Mercedes-Benz India has announced that the AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe will be entering Indian shores on August 12. First unveiled globally in December 2024, this will be the second CLE model in India following the CLE 300 Cabriolet introduced last August. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe comes in as a successor to both the C-Class and E-Class coupes. With this luxury performance coupe, Mercedes-Benz continues to broaden its AMG lineup in India. In the Indian market, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe is expected to compete against the BMW M2 and Audi RS5, based on their ex-showroom price ranges. The Coupe will most likely be priced above the outgoing C-Class Coupe. Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe: Design The CLE 53 Coupe adopts a bold and athletic exterior, distinguished by the AMG-specific Panamericana grille with vertical slats and sharply styled LED headlamps. Compared to the CLE Cabriolet, the front bumper has a more aggressive design, complete with a wide air intake for enhanced presence. Along the sides, the car features flared wheel arches and functional vents behind the front wheels, further underlining its performance-oriented character. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels are offered, while larger 20-inch options are available. At the rear, the coupe sports a sleek full-width tail-lamp design, quad exhaust outlets, a gloss-black diffuser, and twin air vents flanking the bumper. These include a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel wrapped in a mix of Alcantara and leather with red contrast stitching and integrated touch controls. The cabin adopts a darker, sportier theme with black upholstery and carbon-fibre trim, contrasting with the lighter interior seen in the standard convertible. Key equipment includes an 11.9-inch vertically oriented infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and premium features like 64-colour ambient lighting, a Burmester audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, memory-function electric seats, wireless charging, and a head-up display. Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe: Engine and performance Under the hood, the CLE 53 4Matic+ is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The setup produces 449 hp and 560 Nm of torque, with an additional 40 Nm available temporarily through Overboost. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and Mercedes-AMG's 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. The coupe can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 4.2 seconds. While the standard top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph, it can be raised to 270 kmph with the optional AMG Performance Package.

Fundraiser to support family of Irishman who died in collision in US raises more than $120,000

A FUNDRAISER to help support the family of an Irishman who died in a collision in the US has raised more than $120,000. Damien O'Brien, 35, died in the incident while walking home in Huntington Beach in California on Sunday. According to a GoFundMe page set up by his employer, Mr O'Brien was married with two young sons, while his wife was pregnant with their third child. Mr O'Brien had worked for TM Grady Builders in California for almost 12 years and was their Vice President of Operations. The fundraiser, set up by company founder Tim Grady, said Mr O'Brien 'left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him'. "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of our Vice President of Operations, Damien O'Brien, in a tragic accident on Sunday July 6," it read. "Damien was an extraordinary man, a leader and a beloved member of our TM Grady Builder family, known for his dedication, warmth, wisdom and professionalism. "His contributions to our projects and his genuine care for our clients left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him." It added that Mr O'Brien is survived by two young sons and his wife, who is expecting their third son in September. "Your donation will go to Damien's family to help with monthly bills and any unexpected expenses," it continued. "We can make a difference in Damien's family's life by coming together to support them during this challenging time. "Thank you from the TM Grady Family on behalf of the O'Brien family." Mr O'Brien played for the Wild Geese Gaelic football club in Huntington Beach. According to the club's Facebook page, Mr O'Brien was born in Co. Tyrone but raised in Co. Donegal and joined the club in 2014. In a statement, USGAA — the administrative body for Gaelic games in the US — said: "With heavy hearts, USGAA is extremely saddened to inform you of the tragic passing of LA Geese member, Damien O'Brien." It added: "The company that Damien worked for has set up a GoFundMe to help alleviate the financial stress his sudden passing has caused his family. "Please help support them with current and future bills by kindly donating what you can to his heartbroken family." In a post on Facebook, the official Donegal GAA page also urged people to support the fundraiser, adding: "Our thoughts and prayers are with The O'Brien & O'Connor families in the difficult days ahead." The Huntington Beach Police Department confirmed that it had been called to a road traffic collision at around 12.43am on Sunday, July 6. "Paramedics were called to the scene however the pedestrian was later pronounced deceased," it said in a statement. "Impairment is suspected with the driver of the Audi RS5." Police arrest Orange resident after Huntington Beach man fatally struck by car

A 21-year-old man from Orange was arrested Sunday morning after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Huntington Beach. The incident happened at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Atlanta Avenue and Delaware Street. Police said in a news release that the pedestrian, identified only as a 35-year-old man from Huntington Beach, was lying unconscious in the intersection. Paramedics were called to the scene but the man was later pronounced dead. Due to suspected impairment, police arrested the driver without incident. According to arrest logs, he was identified as Nathan Ethan Avina. Based on the initial police investigation, Avina's Audi RS5 was traveling east on Atlanta Avenue when it allegedly struck the pedestrian east of the Delaware Street intersection. The collision investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Huntington Beach Police Department Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team. Irishman killed after being struck by a car in the US

A DONEGAL MAN has been killed in the US after he was struck by a car in the early hours of yesterday morning in California. The man, aged 35, had been living in America for a number of years. The incident took place at a junction in the Huntington Beach area just before 1am (9am Irish time) yesterday. The driver of the black Audi RS5, a 21-year-old male, has been arrested following suspicions of impairment, police said. He is currently detained in the custody of Huntington Beach Police Department. Advertisement The Irishman was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. He has a partner and is also a father of young children. His immediate family in Donegal have been informed of his death. His name has not been released publicly until all family members have been informed of his tragic passing. The Department of Foreign Affairs has been contacted for a comment on the incident.
