Delta Ups Game For 2026 Masters With Supersized Service To Augusta
AUGUSTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 13: Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland celebrates winning the 2025 Masters ... More Tournament after the playoff hole on the 18th green during the final round of the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 13, 2025 in Augusta, Georgia. (Photo by) Patrons—the official Masters nomenclature for spectators—have long jetted into Augusta for golf's ritzy Spring major, with a sizeable contingent of affluent fans flying private. Every April, hundreds of sleek jets flock into East Georgia, the Gulfstreams and Cessnas parked wing-to-wing on jammed regional tarmacs lending the scene an air show vibe. The Sunday evening exodus after the final putt drops, consistently merits media attention. The lion's share of golf fans who make the commute from far and wide to gorge on pimento cheese sandwiches and post up on Amen Corner while they take in the quest for the green jacket fly in via the hub-and-spoke network. And while Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) sees a spike in service during tournament week, many fans still fly into Atlanta or Columbia, South Carolina, then make the 2.5 hour or hour and change drive to the prestigious course. Delta Air Lines—an international partner of the Masters since 2018, has announced they are supersizing seat capacity during tournament week from 1,200 up to 3,800 on peak travel days from April 5-13, 2026. The move includes 18 daily flights into Augusta, with newly minted nonstop service from Los Angeles, Nashville, and Newark. While Delta has been steadily increasing its Masters schedule for years, 2026 will mark its largest schedule yet for golf's most iconic week. Route Playbook 'We have a lot of data on where demand is coming in from,' Amy Martin, Delta's vice president of network planning, explained. 'We look at historical and forward-looking trends to see where we need more than just connecting service. We're the number one carrier in L.A. so it's natural fit for us, we also have been building a big franchise in Nashville and Newark popped up as a strong opportunity that has been unserved in the past.' While Masters attendance has remained relatively fixed for decades, it's a perennially sold out event, Delta saw an opportunity to eliminate a common pain point: the long drive in from larger airports. 'We'll still have a lot of people flying into Atlanta,' Martin said, 'but are trying to make sure that we're making it easier for people to get to the Masters. That's good business and also really good for our customers, because it's making it easier to get them to where they want to be.' Delivering on that convenience isn't without complications. Augusta Regional's limited infrastructure and crowded tarmacs—especially with that swarm of private jets mentioned earlier—presents real logistical constraints. But Delta's network team is well-versed in planning around high-traffic events. 'We have conversations with the airport as well as our own airport customer service teams about what's going to be operationally feasible. So, we do not make these decisions in a vacuum.' Martin said. The Masters is one of the biggest of the nearly 400 special events Delta programs for annually, many of them centered around major sporting BLANKS. 'Golf has been a big one,' she noted. 'We just recently announced 40 additional flights for the NFL regular season, including Atlanta to Berlin for the Falcons vs. Colts game,' Martin added. Top Shelf Tourney Premium cabin demand tends to surge during Masters week, in line with broader trends. 'In general, we're seeing premium demand outperforming coach,' she said, with that rule of thumb holding true for both domestic and international flights. As for timing, just as the greens at Augusta National reliably run fast, flights to the tournament tend to book just as quickly. Demand typically spikes right after fans are notified they've secured tickets through the Masters lottery—a window Delta's planners track closely each year.

