£8 hydrating body oil is the ‘best repellant' for insects and mosquito bites
If you're looking for an instantly effective way to stop insect and mosquito bites, Avon's Skin So Soft is the 'best repellant' that works immediately and keeps your skin hydrated We might look forward to the warm sunny weather every year, but one thing we're less excited about returning is the insects that come with it. Every summer it becomes a minefield of avoiding being bitten from horse flies, midges and mosquitoes, and this only gets worse when you're travelling somewhere hot and exotic. Although there's plenty of insect repellent sprays on the market, not only do they not always work effectively, but they also often have a harsh, chemical smell that's less than appealing. However, it turns out there's one beauty product that's notorious for stopping insect bites from happening – and it's less than £8 on Amazon. Yes, it turns out that Avon's Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray, which you can pick up for £7.93, is not only great at keeping your skin soft and hydrated – it also doubles as a super effective bug spray, too. In fact it's supposedly so good at keeping insects from biting you, that the SAS are said to use it, especially whilst in the jungle. Whilst this has never been officially confirmed, anecdotal stories suggest they rely on it to keep them from getting bitten whilst in the tropical climates. However plenty of other reviewers also confirm that it works well for preventing insect bites. One Amazon shopper called it the 'Best repellent', whilst another said: 'No longer bitten to pieces! Amazing!' One happy customer wrote: 'Having suffered from some quite large mosquito bites and having tried lots of different repellants (which mostly smell awful), a friend recommended the Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Body Spray and having read all of the reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. The product arrived very quickly and was well packaged and since I have been using it every day, I haven't suffered with anymore mosquito bites. In addition to this, my skin is soft and the smell of the product is fresh and light and the spray is non greasy so it's quick to use. I know that this isn't advertised as a mosquito repellant, but the ingredients obviously keep the mosquitos at bay.I will definitely be ordering a further supply.' It's worth noting that whilst it does have the added bonus of being a mosquito repellent for many users, the Avon Skin So Soft is not touted as being an insect repellent. It is however also excellent for keeping your skin soft and hydrated, with the dry oil finish meaning you can apply it without leaving a greasy sheen on your skin. Others who had less success with it said: 'Nice enough as a body moisturiser, but it didn't work for me as a gnat/midge/mosquito repellent. However, it was recommended to me by someone for whom it does work, and I really do attract the nasty biting little beasties, so please don't be put off by my own experience. It certainly feels lovely on the skin – or rather the skin feels lovely with this product applied to it.' And another agreed: 'If you are buying this as an anti insect bite product then I can tell you I have been away camping for the weekend and have 15 bites, probably from horseflies. However the product smells amazing and it is great for the skin without being greasy.' If you are looking for something specifically designed to repel insects whilst also smelling great, this Mrs White's Unstung Hero Mosquito Repellent (£20) checks all the boxes. Created with a refreshing and pleasant smell, it still helps to deter any unwanted critters from biting you, giving you the best of both worlds. Another that has great reviews is Neal's Yard Remedies Citronella Formula, which is £14 for a 100ml bottle. The citronella scent is said to be great at keeping flies and insects away, without having a nasty chemical smell. 29 Things I Found On TikTok That Are Actually Really Cool
A pack of twistable crayons that people have described as a crayon-oil pastel hybrid. They glide like silk and help you create decadent, vibrant masterpieces. But the real selling point? The adorable bear-shaped caps! A guest check sticker you can customize by writing your favorite meal in permanent marker. If your tastes ever change, you can erase the marker with rubbing alcohol and start over. Time to tell the world how much you love butter chicken with a mango lassi! Laneige's Neo Blurring Powder, a low-maintenance option for makeup minimalists who want a matte, yet still radiant, complexion — essentially Photoshop's blurring tool, but IRL. It absorbs oil and blurs pores, leaving your face super glowy for just $25, which is way less than an Adobe subscription. A billiards CATS! Let your little pool shark knock felt balls into the pockets, bat with the feather-tipped pool cues, and scratch the baize. This sort of behavior would normally get one kicked out of the pool hall, but luckily, your cat has pretty privilege. Avon Skin So Soft bath oil, which, yes, moisturizes skin with jojoba oil after a shower, but also has a secret second use: One TikToker explained she uses it to avoid bug bites, and the comments confirm it's A Thing! Possibly the move if you're not planning on wearing actual bug spray, but still wanna have some protection from mosquitoes. An intriguing foaming drain cleaner for anyone who misses playing with shaving cream as a kid. Just press the can onto your drain, and the deodorizing foam will force dirt and clogs out of your pipes. Leave your gross dessert-like concoction for about an hour and then rinse it away. Who knew cleaning sinks, bathtubs, and floor drains could A Nooni tinted appleberry lip oil if you're sick of lippies that leave your