DYFI decries pathetic condition of Pumpwell-Bendorewell Road
Cadres of the DYFI city committee held a demonstration, demanding the immediate restoration of the battered stretch of the Pumpwell-Bendorewell Main Road at the Karavali (Kankanady) Junction, here on Monday.
DYFI Dakshina Kannada district committee president B.K. Imtiyaz said that while the government was spending crores of rupees on Smart City projects, it had completely neglected the gateway to the city itself by leaving the main road in a pitiful condition.
Stating that the main road has become non-motorable, thereby inconveniencing thousands of road users, Mr. Imtiyaz regretted that accidents were happening on a daily basis, causing injuries and deaths to road users. Authorities concerned should initiate stern action against Mangaluru City Corporation officials involved in their apathy, he demanded.
Mr. Imtiyaz also said DYFI has decided to hold a series of protests across the district demanding the restoration of battered roads. The majority of roads in the district have been in a bad condition for a long time, he said.
DYFI district associate secretary Madhuri Bolara said the crater-ridden road has been slowing down vehicular movement, thereby causing frequent traffic jams. Women travelling to and from the city to work are affected by the traffic jams, particularly when they reach home late in the evening.
CPI(M) city south secretary Yogish Jeppinamogaru, DYFI city president Jagadish Narayan Bajal and others were present.
