 16 more districts, warning of a deepening agrarian crisis across the state. Meanwhile, the cabinet approved the issuance of concurrence for financial sanction of Rs 342 crore for the implementation of 'Mukhya Mantri Eti Koli Duti Paat' (Assam Tea Garden Workers' Financial Assistance Scheme-2025) flagship scheme.

GUWAHATI: Five Assam districts have been hit by a drought-like situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday. Addressing a press conference after a cabinet meeting, he said five western Assam districts, such as Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Dhubri, Baksa and Bongaigaon, received less-than-normal rainfall. 'According to IMD and groundwater commission data, these districts received 40% deficient rainfall,' Sarma said. He also said that the Revenue Department would declare them as hit by a drought-like situation. Stating that farmers, who had insured their crops under the Fasal Bima Yojana, would be eligible for compensation, he said some other districts of eastern Assam received either excess or deficient rainfall. Meanwhile, the cabinet approved the issuance of concurrence for financial sanction of Rs 342 crore for the implementation of 'Mukhya Mantri Eti Koli Duti Paat' (Assam Tea Garden Workers' Financial Assistance Scheme-2025) flagship scheme. This initiative marks the 200th year celebration of Assam Tea and aims to provide one-time financial assistance to tea garden workers in recognition of their invaluable contribution. The main objective of the scheme is to promote financial inclusion by ensuring all beneficiaries have active, Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The amount of Rs 342 crore will be disbursed in a single instalment of Rs 5,000 per eligible beneficiary to around 7 lakh workers, both temporary and permanent.

Assam Cabinet has approved exemptions for hydrocarbon exploration, streamlining land availability and boosting energy security. Financial sanction of Rs. 342 crores was approved for tea garden workers' financial assistance scheme, benefiting around 7 lakh workers. Remove Ads Guwahati: Assam Cabinethas approved notifying exemption of hydrocarbons exploration and production activities from the purview of "The Assam Regulation of Reclassification and Reclassification cum Transfer of Lands Act, 2015" subject to the payment of the applicable premium, to streamline the process of land availability for hydrocarbon exploration and production activities in the will expedite strategic hydrocarbons projects, generate premium revenue for the State, strengthen national energy security while promoting ease of doing oil exploration projects undertaken by companies such as Oil India Limited (OIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and other similar entities, it was also decided that the State Government shall not initiate acquisition of land by default. The main objective of the scheme is to promote financial inclusion by ensuring all beneficiaries have active, Aadhaar-linked Bank amount of Rs. 342 crores will be disbursed in a single instalment of Rs. 5000 per eligible beneficiary for around 7 lakh workers (both temporary and permanent) and employees (excluding tea garden management).The cabinet has decided to provide land measuring 3.5 acres on long term lease to Global Health Ltd . in lieu of customised incentives with the aim of incentivising the creation of advanced healthcare infrastructure in Assam, committed under Advantage Assam cabinet has also decided to provide land measuring 1 acre on long term lease to Lineage Healthcare Ltd. in lieu of customised incentives with the aim of incentivising the creation of women and child healthcare infrastructure in Assam, committed under Advantage Assam meeting has decided to provide land measuring 1.75 acres on long term lease to RJ Corp Ltd. for facilitating the setting up of hotel projects committed under Advantage Assam 2.0, and to provide other incentives to RJ Corp (Hotel project) under the Investment and Industrial Policy, i.e. IIPA 2019 committed under Advantage Assam 2.0.
