Don't wait for Prime Day PS5 deals — here's the 13 best early savings I've found

Next week marks the start of Amazon's annual Prime Day sales event, so you might think the smart money is on keeping your wallet firmly in your pocket and waiting until its official kick-off on Tuesday, July 8. But you don't need to wait to start scoring PS5 deals. I've combed through the current crop of deals on PS5 games and accessories and found several worthwhile savings that you can score right now. This includes the likes of Assassin's Creed: Shadows for 29% off, and the Nacon Revolution Pro 5 controller has dropped to $129, from its MSRP of $199. While Prime Day itself is likely to bring more deals, I suspect we won't see very many better ones than these discounts that are already available now. So, if you want to pick up some new PS5 games for the weekend or upgrade your console with useful extras, here are the best early Prime Day PS5 deals. After more than a decade of waiting, EA has returned to the world of NCAA football in the appropriately titled College Football 25. And this simulation of college football was worth the weight. Offering a slightly more arcade-style pace than its Madden sibling, and letting you play as the biggest schools in the country, it lived up to all those years of anticipation. In Dying Light 2 Stay Human, you'll control Aiden Caldwell, a skilled survivor searching for his lost sister in a city overrun with zombies. The game focuses on parkour, combat and making choices that impact the story and the fate of the city's factions. Plus, it's been consistently updated with new content since its initial launch in spring 2022. Experience the original Dead Rising with improved graphics across the board in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. This upgraded version of the 2006 classic sees you play as Frank West as he investigates the nightmare situation at Williamette Parkview Mall. Along the way, you'll rescue survivors and defeat memorable bosses, and also fight your way through an entire horde of undead zombies. Sonic X Shadow Generations combines a remaster of 2011's Sonic Generations, a love letter to the Blue Blur that remains a fan-favorite to this day, with a new Shadow-focused campaign. It's a strong package, and it was perfectly timed to coincide with the latest Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie. Star Wars Outlaws represents a new frontier for a Galaxy far, far away as it's the first-ever open-world game set in the iconic sci-fi universe. You play a Han Solo-type named Kay Vess, as you explore various planets and navigate criminal syndicates and the sinister Galactic Empire. Returnal is a heart-pounding PS5 game that combines bullet-hell gameplay with an engaging roguelike structure. You play an astronaut stuck in a time loop on a mysterious and very deadly alien planet. It's your job to break the cycle and unravel the mystery of this strange new world and how you came to be stranded here. Long before Elden Ring, Bloodborne and Dark Souls, From Software released Demon's Souls, the first Souls title to truly establish the core gameplay loop that has taken the gaming world by storm. For the current generation, Sony had Bluepoint develop this faithful, beautiful remaster, which improves on the original title and updates it with amazing graphics, new weapons, and items. A sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West takes everything great about its predecessor and expands upon it. In this open-world action/adventure game, you take control of Aloy: a warrior in the post-apocalyptic United States that has been reclaimed by nature. There, she must contend with animal-like machines, as well as cunning human foes, as she ventures from her homeland towards the coast of the Pacific. Set in 19th-century Japan during the Boshin War, Rise of the Rōnin comes from developer Team Ninja and blends a sizeable open world, a choice-driven narrative and engaging combat. Designed to take full advantage of the PS5, it also offers impressive visuals, speedy loading times and full support for the console's DualSense. The 14th major installment in the AC franchise, Assassin's Creed: Shadows, is set in 16th-century Japan during the late Sengoku period. Players experience the enduring conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order through two protagonists: Naoe, a skilled female shinobi, and Yasuke, an African samurai inspired by a real-life historical figure. The WD_Black SN850X SSD hits all of Sony's specifications and fits perfectly into the PS5's internal expansion slot, and it's even been named an officially licensed PS5 accessory. This 1TB model includes a heatsink and works right out of the box. It's dropped below $100 in the past, so this isn't the lowest ever price, but this Amazon deal is still a discount price for an essential PS5 accessory. The Sony Inzone H5 is one of the best headsets we've ever tested for the PS5 and gaming PCs. Lightweight and comfortable for long sessions, the H5 can last for up to 28 hours on a full charge. It also boasts 40mm drivers to provide detailed sound and supports 3D audio for immersive gaming. This officially licensed Sony controller is a must-have accessory for PlayStation fans. The Nacon Revolution 5 Pro is infinitely customizable, featuring remappable shortcuts, a swappable D-Pad, interchangeable controller weights, customizable thumbstick sizes and heads, and more. Plus, with the controller's Hall effect magnetic sensors, you can say bye to stick drift.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Voice Actor Teases Previously Reported Remake

