Audit Bureau and EU ambassador agree on joint programme coordination
The Audit Bureau Chief Khaled Shakshak and EU Ambassador to Libya Nicola Orlando have agreed to coordinate on programmes aligned with the bureau's strategic plan, stressing the importance of safeguarding the independence of sovereign institutions. The meeting, held at the Audit Bureau headquarters on Monday, included senior department heads and discussed EU-supported projects in Libya. According to a bureau statement, both sides reviewed ongoing programmes and agreed to enhance cooperation in ways that strengthen institutional oversight and capacity-building. They also reaffirmed their commitment to good governance and to reinforcing the role and autonomy of the Audit Bureau as a key pillar of Libya's accountability framework. e-Trade Portal System (PTS) launched at Khoms Port
The Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade announced last Friday (18 July) that it launched the e-Trade Portal System (PTS) at Khoms Port, to simplify the procedures of the logistics sector and improve shipping services. The system allows ship arrival notifications and shipping data to be sent electronically to the Maritime Inspection Office, as part of a plan to digitize procedures in cooperation with the Libya Trade Network, the Ports Authority, and the Libyan Ports Company. A technical office affiliated with the network was also opened within the port to monitor the system's implementation and remove obstacles facing importers and exporters, in implementation of the regulatory regulations approved by Cabinet Resolution No. 637 of 2024. . Audit Bureau seeks UNDP support to boost governance
The Audit Bureau is looking to strengthen institutional performance and improve financial governance through cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Audit Bureau President Khaled Shakshak met with UNDP Resident Representative Sophie Kemkhadze in Tripoli on Wednesday to discuss potential areas of collaboration. According to a statement posted on social media, the meeting focused on institutional development, anti-corruption efforts, transparency, and accountability. Discussions also touched on the outcomes of the 16th General Assembly and 59th Executive Council of AFROSAI — the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions — hosted in Tripoli in December 2024. France Reaffirms Support for Libya's Transparency Efforts
France has reiterated its support for Libya's Audit Bureau in its efforts to strengthen good governance, transparency, and financial oversight across public institutions. During a meeting with Audit Bureau President Khaled Shakshak, French Ambassador to Libya Mustapha Mihraje expressed his country's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in transparency and fiscal monitoring, according to a statement published by the Bureau on Facebook. The ambassador stressed the importance of joint efforts to confront Libya's current challenges and the need to develop institutional tools that improve governance and oversight capacity. The meeting highlighted the pivotal role of the Audit Bureau in promoting accountability and responsible public financial management through its annual reports, which aim to optimize resource utilization and combat corruption. President Shakshak underscored the need for ongoing oversight to ensure fairness in public spending and to uphold integrity in state affairs.
