What Russell Martin told the Rangers legends as Ibrox icon opens up on big pow wow
The Ibrox boss invited a gang of greats into the club to hear their thoughts and spell out his own vision Ian Durrant has pulled back the curtain on the meeting he and other legends had with new Rangers boss Russell Martin. Martin invited a clutch of Ibrox icons into the fold so he could glean some advice – and set out his own vision for the Scottish giants. Durrant got a close-up feel for the new manager and his plans for Rangers when the 58-year-old was ushered into Auchenhowie along with fellow ex-Gers greats Lee McCulloch and John Brown. And first impressions were positive. Durrant said: 'It was nice. I've been doing a wee bit of work with the club and they invited us over. 'He was just bouncing a few things off us, asking us what we think. 'We told him - you just need to win. That's the be all and end all. 'Get your the recruitment right. He was good. 'He spoke very well, just the way he outlined the way he wants to go. You've got to back him. 'He's certainly got the backing of the club now with the new regime coming in. As I said, there will be tough games, especially the Champions League qualifier. 'You've got the second leg now. There's a financial burden in terms of what that could do for the club. It's come at an early time but he's working every day. 'He spoke about the fitness levels of the team. 'It looked like the second half on Tuesday that he's worked them really hard. He had a great week down at St George's. He's got all his players back. 'He's hopefully got a couple more players now. Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers missed a fair chunk of pre-season. 'They're a wee bit behind but they'll get game time on Saturday. 'He wants his team so fit. He said that the way he plays, it might take the last 10-15 minutes to break teams down but the only way they're going to break them down is if they are fitter than the other teams.'

Rangers set to send goalkeeper on loan to Championship club
The 19-year-old is highly regarded at Auchenhowie and is seen as a potential future number one at Ibrox. First team game time would help in his development at East End Park, with boss Neil Lennon in the market for a new shot-stopper. According to Rangers Review, discussions are ongoing between both clubs as they seek to agree on a loan deal that would allow the teenager to play in the Championship for the season ahead. Munn is contracted to Rangers until 2028 and made his first team debut in a Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh last season. Read more: Manager Russell Martin was keen to add to his goalkeeping options and explored the possibility of bringing in Brighton's Carl Rushworth, whom he worked with previously at Swansea. Pierce Charles of Sheffield Wednesday was another name linked. However, Kieran Wright has just penned a new deal with [[Rangers]] and could spend the season as third choice behind Jack Butland and Liam Kelly. Butland had a shaky campaign last time out but started strongly with an assured display against Panathinaikos. Speaking on the goalkeeping situation during pre-season, Martin said: "I think you need to have two good goalkeepers, ideally three at a club like this. "I think it's the same as any position. "We'll keep assessing what they can do, what they can't do. "We have two good goalkeepers, we're fortunate with that. "But at the minute I've been happy with the two guys (Butland and Kelly)."

Jose Cifuentes returns to Rangers with a point to prove as seemingly inevitable Ibrox exit on hold
Cifuentes will report back to Auchenhowie aiming to impress Russell Martin after a year in Greece didn't yield a permanent switch Jose Cifuentes will report back at Ibrox on Friday determined to kick-start his Rangers career. The Ecuadorian midfield man is to rejoin his Gers team-mates after a year in Greece. Recruited by former gaffer Michael Beale two summers ago, the £1.2million signing from MLS side Los Angeles FC was hailed by the Londoner as the man to take his side 'to another level'. But he found himself knocked down the Ibrox pecking order when Philippe Clement came in to replace Beale, who was sacked after a nightmare start to the campaign. The 26-year-old was first sent on loan to Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro but was farmed out again, this time to Greek SuperLeague side Aris Salonika, after another difficult spell in South America. But sources close to the player insist he is flying back to Glasgow with his confidence soaring after a successful year by the Aegean Sea. Cifuentes registered 29 appearances for a side that finished fifth to qualify for the Europa Conference League. Aris initially negotiated a £4m option to buy the midfielder but failed in their attempts to persuade Gers to lower the asking price. Cifuentes' camp also held talks with Greek giants Olympiacos over the summer but the player has decided he wants to return to Glasgow and fight for his place in Russell Martin's new-look Light Blues line-up. The new boss has promised every member of the Gers squad they will be given a chance to impress as he wipes the slate clean following last year's trophy-less season. And Cifu is determined to win over the former Southampton gaffer as he prepares to take on Nico Raskin, Mohamed Diomande and new signing Joe Rothwell for a starting berth.
