Panchayat proposals await nod as committee delays decision
Jaipur: The ministerial committee, headed by Panchayati Raj minister Madan Dilawar, met Friday, to discuss proposals received on panchayat delimitation but remained inconclusive. The proposal to increase the number of Zila Parishads from 33 to 41 was only discussed in the meeting. However, no solution was reached to resolve 3,300 proposals received by the department for the creation of new gram panchayats and 115 for panchayat samitis. According to an official, the committee looked at all the proposals received from the panchayats and decided to defer the settlement of all matters until the next meeting. The other ministers who attended the meeting were Avinash Gehlot, Jawahar Singh Bedam and Gajendra Singh Khimsar. The Rajasthan govt was unable to meet the June 4 deadline to prepare the final list of gram panchayats and panchayat samitis following the delimitation. An official from the state's panchayati raj department described the situation as 'tumultuous', citing frequent political intervention when attempting to follow established population norms for panchayat body formation. "For instance, proposals are being pushed for creating panchayats in areas with insufficient population and inadequate distances, and when we try to correct this, we face pressure from above," the official said.

Meetings planned to address Gurjars' seven demands
Jaipur: Following assurances from the state govt to the Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti on June 8, three different levels of meetings are scheduled in the coming weeks to address the Gujjar community's seven demands. The first meeting, scheduled for June 26, will focus on reviewing backlogs and evaluating the progress of Devnarayan Yojana. State govt officials will meet with representatives nominated by the Sangharsh Samiti for the purpose. A second meeting with the ministerial sub-committee is planned for late June to discuss crucial issues including the roster system, pending recruitments under the MBC quota and resolution of pending cases. The third and most significant meeting will involve cabinet approval for including the 5% MBC reservation in the Constitution's Ninth Schedule, followed by an appeal to the Central govt for implementation. "A separate meeting to address the pending cases is likely to be decided during the meeting of the ministerial sub-committee," said a source. Key demands from the Samiti include prioritising the settlement of police cases related to the Gujjar quota agitation as per 2023 procedures. The govt has also agreed to review compassionate appointment cases, particularly for the family of late Roop Narayan Gurjar, who died during the agitation. Further, the govt has committed to quarterly meetings of the ministerial committee and monthly reviews of the Devnarayan Yojana's progress.

ICSI inducts 380 new members, starts fee waivers