The voice actor behind the main character in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag seems to be teasing something. Many people assume it's the previously reported remake of the beloved pirate-themed Assassin's Creed sequel released back in 2013. On June 29, a video was posted online showing Matt Ryan, the actor who voiced Black Flag's protagonist Edward Kenway, talking to a fan and signing some pictures. In the short clip posted first on TikTok, Ryan starts chatting with the Assassin's Creed fan about Black Flag and is curious if the fan has beaten that particular game. 'Have you beaten the [Black Flag]?' Ryan asks in the clip. The fan says they have, but it was a while ago. To that, Ryan responds: 'Well, you might have to beat it again...' Ryan then nods, knowingly, and smiles. 'Is this true? I gotta run through all of them again,' says the fan. 'Well, especially this one,' says Ryan in response. 'There's a reason I say that, but I can't say anything.' So yeah, it seems like Ryan is teasing something about Black Flag. Now, it could be a comic, maybe a new novel, or perhaps some special update that's coming to Assassin's Creed: Shadows that will contain some Black Flag-themed content. But it seems odd that the voice actor for Edward Kenway would have insider knowledge about that stuff or would tease it like this. More likely, this is Ryan teasing the rumored and reported still-in-development Black Flag remake or remaster project. Kotaku has contacted Ubisoft for comment. As previously mentioned, in 2023 Kotaku reported that it had learned from multiple sources that a remake of the 2013 Assassin's Creed game was in early stages and would not be completed for a few years. It's said to be more than a straight port of the old game to new consoles. A team at Ubisoft Singapore, one of the studios that has led development on the Assassin's Creed franchise's evolving ocean tech, is said to be heavily involved in helping to modernize Black Flag. Another report from MP1st in January further claimed that the remake was not just a simple port and would include new systems and content. That would likely mean Matt Ryan would need to be brought back in for some voice recording. And considering that voice acting generally doesn't happen until later in a game's development, this Black Flag remake may be launching sooner than later. In fact, Ubisoft doesn't have any big games coming out this holiday season. Hmm... . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Assassin's Creed maker Ubisoft plunges 18% as outlook fails to impress

Shares of Ubisoft sank 18% on Thursday after the French video game firm reported full-year earnings that disappointed investors. Ubisoft reported a 20.5% drop in net bookings for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, as a strong performance of the company's latest "Assassin's Creed" game did little to boost its full-year sales. "Assassin's Creed: Shadows" was released in March following two consecutive delays. Ubisoft cited "lower than expected partnerships" for the decline in net bookings, which totalled 1.85 billion euros ($2.1 billion). The company also reported an operating loss of 15.1 million euros for the year. The game maker's full-year 2025-26 outlook also failed to impress. The firm said it sees net bookings for the current fiscal year being "stable" year-on-year and that it expects to break even on a non-IFRS operating income basis. Ubisoft shares were down 18.3% as of 5:57 a.m. ET, at a price of 9.56 euros. The stock fell by as much as 19% earlier in the session. The company's shares have lost almost 60% of their value in the past 12 months, as the firm faced financial struggles, development hurdles, and underperformance of some of its key titles. In March, Ubisoft revealed plans to form a new gaming subsidiary part-owned by Chinese technology giant Tencent. The new unit will be responsible for developing and publishing its top game franchises including "Assassin's Creed," "Far Cry," and "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six." Tencent will invest 1.16 billion euros into the subsidiary, giving it a 25% stake. Ubisoft will retain majority ownership and earn royalties on sales related to its key franchises. The game maker said Wednesday that it expects the deal to conclude by the end of 2025.

