Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks hit wall over ‘big point of disagreement'
Australian National University Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies Research Scholar Ian Parmeter discusses the 'big point of disagreement' within an Israel-Gaza ceasefire.
'The big point of disagreement is Hamas is demanding that any ceasefire be made permanent, that they will agree to a permanent ceasefire, not to a ceasefire that will expire after 60 days,' Mr Parmeter told Sky News Australia.
'With the implication that Israel will resume the attacks on Gaza.
'The breakthrough has been because there are reports in the Israeli press that President Trump has given Hamas an assurance that there will not be a resumption of fighting at the end of the 60-day ceasefire initially.'
