Gen Z is killing off traditional polite phrases like ‘excuse me' for ‘huh' and ‘what', research reveals
GEN Z is ditching age-old polite phrases like 'excuse me?' and 'pardon?' – swapping them out for blunt alternatives such as 'huh?', 'what?' and 'come again?', new research shows. The study, carried out across the UK, found that 75 per cent of younger Brits think 'pardon?' sounds too formal – with one in ten admitting they never use it at all. 2 Half of Gen Z (51 per cent) often feel too awkward to ask someone to repeat themselves and simply nod along insted Instead, many reach for less traditional responses like 'come again?' (18 per cent), 'eh?' (13 per cent), 'you what?' (11 per cent), and even 'I zoned out' (six per cent) when they haven't heard something properly. Half of Gen Z (51 per cent) often feel too awkward to ask someone to repeat themselves and simply nod along instead – while 81 per cent admit to pretending they've understood when background noise gets in the way. The poll of 2,000 adults was commissioned by Samsung to mark the launch of its new Annika Bizon, from Samsung, said: 'We've all been there – trying to have a chat in a noisy bar or restaurant and ending up none the wiser. Read more on News 'People are constantly battling background noise, and it's not just annoying – it can stop you from really connecting in the moment." The findings revealed that this issue stretches beyond Gen Z, with 74 per cent of adults across all age groups struggling to hear conversations in loud places like pubs and restaurants. Nearly three-quarters (70 per cent) said it makes the whole experience frustrating, with around a third of conversations being disrupted by noise. To cope, 83 per cent regularly fall back on stock phrases to ask for repetition – though many agree it doesn't always solve the problem. Most read in The Sun Two in three believe noisy surroundings make it harder to connect emotionally during chats, while 73 per cent often feel frustrated when they miss important parts of a conversation. And 43 per cent said they'd consider recording moments on their phones – if they knew they could clear the background noise after. Annika added: 'It's no surprise that more people are looking to their tech to help cut through the chaos. 'That's exactly why we developed Audio Eraser – to help people capture clearer sound in the moments that matter.' 2 The poll of 2,000 adults was commissioned by Samsung Credit: Getty

Samsung Confirms Core Galaxy AI Tools Will Stay Free for Users
Samsung is continuing to rely heavily on Google for Gemini AI, but the company is not entirely giving up control over its AI future. Since the launch of the Galaxy S24 series in early 2024, Samsung has been investing in its own set of Galaxy AI tools, such as Live Translate for calls and messages, One UI 8's Now Briefs, Audio Eraser, Generative Edit, and others. These tools have been free to use, with Samsung earlier saying that they would be free 'until the end of 2025.' The company has not made any public changes to this stance. But there has been more clarity on Samsung's plans. In a briefing ahead of its latest foldable phones, Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung told Android Police that all Galaxy AI tools that are on the phone by default will remain free for users. This statement clears up rumors about a paywall for essential Galaxy AI tools. Users will not be charged for tools like Live Translate, Note Assist in Samsung Notes, Zoom Nightography, Audio Eraser, Browsing Assist, and Generative Wallpapers. At the same time, most of Google's Gemini-powered tools are still free on Samsung devices. New Gemini-powered tools are also free for the next six months for early buyers of the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. For now, Samsung is keeping core Galaxy AI tools free and giving users more certainty about what they can use without extra cost.

