Kendrick Lamar's ‘Peekaboo' Is Record-Tying Fourth ‘GNX' No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay Chart

Kendrick Lamar writes another winning chapter to his GNX era as the album becomes only the third project with four No. 1 hits on Billboard's Rhythmic Airplay chart. The set finds its fourth leader on the chart dated May 31, as 'Peekaboo,' featuring AzChike, jumps from No. 4. With the quartet, GNX ties Doja Cat's Planet Her and SZA's SOS (inclusive of its standard and deluxe LANA editions) for the most champs in the chart's 32-year history. 'Peekaboo,' released and promoted through pgLang/Interscope/ICLG, ascends as the most-played song on U.S. panel-contributing rhythmic radio stations in the tracking week of May 16-22, according to Luminate, improving 19% in plays at the format compared with the prior week. Thanks to the surge, 'Peekaboo' wins the Greatest Gainer award, given each week to the song with the largest increase in play count. Kendrick Lamar Blocks Himself From A New No. 1 Hit

Kendrick Lamar and SZA's 'Luther' holds No. 1 on Rap Airplay chart as 'Peekaboo' with AzChike hits ... More No. 2 — which means the rapper blocks himself from a new champion. NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - FEBRUARY 09: Kendrick Lamar performs onstage during Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show at Caesars Superdome on February 09, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by) As Kendrick Lamar's gargantuan hit "Luther," featuring SZA, begins to decline at pop radio, it's holding steady on rap-focused airwaves in the United States. The two superstars continue to lead Billboard's Rap Airplay chart, which ranks the most successful tracks at radio stations that focus on that one genre. While another turn at No. 1 is certainly good news for both, the man out in front may soon want to step aside to allow another winner to soar. This week, Lamar blocks himself from scoring another No. 1 on the Rap Airplay chart. As "Luther" rules, "Peekaboo" — his collaboration with AzChike — climbs again. The tune swaps spots with Drake's "Nokia" and reaches a new high of No. 2. "Peekaboo" could become another champion for Lamar on the Rap Airplay list – and the first for AzChike in the coming weeks – but first, "Luther" will have to decline enough in popularity. Lamar has already scored eight No. 1s on the Rap Airplay chart — exactly half of the 16 tracks he's pushed into the top 10. Now that it's reached the runner-up spot, "Peekaboo" joins "Loyalty" (featuring Rihanna) and "Poetic Justice" (with his now-rival Drake) as his only tunes to stall at No. 2. While he doesn't manage to score a new champion this frame, Lamar's "Luther" is enjoying a standout frame on the Rap Airplay chart. The track has now led the tally for 10 weeks, and it's just his third cut to rule for a double-digit frame. "Not Like Us" remains in the lead with 17 weeks at No. 1, followed by "Humble" with an even dozen. In addition to appearing at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Rap Airplay chart, Lamar claims another pair of top 10 smashes on the competitive ranking. "Squabble Up" holds at No. 4 after climbing to a peak of No. 3. "TV Off" — yet another track taken from his latest album GNX, which features Lefty Gunplay — dips to No. 6 after once dominating.

DJ Akademiks Clowns Ab-Soul For Being Legally Blind In Response To Diss Track

Akademiks has responded to Ab-Soul threatening to 'slap' him, poking fun at the rapper for being legally blind. On Tuesday (May 27), Ab-Soul reignited the lyrical flames on Instagram, jumping into the ongoing rap war between Joey Bada$$ and a host of West Coast emcees with a scathing new track. Known for his introspective bars and fierce loyalty to his peers, the Carson, Calif. rapper used the moment to stand tall for his Black Hippy collaborator Kendrick Lamar—and to issue a personal threat to media personality DJ Akademiks. 'Imma slap Akademiks when I see him,' Ab-Soul raps on the fiery record, which targets Joey Bada$$ and serves as a passionate defense of the West Coast's lyrical legacy. The bar didn't go unnoticed. Akademiks, never one to back down from controversy, swiftly clapped back on social media with a provocative tweet that many perceived as both dismissive and disrespectful. 'Sounds amazing. Just remind that ni**a they won't throw a funeral for him like Nipsey. keep rapping lil ni**a we ain't see u slap nothing yet,' he wrote, comparing Ab-Soul's cultural impact to that of the late Nipsey Hussle. But he didn't stop there. In a subsequent livestream, Akademiks took his criticism further by mocking Ab-Soul's well-documented visual impairment. 'Usually when ni**as attack me they go fat jokes first. I'm like he don't even go fat jokes. This a new angle,' he said. 'Come to find out this bi**h a** ni**a can't even see. He don't know what I look like. In his f**king brain, I'm a stick figure.' Ab-Soul, who has openly spoken about being legally blind due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome, has never shied away from weaving his condition into his music, using it as a lens for both vulnerability and strength. Akademiks' comments, however, sparked a mix of backlash and laughter online, with some fans and artists calling his statements unnecessarily cruel, while others found humor in the live-streamer's remarks. The track that further fuels the feud between Ab-Soul and Akademiks is part of a larger rap war sparked by Joey Bada$$, who recently launched lyrical attacks on several California-based artists including Ray Vaughn, Daylyt, AzChike, Reason, and others. The battle has fueled a new wave of regional tension and pride, with West Coast voices like Ab-Soul stepping up to defend their turf—bar for bar. Listen to Ab-Soul's new song below. Kendrick Lamar Is Headed For An Even Greater Hot 100 Domination