Rory McIlroy relationship update as golfer and wife Erica Stoll set for change
Rory McIlroy is counting on a forthcoming two-week break from the fairways to give him time to properly digest his Masters triumph earlier this year. In April, the celebrated golfer snagged his career Grand Slam at Augusta National by winning out over Justin Rose in a nail-biting sudden-death playoff. Post-Masters, the 36-year-old hasn't quite carried that wave of success into subsequent tournaments as many might have anticipated. He secured a tie for 47th at the PGA Championship and took a joint-19th place at the US Open. Despite this, McIlroy has racked up three top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour, including his recent stint tying for sixth at the Travelers Championship. Just two strokes separated him from Tommy Fleetwood, who was narrowly bested by Team USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley on the last hole. McIlroy won't be teeing off again until the Scottish Open begins on July 10, which serves as a prelude to The Open Championship at the renowned Royal Portrush just one week later, reports the Liverpool Echo McIlroy conveyed before heading back to the UK: "I think more so than anything else, it'll just be good for me mentally to take a little bit of a break and get back to my neck of the woods, get back to the UK for a little bit. "I'm excited for that, and I've alluded to the fact I probably haven't taken enough time off or time to reflect after what happened in April, so I'm excited to do a little bit of that over these next two weeks." The five-time major champion reflected post-US Open: "It's always nice to get home; I feel like I live two different lives. I'm a dad and a husband when I'm away from here, and then I'm who I am when I'm here. "It's always nice to get away and feel a bit of normality." Eagerly anticipating his return to the region, he revealed: "I'm looking forward to just getting back to Europe in general." McIlroy, alongside his wife Erica Stroll and their four-year-old daughter Poppy, have commissioned their dream residency at the Wentworth Estate, near the exclusive Surrey golf course. Anticipating the future, he concluded: "We've got a lot to look forward to, got our new house in London, play the Scottish and then obviously The Open at Portrush." McIlroy and his family are preparing for a move from Jupiter, Florida, to the newly renovated mansion in Wentworth.

Tiger Woods Looks Good as Son Charlie Kills it at Nicklaus Jr Event
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Injuries can derail even the greatest careers, and Tiger Woods knows that better than most. From multiple back surgeries to a near-fatal car crash, the 15-time major champion has battled his body for decades. His latest hurdle came in March 2025, when a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg required surgery, sidelining him from the Masters and once again casting doubt on a comeback. But while Tiger's clubs have stayed in the garage, his son Charlie has been lighting up the junior circuit. The 16-year-old won his first AJGA title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, with 15-under par at Streamsong Resort's Black Course. Now, he's competing at the Nicklaus Junior Championship in South Florida, where Tiger made a familiar appearance, supporting his son. What turned heads this time, though, was how easily Woods appeared to move. Just days before, he was seen walking across sand at the Augusta Municipal short course, currently under development as part of a partnership with Augusta National. His steady stride fueled speculation about a potential return. "Nice to see Tiger out walking and watching Charlie play" one fan commented on X. Tiger hasn't revealed a timeline, but the signs suggest his recovery is moving in the right direction. Amid the Big Cat's recovery progress, one thing that hasn't stopped him from making public appearances is Charlie Woods. ORLANDO, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 22: Charlie Woods of the United States react to a putt on the ninth green with his father Tiger Woods of the United States during the second round of the PNC Championship at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club on December 22, 2024 in Orlando, Florida. (Photo by) More Getty Images Tiger's dedication to Charlie's golf journey has been unwavering. Last December, he celebrated greenside as Charlie made a hole-in-one at the PNC Championship. "That was the thrill of a lifetime," Tiger had said at the time. Earlier this spring, he was spotted attending Charlie's matches at the BallenIsles Country Club. As for Charlie's latest outing, the 16-year-old closed with a 2-under 69 at Tequesta Country Club on Wednesday to finish level par at the Nicklaus Junior Championship. That earned him a tie for sixth out of 122 players, just four shots behind winner Jeremy Hsu. It capped off a stellar month that also saw him qualify for the U.S. Junior Amateur, set for July 21–26 at Trinity Forest in Dallas. Tiger's competitive return may remain uncertain, but his sideline presence remains powerful. And with Charlie rising fast, the Woods name still commands attention wherever it shows up on a leaderboard. More Golf: Tommy Fleetwood Drops Cheery Statement amid Travelers Collapse

Golfweek's Best 2025: Top 200 Classic Courses in the U.S., ranked