Samsung's Audio Eraser now lets you clean up audio in other apps
TL;DR One UI 8 now lets Galaxy owners access Audio Eraser outside of the Gallery app. The feature is accessible in Samsung Notes, Voice Recorder, and on recorded calls. Audio Eraser also works on any video played in the Samsung player, not just ones captured on your phone. The big day for Samsung's foldables is here. While the spotlight is on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, plenty of other news was also revealed during Galaxy Unpacked. Something that may have slipped under the radar is an interesting update to Samsung's Audio Eraser tool. If you have one of Samsung's more recent phones, like the Galaxy S25 or Galaxy Z Fold 6, then you should have Audio Eraser. This feature can usually be accessed by heading over to the Gallery app and tapping on edit. However, Samsung has now made Audio Eraser accessible outside of the Gallery app. With One UI 8, Galaxy owners can now use Audio Eraser in Samsung Notes, Voice Recorder, and on recorded calls. In addition, the tool also now works on any video played in the Samsung player. Previously, it could only be used on videos you captured on your phone. This is a pretty nice improvement to the AI-powered editing tool. It's good to see the tech giant continue to work on the feature instead of resting on its laurels. Got a tip? Talk to us! One UI 8 will take Samsung's Audio Eraser to the next level
Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung's One UI 8 will upgrade the Audio Eraser feature, allowing real-time noise removal during video playback. The feature originally debuted with the Galaxy S25 series and reached older flagships via the One UI 7 update. The new version would likely debut on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Samsung's Galaxy AI-powered Audio Eraser feature is getting a major upgrade with the upcoming One UI 8 update based on Android 16. According to a new leak, the updated tool will be capable of removing unwanted background sounds in real-time during video playback, a big leap from its earlier functionality. Ice Universe The information comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe, who shared a video from an internal build of One UI 8. The clip has now been taken down due to some copyright issue, but it showed Audio Eraser working live on a video, scrubbing out distracting sounds without the need to enter editing mode. We're hoping the tipster will share the video again so we can show you how the feature works. If the feature is indeed in the works, it would mark a key improvement over the original version, which required users to edit a clip to apply noise reduction. Audio Eraser first launched with the Galaxy S25 series as part of One UI 7 and later made its way to older Samsung flagships via software updates. The upgraded version can be expected to debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, which are rumored to be the first devices to ship with the stable version of One UI 8. While Samsung has yet to confirm the feature officially, the leak suggests the company is continuing to improve upon AI tools that work locally on-device. Got a tip? Talk to us! 5 game-changing Samsung Galaxy features you might not know about
Samsung's Galaxy phones continue to go from strength-to-strength. As each year goes by, they're infused with another batch of industry-leading functions, enticing existing Samsung users to upgrade and tempting some iPhone users to think of switching. It certainly doesn't help that Apple has gotten in the way of its own AI rollout but that's of no concern to its South Korean rival, given the five game-changing Samsung Galaxy features that we're about to take a look at. As you will see, Samsung really has been pushing ahead and in terms of the Samsung S25, turning heads with improved AI features, better battery life, and overclocked Snapdragon chips. As a result, we're about to five into smart, user-friendly features that make Galaxy devices more enjoyable — and some of the best ones might still be under your radar. The Samsung Galaxy S25 introduced an AI-powered feature called Seamless Action, assisted by Google Gemini. Seamless Action saves a heap of time and it's so easy to use. It allows you to make simple queries and have complex actions performed across certain apps — a huge leap forward from having to make a series of individual requests. As an example, you could long press the side button on your device, then input an inquiry (written or verbal) to find a location on a map and have it sent to a friend via a message. You could also issue a single command to find a location, work out how long it will take to get that and add it as an entry to your calendar. Or you could get Gemini to scan through a video, find information and present it as a note. It's frustrating to record a video on your phone and later find that wind and background chatter has ruined the audio. But with Audio Eraser, help is at hand. Available on the S25 series, you just need to open the Gallery app, select and play a video, then tap the stars icon and select Auto in order to remove unwanted background noises. You can also make manual adjustments if you select the Noise icon. Now, this isn't a new concept by any means — Google has a Magic Audio Eraser and Apple has an Audio Mix. But we have found that Samsung's Audio Eraser has outstanding sound isolation and it's better than its rivals. Now you can shoot in most conditions and still be confident that your video is going to sound great. A lot of time can be taken up leaping from one app to another, trying to catch up with the latest daily events. But with Now Brief you don't even have to unlock your device to get tailored updates and information. Instead, you can merely tap the Now Bar on the lock screen to expand a personal briefing tailored to the time of day (you can also check it from a widget or open it from the Edge Panel). Tap the Settings icon on a Now Brief and you can decide which content you wish to include, but it's great to include the weather and event reminders. You can also set up a driving routine or have personalized automated routines. It's even possible to ensure you don't miss out on using any coupons you've gathered. Using Now Brief keeps you on top of your daily life like never before. There are many occasions when you may need to jot down some details when you're on a phone call. Perhaps you're on a call to a doctor or discussing work you need doing. Or maybe you're a recruitment officer conducting an interview. With One 7 UI on the Galaxy S25, you can make use of live call transcripts of your important calls if you tap Call Assist. You can then go to a recent call and tap view recording and transcript to see your call laid out like a text message. If you select Summarize, you can get an overview of the call and even press keywords to view them in the transcript. Who knows, you may not even need to call upon other game-changing AI transcription software. Many of us view lower-resolution videos and images on our phones, whether that's social media content or past footage. But with the new AI-powered ProScaler feature for S25+ and S25 Ultra devices, you may not need to squint in order to make out what's going on within a fuzzy scene. It upscales videos and images, boosting their quality by 40% which makes them look far sharper. It can make 480p videos look like 720p and 720p appear like 1080p while boosting videos in 1080p even further. You just need to ensure the screen resolution is set to QHD+ to make use of this eye-candy game-changer. And there you go — 5 game-changing Samsung Galaxy features you might not know about. There are some other amazing features to try as well.
