Newcastle hit and run leaves one woman dead, another critical as driver remains on the run
A deadly hit-and-run occurred in Newcastle. A woman died, and another suffered serious injuries. The incident happened on Newcastle Road. Police had observed the suspect vehicle earlier. The accident occurred around 2:40 am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Sunday, June 22, on Newcastle Road in North Lambton. According to NSW Police , officers had earlier observed a Holden sedan driving erratically on the same road but made the decision not to pursue the vehicle due to safety after, the Holden collided with a Hyundai sedan further along the road. The impact was severe. A female passenger in the Hyundai, believed to be in her 50s, died at the scene. Authorities have yet to identify her Hyundai's driver, a 28-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to John Hunter say the driver of the Holden fled the scene before emergency services arrived. Two passengers in the back seat of the Holden, teenage girls aged 15 and 17, were also injured and taken to the hospital under police Police have established a crime scene and launched a critical incident investigation, which is standard procedure when serious incidents occur during or following police observations. Detectives from the Hunter Valley Police District are handling the ensure transparency, the investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), an independent body that monitors police are still searching for Holden's driver and have urged witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

SINGAPORE, May 29, 2025 /CNW/ - This news release is issued by Bastion Mining Pte. Ltd. (" Bastion") pursuant to the early warning requirements of Canada's National Instrument 62-104 and National Instrument 62-103 with respect to ordinary shares of Xanadu Mines Limited (the " Issuer"). Bastion announces that it has completed an arm's length private placement financing with the Issuer for A$17.2 million (the " Financing"). Pursuant to the Financing, Bastion was issued 286,829,633 ordinary shares of the Issuer (each, an " Ordinary Share") at an issuance price of A$0.06 per Ordinary Share. The Financing was completed in connection with an off-market bid publicly announced by Bastion on May 19, 2025 under Chapter 6 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) (Australia) to acquire all of the Ordinary Shares in Xanadu (the " Offer") for the purposes of assisting the Issuer with meeting its corporate and joint venture funding obligations during the Offer period.