Assassin's Creed Shadows reportedly coming to Nintendo Switch 2: Details

Assassin's Creed: Shadows, after having its success on Steam, is now reportedly coming to Nintendo Switch 2. According to a report by 9To5Toys, a recently spotted PEGI rating hints at an imminent launch. Several games are already lined up for the Switch 2, starting from its release on June 5 and continuing through the year. After Ubisoft's recent announcement of its new Star Wars game suggests that the next Assassin's Creed instalment may also be part of the Switch 2 line-up soon. Assassin's Creed Shadows on Nintendo Switch 2: What do we know? Before Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 in January and later hosted a Direct event in early April, there were already several reliable reports and rumours hinting that the new console would be powerful enough to support major games from the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Some of these reports also claimed that a number of those big titles would eventually be released on the Switch 2. While the original Switch did get a few high-profile third-party games, it now seems the Switch 2 could see even more major AAA ports from other platforms. Earlier rumours mentioned that games like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, GTA VI, Call of Duty, Fallout 4, and Metaphor: ReFantazio might make their way to Nintendo's next-gen system. Though none of these titles have been officially confirmed for Switch 2 yet, many of the same sources had also hinted that Ubisoft would be among the early publishers to bring games to the platform. Last week, Ubisoft announced that Star Wars Outlaws will be released for the Switch 2 on September 4, 2025, ahead of Star Wars Day celebrations in May. More recently, a PEGI rating was spotted for Assassin's Creed: Shadows, listing it for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and, notably, Nintendo Switch 2, with an age rating of 18+. It seems that Assassin's Creed: Shadows launch on Switch 2 may follow that of Star Wars Outlaws.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Uses Level Scaling, But You Can Exploit The Heck Out Of It

Assassin's Creed Shadows is an open-world RPG through and through, complete with stats to level up and progressively more powerful gear to find. As you might expect, it employs a level scaling system, where the enemies and quests you encounter get stronger as you do. That is to say, if you're level five, the enemies around you will be level five. When you reach level six, the enemies will turn into level six enemies. Easy, right? That said, Assassin's Creed Shadows level scales up, but it does not scale down. At the outset of your journey, you'll see areas around the map that are upwards of 30 levels higher than you are. Venture into these zones and you'll have a bad time. Enemies that are way above your level will be marked with a skull, and if you encounter one, you'll see a tutorial window pop up that basically says you're in over your head. In other words, if you die to an enemy that's too tough, it's your own fault. Assassin's Creed: Shadows won't let you equip gear that is higher level than you are, either. In other words, you can't immediately rush into a high level area and grab a Katana that will trivialize the first 20 hours of the game. You'll need to keep your wandering to the game's starting zones at first, and only venture elsewhere once you're well and ready for it. You'll quickly notice that the quests in the 'Objectives' tab of the menu scale as well, but it's not a hard science. For example, some quests will stay a few levels below you, or they won't go up in perfect sync with your current level. Either way, you'll have freedom over the order you tackle your objectives in. Don't feel pressured to tackle all your low level quests first. Scaling applies to rewards too, which is a pretty big deal. For example, when you're just starting out, you might notice that completing The Wounded questline will award you with a Legendary Kusarigama. This will likely appear as a level six weapon at first, but it will actually be much higher in level by the time you earn it thanks to the EXP you'll gain along the way. You can use this information to game the system so you get the biggest jumps in power from your gear. For example, if you're happy with the Katana you're currently using, and you see a Castle that awards a Legendary weapon, you could choose to hold off clearing it until you've gained a few more levels. That way, you can ensure you get a shiny new weapon that matches your current level as soon as your old weapon starts falling behind in strength. Of course, if you'd prefer to just tackle these kinds of challenges the moment you see them, Assassin's Creed Shadows has you covered too. If you do find that one perfect piece of gear that you never want to let go of, don't worry if you happened to get it at a low level. By visiting the Forge in your hideout, you can spend resources to upgrade your equipment up to your current level. If you're still looking for your Blacksmith, you can check out our guide here. Don't be like me and miss this for four hours because you weren't paying attention during the cutscenes with Creed Shadows is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs. .