Looking to play the best old-school cool golf courses? We have you covered with Golfweek's Best 2025 list of the Top 200 Classic Courses opened before 1960 in the United States. Each year we publish many lists of course rankings, with this Top 200 Classic list among the premium offerings. The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses, and their overall ratings on a 10-point basis are averaged to produce these rankings. The top handful of courses in the world have an average rating of above 9, while many excellent layouts fall into the high-6 to the 8 range. Why do we split our rankings between Modern and Classic, with 1960 as a break point? Because they are two very different eras. As written in our rater's handbook, the Classic style of architecture was basically natural with intimate routings that enabled holes to cling to native landforms. Designers were not afraid to utilize dramatic slopes or to sculpt bunkers into artistic shapes utilizing the given features of land. Earth scraping was minimal, as opposed to Modern courses that utilize heavy machinery. Greens were built from native soil that was pushed up and shaped, giving Classic designers enormous freedom to build oddly shaped putting surfaces with more contour than typically seen in the Modern era, when green speeds became much greater. The greater abundance of buildable land in those days also gave architects tremendous creative freedom. On to the rankings: To ensure these lists are up-to-date, Golfweek's Best in recent years has altered how individual ratings are compiled into the rankings. Only ratings from rounds played in the past 10 years are included in the compilations. This helps ensure that any course in the rankings still measures up. Courses also must have a minimum of 25 votes to qualify for the Top 200 Modern or the Top 200 Classic. Other Golfweek's Best lists, such as Best Courses You Can Play or Best Private, do not require as many votes. This makes it possible that a course can show up on other Golfweek's Best lists but not on the premium Top 200 Modern and Classic lists. * Indicates new to or returning to this list. 1. Scott Van Pelt Questions Rory McIlroy's Behavior Amid Media Feud
Scott Van Pelt Questions Rory McIlroy's Behavior Amid Media Feud originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Earlier this year, PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy accomplished the biggest feat of his professional golfing career, winning the Masters Tournament in a playoff against Justin Rose, and completing the Career Grand Slam after many years of trying. Advertisement It was enough to crumple him to his knees on the 18th green at Augusta National Golf Club, with emotions taking over his body. After the feat, many speculated that McIlroy would be so freed up from the victory that this could be the "Summer of Rory," and that the multi-time major champion would go on a run over the next several months and dominate the game. However, quite the opposite has happened. McIlroy has been in some poor form over the past couple of months, both on and off the course. His golf game has not been sharp, with three straight tournaments finishing over par finishes of 47th, 19th, and a missed cut. On top of that, his interactions with golf media have turned a lot of heads, with a number of skipped post-round availabilities, and some testy responses to questions when he does decide to talk. Rory McIlroy plays his shot from the 12th tee during the first round.© Bill Streicher-Imagn Images This has all led to ESPN's Scott Van Pelt publicly questioning what in the world is going on with McIlroy, and why it seems like he's mad at everyone and everything. Advertisement 'I'm just baffled by what happened, like what's going on?' Van Pelt said on his SVP Pod with Stanford Steve. 'People are going to speculate about his life. I will not do that. The man's life is his own business. He mentioned after yesterday, like, 'I climbed my Everest, and I'm trying to come down the mountain.' And I get that. I, in my life, haven't ever, nor will I ever have a monumental accomplishment such as that — finishing off the career Grand Slam. I don't know what comes afterward. You wonder, is it like, 'I don't have anything to chase. I don't have a hill to climb.' But that doesn't, to me, explain just the fact that his resting posture seems pissed off at everyone. And I'm just baffled by it." This past week at the U.S. Open, McIlroy went as far as to admit that he was indifferent about making the cut on Friday, feeling unsure if he wanted to play two more rounds over the weekend. Over the past couple of years, McIlroy has grown to be one of the biggest names in the sport, and one of the best ambassadors as well. That has taken a turn over the past few months, though, and it's noticeable. "To me, he is such a leader of a tour, has been incredibly accountable, more than anybody," Van Pelt said. "And maybe he just reached the point where he's like, 'You know what? I'm (expletive) done. I've done this forever, and now I feel like I've reached a point where I get to do whatever I want.' Saying the quiet part out loud like that makes people go, 'Oh, really? Well, that's an interesting way to frame it.' He just seems like he's mad at everything and everybody. And that's the part I don't quite get.' Advertisement Ultimately, McIlroy gets to be mad at everyone and everything if he chooses to. The PGA Tour does not require post-round media availability for the players, so if he doesn't want to talk, then nobody is going to make him. It is an interesting study of what happens to a player after he achieves his biggest goal, though, and the fallout of being in the public eye while trying to determine what mountain to try and climb next.
