Springs Rotary Anns uplift teen with life-changing wheelchair donation
Kwa-Thema – A 17-year-old girl living with a disability has been relying on an outdated wheelchair and has recently been provided a new one courtesy of the Springs Rotary Anns Club. Mbali Buthelezi who lives in Kwa-Thema was diagnosed with cryptococcal meningitis. Her mother, Ayanda Buthelezi, says that her daughter's capabilities are limited. 'She can talk a bit, her one hand does work but not so much. She does not go to school and I'm mostly responsible for bathing and feeding her,' she said. The old wheelchair had a few problems where the seat was torn, including the armrest, and the footplate was broken which led to Mbali's legs hanging uncomfortably. Her mother added that the backrest was also problematic. 'She's heavy so using the wheelchair was becoming uncomfortable because her back was usually not well-balanced,' Ayanda said. After getting the wheelchair, Mbali's mother shared how delighted her daughter was with her new chair, noting that she continually reminded her mom about it. Considering Mbali's condition and having to be pushed or carried around the house, it is a struggle for her mom to move her around their home. 'We have to move things in order to move her within the house and it is difficult because our home is not disability-friendly,' she said. Ayanda has some challenges that she faces and concerns that worry her about her daughter. 'Because I take care of her 24/7, I worry that if I die she might not have anyone else to look after her, and because she's heavy I tend to have back pains and have to ask my other daughter to assist me,' she said. Durban July red carpet: RHOD stars show off high-fashion looks
The stars of the Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) showed up and showed off at the 2025 Durban July. The popular Showmax reality series has wrapped up season five with an exciting and eventful reunion. This year, the theme of the Durban July was 'Marvels of Mzansi'. For many, this was interpreted as things that represent South Africa, from animals and flowers to landmarks and icons. A fashion directive from the event read, 'With majestic mountains and magnificent views, these natural wonders can be your muse.' On Saturday, 5 July, thousands of revellers descended on the Greyville Racecourse for the Hollywoodbets Durban July. Joining them were a number of Real Housewives from the city. While the three ladies behind much of the drama – Nonku Williams, Londie London, and Minnie Ntuli were MIA again – others put their best fashion foot forward. Sorisha Naidoo The reality TV show veteran channeled a Xhosa queen in an ensemble featuring woven straw and beaded bodice. Jojo Robinson The flamboyant RHOD star wore a lace and leopard print gown, showing off much of her tattooed body. Ayanda and Andile Season five newcomers Ayanda and Andile wore gold gowns, which, sadly, was not a hit if public commentary was anything to go by. RHOD's twins Ayanda and Andile arrive at the Durban July. ALSO READ: 'I'm proud of how I handled my marriage' – Enhle Mbali on life with Black Coffee Enhle on playing Ayanda Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Enhle said portraying Ayanda tested her deeply as an actress. 'I was tested spiritually, mentally and physically. My character was just dark, yena nje. And I needed cleansing through prayer every time I got home to separate me from her,' she wrote. She recalled a particularly intense scene involving a ritual initiation, saying the atmosphere on set left her feeling deeply unsettled. 'The scene was my character being initiated into the dark world… On this day, the set designers had done a great job — too good of a job. Red candles were lit, and sage was burning. With every single take, my spirit felt a heaviness. It just didn't feel okay in that environment. 'I've never felt so uncomfortable, but as a thespian, I had to deliver. So I did. Through every line and action, I prayed so hard — at times even forgetting my lines. But thank God I've been in the industry for this long and understand that if you relax, everything comes to you,' she added. Enhle has portrayed diverse characters over the years, including Liza Sterling in Happy Family, Azania in Broken Vows, and Precious Ledwaba in Tshisa. She has also been featured in popular shows such as Isibaya, Rockville, The Queenstown Kings, Blood Psalms, Soul City, iNkaba, and 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls.