pout feeling sticky, dry, or messy. The apple seed and raspberry extract-infused oil offers long-lasting hydration and a touch of color without you having to stress about it transferring or smudging. A viral "Soft" perfume rollerball for anyone who wants people to think of them and think "yum." Reviewers compare this ~$5 fragrance to caramel, lemon cupcakes, warm vanilla scones, cotton candy, and this $65 bottle of Pink Sugar! An airtight Deli ProKeeper people on FridgeTok (yes, real thing) are raving about. It offers a sleek-looking place for your cold cuts and cheese, keeping it fresh for longer so you can actually eat all of it. If you've ever lamented seeing condensation-soaked ham in your deli drawer, this one is for you. Anua heartleaf pore-clearing cleansing oil, a viral sensation proving that seeing is believing: Reviewers say they could actually watch the gunk leaving their skin. It dissolves makeup, attacks blackheads, and works to remove excess sebum without stripping away natural oils or drying out your skin. A reusable plug-in fly trap with a built-in light that'll work like a siren song, luring hapless flying insects to their demise. It calls out to fruit flies and gnats up to 400 feet away so you can finally reclaim your home WITHOUT having to look at a gross fly trap roll. An ultra-fine continuous water mister when you just wanna spritz your hair or face, not completely drench it. It's also great for giving your houseplants a little pick-me-up! A leakproof, portable dog water bottle with a mini dish so your pup can stay hydrated on long walks or car rides. This is way more efficient than those collapsible dishes (speaking from experience). Mise En Scene Perfect Serum, a K-beauty favorite that promises intense hydration and heat protection up to 450 degrees. With the help of a blend of oils (Moroccan argan, olive, jojoba, coconut, etc), it can help repair damaged hair and reduce frizz, even in hot, humid weather. It's so effective, reviewers compare it to the $46 Gisou version. The iconic, much-loved Balmuda toaster that is known for cooking the perfect piece of toast. This spendy Japanese gadget uses steam, which crisps the outside while keeping moisture locked inside. A tube of Grip Clean, a TikTok- and Shark Tank-famous product that'll cut through grease, oil, ink, odors, and more — without relying on harsh artificial ingredients. It's made with ingredients like coconut and olive oils, so even those with sensitive skin and suffering from dry, cracked, or irritated hands can use it regularly. A shower lamp I've seen make many an appearance in various TikToker's bathrooms. The wireless, water-resistant gadget adds a little sultry ambiance to your shower. It may even conjure up some truly inspired shower thoughts. A set of dermaplaning razors that will make quick work of fuzz, stray hairs, and eyebrows in need of a touch-up. They're designed with micro-guards, which means you don't have to worry about nicking yourself, even if you don't have the steadiest hand. Now, you can extend the time between threading appointments — or skip them altogether. A game secretly disguised as a painting! Open it up to reveal a beautiful card game. You play as a painter competing in an art competition — collect art cards and layer three to create a unique painting. Olay Super Serum Body Wash — the body wash version of their viral, super effective facial Super Serum. It's packed with niacinamide, shea butter, and collagen peptides to make your skin feel next-level nourished. A non-aerosol dry shampoo with a little pouf you can pat on your scalp to release a grease-absorbing powder with root-boosting black ginseng and biotin. Now you can go an extra day between washes and try not to remember those days you suffered from greasy, weighed-down hair. Brunettes rejoice: The powder comes in a bunch of shades. A clever 2-in-1 knife and cutting board for when you want to quickly cut like, one thing. The scissor-like device offers a built-in surface for your food to rest on, so you can slice things directly over a bowl and *without* having to wash a cutting board. Slice scallions over your salad, snip up some steak for your sandwich, or just cut a single lemon for squeezing. An SPF 50 Airy Sunstick Smoothing Bar that works like a giant lip balm for your face. It's non-sticky, glides on clear, works nicely as a primer, and is so easy to apply (check out the curved shape), you may actually remember to reapply for once. All-in-one decor paint for an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition-worthy transformation. The chalk-like paint comes with a built-in primer to help it cling to most surfaces, from upholstery and wood to metal and glass. With over 50 colors to choose from, this paint can help you revitalize every room in the house. Aaand it dries in just 30 minutes! A Catrice "Instant Awake" Under Eye Brightener to expertly conceal and brighten dark circles under your eyes. Burn After Writing — a guided journal with questions and thought experiments that encourage readers to reflect, explore their feelings, and get to know themselves a little deeper. The first step to bettering yourself is knowing where to start, after all. One reviewer called this a life-changing purchase! An instant foot peeling spray that will show dead skin the door. Just spray the coconut and aloe-infused formula and rub away the layer of skin that begins to peel off. You'll feel like a snake shedding its skin, but unlike a snake, you'll have a pair of fresh, soft feet to show off. A cabana-style umbrella offering plenty of shade for your next beach trip. It comes with cloth corners you fill with sand to weigh down the umbrella, so you don't have to worry about it blowing away in the wind. Beach trips are supposed to be stress-free, after all.
