Tuanzebe launches legal complaint against Manchester United alleging ‘medical negligence'
Axel Tuanzebe has lodged a legal complaint against Manchester United alleging 'medical negligence', with the claim by the club's former defender relating to an injury sustained in or after July 2022. A submission entitled 'Tuanzebe v Manchester United Football Club Limited' was registered last Wednesday at the high court, with the case type described as 'Clinical Negligence – Part 7 Claim – Medical Advice'. The claim is understood to relate to an injury in his final year at the club. Tuanzebe, who joined Burnley this month on a free transfer, endured an injury-disrupted six years at United after his debut in a 4-0 FA Cup win over West Ham in January 2017, before leaving for Ipswich in the summer of 2023. The defender made only 37 United appearances, with injuries limiting his opportunities, though he also had three loans at Aston Villa and one spel at each of Napoli and Stoke. In September 2019 he became United's youngest captain since 1985 when Ole Gunnar Solskjær gave him the armband for a Carabao Cup third-round tie against Rochdale. It meant that Tuanzebe, who joined United aged eight, had captained the club at every level. When contacted by the Guardian, United declined to comment. Darren Fletcher, meanwhile, has been appointed lead coach of United's Under-18s. The Scot returned to the club in 2021, having been there as a player for 20 years, and has had roles including technical director and a coach with the first team. Jason Wilcox, United's director of football, said: 'He knows exactly what it takes to be a successful academy graduate and has played a key role in shaping the pathway for so many of our young players in recent years.' Axel Tuanzebe sues Manchester United over 'clinical negligence'
Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is taking legal action against the club over alleged negligent medical advice. A submission entitled 'Tuanzebe v Manchester United Football Club' was filed at the High Court on 9 July, with official documents showing the case type as 'Clinical Negligence - Part 7 Claim - Medical Advice'. The specific injury involved has not been identified, but reports suggest the claim relates to a period from July 2022. Tuanzebe joined Burnley on a free transfer earlier this month after the expiry of his contract at Ipswich, where he had spent two seasons. The 27-year-old DR Congo international endured an injury-plagued spell at Old Trafford, having initially joined United as an eight-year-old and progressing through the ranks. He made his senior debut as a substitute in a 4-0 FA Cup fourth-round victory over Wigan as a 19-year-old in January 2017, having been named young player of the year in 2014-15 and reserve-team player of the year in 2016-17. However, Tuanzebe, who captained the club at every level, made only 37 first-team appearances between 2017 and 2021 and, after three loan spells at Aston Villa and further stints at Napoli and Stoke, he was allowed to leave during the summer of 2023.

Axel Tuanzebe sues Man United for alleged medical negligence
Axel Tuanzebe is suing his former club Manchester United for alleged negligent medical advice received during his time at Old Trafford. Defender Tuanzebe, who left United in the summer of 2023, filed a legal claim with the High Court last week in relation to a period from July 2022 involving an injury he had at the time. It is considered a high-value claim, which is understood to be more than £1m. He suffered hip and foot injuries during his spell at Old Trafford and the now-27-year-old was sidelined through injury for 195 days in his final season there before being loaned to Stoke in January 2023 and then joining Ipswich as a free agent in September 2023. At the time, a statement on United's official website about his exit read: 'His departure is an emotional one for the player and many at the club who have known and helped nurture him over the years. A fine character, he leaves United universally respected as a credit to himself and his family. 'Everyone at the club would like to extend our best wishes to Axel as he embarks upon the next chapter of his career. We would also like to thank him for always representing Manchester United with class and dignity.' After two years with the Tractor Boys, where he battled more injuries but made more than 40 appearances as first-choice right-back, he joined Burnley earlier this month after their recent promotion from the Championship. Tuanzebe joined United's academy at the age of eight and captained them at every level before making his senior debut in January 2017. However, he made just 37 appearances for the first team in the following six years. He had multiple spells on loan with Aston Villa and Napoli, while his final appearance for the Red Devils came in the 2021 Europa League final loss to Villarreal, where he scored in the shootout during an 11-10 defeat on penalties. Having represented England Under-21s, he now plays for DR Congo at senior international level – winning three caps since his 2024 debut. Tuanzebe's lawyers, Simons Muirhead Burton, and Manchester United have both declined to comment on the case so far.
