It is Pant's eighth Test hundred, and five against England and he had earlier surpassed MS Dhoni to become the wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries for India. It is a mammoth feat, no other visiting wicketkeeper has more than one Test century in England. During his first innings of 134 off 178 balls (12 fours, 6 sixes), Pant also completed 3,000 runs in 44 Tests, boasting 15 fifties and an average of nearly 44. The wicket-keeper-batter also achieved a remarkable feat in a Test innings in England by hitting eight sixes, the highest number by a visiting batter in the sport's history. He had earlier hit six sixes in the first innings, making him the second-highest Indian six-hitter in a Test innings away from home, behind Hardik Pandya's seven against Sri Lanka in 2017. Pant's milestone put him ahead of Dhoni in SENA centuries and then surpassed England's Les Ames for five away hundreds, and joined Andy Flower on 6 and is behind only Adam Gilchrist with 10 among wicketkeepers. The knock also placed Pant among India's finest overseas performers, as he surpassed 2,000 away Test runs, further proving his ability to deliver in testing conditions.
