Now, digital prescriptions at Lucknow's urban PHCs

Jun 28, 2025 05:06 AM IST Understanding names of medicines on prescriptions from doctors at 48 government urban primary health centres (UPHCs) in Lucknow will no longer be a trouble as a digital format has been introduced by the health department in the state capital. Lucknow's chief medical officer Dr NB Singh got the facility introduced. (For Representation) 'The prescription will be linked with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID of the patient and the digital slip can be printed too, where names of medicines will be visibly clear,' said Lucknow's chief medical officer Dr NB Singh who got the facility introduced. At times, it was troublesome for chemists and patients alike to read handwritten prescriptions. The initiative will not only make it easier for patients to access medicines but will also ensure that their medical records are safely stored. The facility will soon be extended to the remaining 6 UPHCs. Additionally, 108 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) in urban areas will also adopt this facility. This in particular will be beneficial if the patient needs their medical record in future for treatment. Dr Singh said the digital prescriptions will be received in printed form and hence eliminating the need to decipher handwritten notes. He said these prescriptions will be stored in patients' ABHA IDs, allowing doctors to access their medical history. Moreover, the patients will no longer need to worry about losing their prescription papers.

Digital prescription facility launched at 48 urban PHCs

Lucknow: Reading the prescriptions of doctors will now become easier for patients as a digital prescription facility was launched at 48 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) in the district on Friday. The system will ensure that details of medication are printed clearly and directly linked to each patient's Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, securing their health records digitally. Chief medical officer Dr NB Singh said, "Out of 54 UPHCs in Lucknow, 48 have already started offering this facility. This will not only help patients easily understand the medicines prescribed to them but will also keep their records safe and accessible." He said that patients and even pharmacists often face difficulty in reading handwritten prescriptions. "Digital system eliminates this issue by providing printed prescriptions. Soon, the remaining 6 UPHCs will also implement this service," he said. Linking prescriptions with ABHA ID will help doctors view past medication records digitally in case a patient forgets or loses prescription slip.

CM warns hospitals: Be heatwave ready or face action for lapses

Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Friday directed the medical and health departments to be fully prepared to deal with heatwave-related emergencies. Speaking at a high-level review meeting at his residence, Sharma emphasised that public welfare during extreme weather conditions must be prioritised. "The medical department must be fully prepared to deal with heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses . Every hospital and health centre should be in top condition, and if any lapses are found, strict action will be taken against the responsible officials." Addressing the risk posed by heatwaves, the CM instructed health officials to stock up on essential medicines and ensure functional equipment in all govt hospitals. "There should be no shortage of medicines or medical equipment at any hospital. All arrangements should be in place to treat patients affected by heat-related conditions," he said. "Our focus is to ensure that the public faces no inconvenience during this summer," he added. The CM stressed the importance of digital health documentation. Delhi sets up State Health Agency to implement Ayushman Bharat scheme across city hospitals

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has established a dedicated State Health Agency (SHA) within the Delhi Secretariat to oversee the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme across city hospitals. To operationalise the agency, the health department has diverted 28 medical professionals, including doctors and other staff, from various facilities such as the Dengue Control Centre, district health units, and other government hospitals to the SHA which will be responsible for ensuring effective rollout and monitoring of services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the capital. 'The officials will be responsible for facilitation between the empanelled healthcare providers (EHCP) and the National Health Authority. Their tasks include verification and processing claims made by the hospitals for serving patients under the Ayushman Bharat scheme,'a health department official said. Additionally, a grievance management cell would also be institutionalised under the health panel which will be managed by the diverted officials, the official added. As per the established mechanism, claims are raised using a centralised online portal within 24 hours of patient discharge, submitting relevant documents and clinical notes. The SHA then approves and processes the claim, with payments made to the EHCP within 15 days of authentication. Meanwhile, as part of this initiative, the government has issued strict directions to all hospitals under its jurisdiction to begin generating Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs for every patient visiting Outpatient Departments (OPDs), effective May 1. The ABHA ID is a unique identifier that will allow patients to access digital health services and streamline their medical records under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Additionally, Heads of Institutions have been instructed to compile a Health Professional Registry comprising detailed digital profiles of all doctors and nursing officers employed at their respective hospitals or medical colleges. The deadline for this task has been set for May 11, with a clear directive for strict compliance. Officials said the move is aimed at strengthening digital health service delivery in Delhi and ensuring that the capital hospitals are fully integrated into the nationwide digital healthcare ecosystem.
