Inter Milan Going All-In On Signing Atalanta Talisman – No ‘Plan B'

Inter Milan are going all-in to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, and aren't thinking about any 'Plan B.' This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri expect Atalanta's response today. This is likely to be the decisive day in Inter Milan's pursuit of Ademola Lookman. The Nerazzurri made their second offer for the Nigerian international earlier this week. They upped their bid from €40 million to €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons. Atalanta have not yet given Inter a formal response. But they will give the Nerazzurri their answer today. Inter All-In On Ademola Lookman – No 'Plan B' BERGAMO, ITALY – MAY 12: Ademola Lookman of Atalanta warms up prior to the Serie A match between Atalanta and AS Roma at Gewiss Stadium on May 12, 2025 in Bergamo, Italy. (Photo by) As the Corriere dello Sport note, there is no guarantee that Atalanta will accept Inter's most recent bid. However, even if La Dea turn down the bid, it will not deter Inter. The Nerazzurri have told Atalanta that they will not go any higher with their offer – that the €45 million including add-ons is 'take it or leave it.' But the Corriere note that Inter already told Atalanta that about their initial €40 million bid. Therefore, they would likely be willing to raise it a bit more if they have to. Atalanta, the newspaper suggest, will naturally want to get every penny they can for Lookman. And show their own supporters that they negotiated hard to sell the 27-year-old. But, the Corriere report, Atalanta are ultimately close to giving Inter the green light. And for this reason, the newspaper expect, Inter have no intention of considering alternative targets. There is no 'Plan B' as they are fully confident they'll wrap up a deal within the next few days.

Evan Ferguson can follow in Serie A star's footsteps under Roma boss Gasperini

Gian Piero Gasperini will be key to Evan Ferguson's success in Serie A - just as he was for Ademola Lookman at Atalanta. That's the verdict of former Ireland striker Clinton Morrison, who likes what he has heard so far from the new Roma manager. Gasperini has spoken highly of the 20-year-old, who has made an explosive start to life with the Italian giants. Ferguson has scored five goals in his first two appearances for Roma, ahead of Thursday's pre-season friendly against French side Cannes. That tally includes the winner last weekend against Kaiserslautern, and it was a goal that had Gasperini singing the praises of his on-loan striker. Having achieved success at Atalanta by playing a high press, he has introduced that system at his new club - and Ferguson is the ideal fit to lead the line with his aggressive style of play. Lookman (27) bounced around clubs such as Charlton, Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester City without ever looking like a prolific goalscorer. In his first season at Atalanta, however, he scored 15 goals in 33 games, almost double his previous best tally, and in three seasons under Gasperini he found the net 52 times. That included a hat-trick in Atalanta's Europa League final win against Bayer Leverkusen at the Aviva Stadium in 2024. Hailing the influence his new boss can have on Ferguson, Morrison said: 'It's geared up for him. Gasperini is a top manager." Speaking to MirrorSport via Freebets, he continued: 'Look at what he did at Atalanta. Just look at (Ademola) Lookman, Gasparini took his game to another level. Now every big club wants Lookman. 'Roma have gained a fantastic manager, and Atalanta have lost one. Ferguson will come on leaps and bounds under him. 'When you have a manager making those kinds of quotes about you as a striker - which I was - it gives you confidence. 'That's what Ferguson needs; an arm around the shoulder, a bit of love, and he'll score goals. Most strikers need that.' Morrison reckons strikers are more in need of a sympathetic manager than most positions, given how confidence can affect performance. 'I probably had two (managers that talked up my strengths). One crazy, one alright! Steve Bruce was great, he always thought highly of me,' said the former Crystal Palace and Birmingham City forward. 'And Neil Warnock, he's the crazy one, used to manage the youth team and always praised my movement and finishing to them. They both knew how to get the best out of me. 'Footballers are built differently. Some don't need the love or attention, they just play. But strikers? We need that praise, that belief. 'Ferguson's had a few years where things haven't quite gone to plan, but this season could be huge for him.' The Meathman's confidence will be sky high after his brilliant start to life in the Italian capital, where he is on a season-long loan ahead of a potential €40million permanent move next summer. While his four-goal debut display came in a behind-closed-doors game against Serie D opposition, Morrison says that fact is irrelevant in the greater scheme of things. 'I saw the four goals. People were saying, 'Oh, but look who it's against'. I don't care. He's a striker; pre-season games are still games,' he said. 'If you score four goals, that's fantastic, and it'll give him confidence moving forward. Then to score the winner against Kaiserslautern, that's great, too. 'First and foremost, when you go to a new club, people are looking at you thinking, 'What can he bring?'. Well, scoring five goals in two games says, 'I'm a natural goalscorer'. Long may it continue.' Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email .