Kendrick Lamar continues to run the Hot 100, and he may do so for several more weeks, judging by how well his latest ruler is performing. The rapper's current hits – that's hits, plural – remain some of the most popular songs in the country, and next week, his presence on the tally may improve. Thanks to new collaborations with another powerhouse in hip-hop, Lamar might soon control more than 10% of the hugely competitive ranking once again. For the fourth consecutive week, Lamar and SZA's 'Luther' owns the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100. The smash now stands as the rapper's longest-running leader on the chart, surpassing his previous bests. Lamar isn't just topping the Hot 100 this week — he also claims multiple additional top 10 hits. 'Not Like Us' is steady at No. 3, remaining one of the biggest songs in the country nearly a year after its release. Elsewhere in the top 10, 'TV Off' with Lefty Gunplay slips slightly to No. 5. It may be on the decline, but it's performing spectacularly well on a number of other Billboard tallies, and it's unlikely to vanish anytime soon. Beyond the top 10, Lamar has a handful of additional hits on the Hot 100. 'Squabble Up' remains in the top 20 at No. 16. His second collaboration with SZA, '30 For 30,' dips to No. 20 but continues to rise on radio. Further down on the list, 'All The Stars' is still present at No. 33, while 'Peekaboo' with AzChike hangs on at No. 55. Lamar is already one of the biggest names on the Hot 100 right now, but next week, his control over the chart could expand. Playboi Carti just released his new album Music on Friday (March 14), and it's headed for a huge debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. If streaming activity is as massive as expected, all 30 songs on the project could hit the Hot 100, making it one of the biggest album debuts in recent history. Lamar is featured on two tracks from Music, which gives him an excellent chance to extend his winning streak. Lamar appears on Music tracks 'Back Door' with Jhené Aiko (stylized as 'Back D00r') and 'Good Credit.' Carti's latest full-length is projected to dominate streaming platforms, these collaborations may turn into major smashes. These collaborations could easily become new top 40 hits — and even challenge for a spot inside the top 10. Lamar isn't the only major name helping to make Music a blockbuster. Carti's new set boasts contributions from some of the biggest stars in hip-hop, including Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, and Future, all of whom are likely headed for new Hot 100 smashes – with some about to earn several new wins.

Watch Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music

One of the coolest technological advancements that happened for Super Bowl LIX, was the broadcast being available with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. After 4K and HDR was added in recent years to improve the visual presentation and take advantage of newer TV technology (even if it is, in reality, a 1080p signal being upscaled with professional-grade equipment), the inclusion of spatial audio steps up the auditory immersiveness for those with a Dolby soundbar or discrete Dolby-capable speaker setup. Hopefully this signals a future where more live TV includes spatial audio presentations. While getting the entire Super Bowl broadcast with Dolby Vision and Atmos is a great step forward, it was only available for Comcast subscribers that had the proper equipment. But Apple Music has made the full 13:21-long Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show available on the Music app in spatial audio (which makes sense considering the Halftime Show was officially the Super Bowl LIX Apple Music Haltime Show). The Atmos mix isn't groundbreaking in its use of sonic placement, but when the camera moves as much as it did during the performance, it's of utmost importance to keep the performers front and center aurally so there's a central focus. The mix certainly succeeds when it comes to that. With Kendrick Lamar and SZA's vocals clearly in font, the instrumentation could expand primarily out to the sides (at times it spreads behind the listener), while audience sounds filled out behind and above. There was a moment 11:47 in when Kendrick Lamar is surrounded by his dancers as they start marching, and the you can hear it coming from all around you. It was an effective use of the sound mix. Apple Music includes a play list of the full Halftime Show set — squabble up, HUMBLE., DNA., euphoria, man at the garden, peekaboo (feat. AzChike), luther, All The Stars, Not Like Us, and tv off (feat. Lefty Gunplay) — all available to stream in Dolby Atmos with head tracking (if using compatible headphones or earbuds). In addition, there's the official full 30-minute interview with Kendrick Lamar, Ebro Darden, and Nadeska from before the performance.
