Nur Humaira targets gold at 2025 SEA Games in Thailand
NATIONAL taekwondo athlete Nur Humaira Abdul Karim is setting her sights on gold in the mixed pair poomsae event at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. With the competition scheduled for late this year, she believes her partnership with Jason Loo has strengthened, boosting their medal chances. The duo recently secured gold at the Austrian Open, showcasing their improved synergy. 'I'm confident we can maintain our winning momentum because we've been consistently performing well on the international stage,' said Nur Humaira. 'Our partnership is becoming more in sync, and I believe we have the potential to win a medal at the SEA Games.' At the previous SEA Games in Cambodia, Nur Humaira claimed gold in the individual event and silver in the team category. However, this year's edition will not include individual poomsae, focusing instead on mixed pair, team, and freestyle events. To prepare, she plans to compete in upcoming tournaments, including the Korea Open Taekwondo Championships from July 15 to 20 and another event in Australia in September. 'My target for the Korea Open is to get through at least the first two rounds,' she said. 'South Korea will be our main rival, but we're focusing on ranking points and experience rather than medals.' - Bernama

Ming Hong loses in Italian Open final
PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Lim Ming Hong let slip a good chance to win his first international title after losing in the Italian Open final. On Sunday (June 29), the unseeded 23-year-old Ming Hong from the Ampang Jaya Badminton Club went down 13-21, 19-21 to second seed Ditlev Jaegar Holm of Denmark in Bolzano. He had beaten the Dane once before at the early round of the Austrian Open but he could not reproduce the same. Still it was a creditable show as it was his first final appearance in an international meet. On Saturday, he had defeated world No. 78 and top seed Daniil Dubovenko of Israel 21-17, 21-14 in the semi-finals of the Italian Open. Ming Hong also played in the mixed doubles with Stella Pan but they lost 15-21, 15-21 to French pair Kathell Desmots-Chacun in the semi-finals.

Eogene says first senior title a spark to fire him up for more
PETALING JAYA: It was relief for shuttler Eogene Ewe (pic) after ending his wait for a senior men's singles title in the Slovenian Open. Eogene fought hard to beat South Korea's Yoo Tae Bin 21-19, 12-21, 21-17 in an hour in Maribor on Sunday to clinch the International Series title.
