LIMBANG (July 23): Construction of the Second Sungai Limbang Bridge is progressing well and is expected to be completed by June 2026, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. He said the RM188 million project, which previously suffered significant delays under former contractors, was handed over to a new contractor in 2023 and has since shown steady progress in line with the revised schedule. 'We can now see excellent and smooth progress,' Awang Tengah told reporters during the project site visit on Monday, adding that the new contractor had assured that they would complete the project on schedule. Describing the bridge as a vital infrastructure development, Awang Tengah said it will provide an additional route connecting Limbang to Brunei Darussalam, significantly enhancing the region's transport network. 'This is one of our efforts to further improve our road system,' said Awang Tengah, noting that local residents are eagerly awaiting its completion for better cross-border connectivity and as a catalyst for economic growth in areas across the river. In another development, he revealed that construction of the Limbang Integrated Administrative Complex (IAC) has reached 67 per cent completion and is on track to be fully completed by May 2026. The IAC will serve as a new landmark in Limbang, housing state government departments and agencies currently operating out of Limbang Plaza. Joining Awang Tengah during the visit were Deputy State Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; Batu Danau assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang; Limbang Resident Unus Tambi; Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Awangku Jinal Abedin Dato Pengiran Jawa; and Limbang Division Engineer Mahathir Jokeni.

Awang Tengah shoots down factional feud claims

Sarawak deputy premier Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the unfounded claims have sparked suspicion among certain quarters, painting him as someone who is 'power crazy'. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Sarawak deputy premier Awang Tengah Ali Hassan has shot down allegations of a brewing silent rivalry between those aligned with him and supporters of premier Abang Johari Openg. He dismissed the notion of a power struggle, insisting that the allegations were unfounded, The Borneo Post reported. He also disputed FMT's report which stated that the rivalry between the factions aligned with each leader had been intensifying ahead of a potential showdown that could determine the state's future direction. Awang Tengah, who is the state international trade and investment minister, also challenged the source cited in the report. 'It's nothing more than rubbish. 'I am not one to pretend. My support for Abang Johari's leadership is undivided,' he told reporters after chairing Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu's Bukit Sari branch committee meeting in Lawas last night. His dismissal of the claims comes a day after Abang Johari said the 'baseless' allegations were driven by jealousy over Sarawak's rapidly growing economy. Awang Tengah said the unfounded claims have, to some extent, sparked suspicion among certain quarters, painting him as someone who is 'power crazy'. 'I believe in what was instilled in me, which is the spirit of teamwork, loyalty to leadership and prioritising the party over any form of factionalism. 'I hold firmly to these principles,' he said. On Thursday, FMT cited a source as saying the rivalry between the factions aligned with each leader could trigger intensive political manoeuvring in the months ahead, with the next state election slated for 2026. Abang Johari commands strong support among rural voters and delegates from PBB, which he leads, according to the source. He also has the support of the state's civil service, having aggressively pursued infrastructure development, digital economy initiatives and autonomy over state revenue, which flows through the government machinery. Awang Tengah, who is a PBB deputy president, is seen by some as a charismatic leader, with the source saying that he also commands significant grassroots support and is an efficient administrator of state development projects. PBB information chief Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had dismissed talk of a power struggle, saying PBB's top two leaders were not in competition with each other.

Sarawak's achievements reflect clear vision of GPS govt, says Awang Tengah

'We will continue to ensure that rights of Sarawak are safeguarded and strengthened in line with the Federal Constitution, Sarawak Constitution, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report,' he said. Sarawak deputy premier: No truth to alleged power struggle within PBB

MIRI, July 20 — Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has dismissed a recent article alleging an internal power struggle within Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), describing it as 'baseless and lacking credibility.' 'The thought of engaging in political deceit, let alone a power struggle, has never crossed my mind. The article by FMT (Free Malaysia Today) carried no credibility whatsoever; it didn't even state its sources. It's nothing more than rubbish,' he told reporters after chairing a PBB Bukit Sari branch committee meeting at a hotel in Lawas last night. According to Awang Tengah, such unfounded claims have, to some extent, sparked suspicion among certain quarters, painting him as someone 'power-crazy'. Awang Tengah, who is PBB deputy president, said he was taught the values of loyalty and unity by former Chief Minister and Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. 'He always reminded us that the strength and interest of the party must come above all else,' he added. He said similar advice had also come from former Chief Minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, fondly known as Tok Nan, and the current Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, both of whom he regards as mentors. 'I hold firmly to these principles. I believe in what was instilled in me, which are the spirit of teamwork, loyalty to leadership and prioritising the party over any form of factionalism,' he stressed. Awang Tengah reiterated that during PBB's most recent convention, he once again declared his full support for the leadership of Abang Johari, and that his stand has never wavered. 'I am not one to pretend. My support for Premier Abang Johari's leadership is undivided,' he added. He believed that the article in question was clearly an attempt to sow discord within the party leadership. 'However, such a culture does not exist within PBB,' he said. The article published by FMT alleged that a 'quiet leadership contest' is brewing in Sarawak, claiming that factions aligned with Abang Johari and his deputy Awang Tengah are beginning to position themselves ahead of what could become a battle to shape the state's future direction. According to the portal, an anonymous source suggested that the issue of succession could lead to heightened political manoeuvring in the coming months, particularly with the next state election scheduled for 2026. — The Borneo Post

Abang Johari: ‘Jealousy' of PBB's success behind false claims of rift with Awang Tengah

KUCHING, July 19 — Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has dismissed recent attempts to create rifts within Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), calling them baseless efforts driven by envy over Sarawak's growing economic success. Speaking at the launch of the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge and the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) today, he said misleading narratives had been circulated online to suggest a falling-out between him and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. 'Recently, there were attempts to stir conflict within PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu), suggesting that Awang Tengah and I are at odds. 'These things happen when people are jealous of our success, because our economy is doing well,' he said. Abang Johari stressed that such attempts would not derail the unity within the party or Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as a whole. He also highlighted Sarawak's rising global profile in the green energy sector, particularly its leadership in hydrogen development. He said he had recently been invited to speak in Japan and will be addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos this coming January on the global economy, adding that the forum had recognised Sarawak as an emerging industrial cluster powered by renewable energy. 'Sarawak is being noticed. No other state is producing green energy like we are. With the electricity we generate, we can meet our own needs and sell the surplus to earn income. 'That income can help fund university tuition. Who benefits? The people do,' he said. Abang Johari reaffirmed his administration's commitment to unity and people-centric development. 'That is why when we are doing well, some people will try to cause division. But don't worry – as long as I'm in GPS, we will not be divided. 'We will continue to prioritise the people of Sarawak. As the late Tok Nan (Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) used to say – jangan liat aja (don't just watch),' he said. — The Borneo Post
