Maura Higgins' stunning bounce back after Danny Jones kiss scandal
Maura Higgins has not only recovered from 'that' boozy kiss at a BAFTAs afterparty earlier this year - she's riding higher than ever as a {R expert claims she's 'played a blinder' Maura Higgins had a rocky start to 2025, splitting from Pete Wicks then facing a backlash over 'that' kiss with married McFly star Danny Jones at the Brits afterparty. But not only has she weathered the storm, she's set to celebrate her biggest year yet, as OK! reports. According to PR expert Dermot McNamara, Maura's played a blinder by refusing to get caught up in the drama and, thanks to her hosting gig on Love Island USA: Aftersun, her career is just getting stronger. 'This had all the makings of a PR disaster, but Maura turned it into a non-event,' he said. 'The scandal could have derailed her, but she's back on screen, bigger than ever.' READ MORE: 'Unique and luminous' pink climbing clematis has a 25% saving in this summer sale The reality star, 34, oozed confidence as she returned to the spin-off series last week. And while she may have hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently, a source told new the negative publicity has failed to dent her reputation. 'She needed a clean slate and working in America has done that,' they said. 'In the UK, Maura was – unfairly – branded a homewrecker. It's not a good look and she didn't want it to impact her career.' Maura met Danny while appearing on I'm A Celebrity last December, while she was dating Pete. Danny, meanwhile, has been married to model Georgia Horsley – who he shares seven-year-old son Cooper with – since 2014. Maura and Danny stunned onlookers when they were caught kissing at the Brits afterparty, prompting Danny to issue a grovelling apology. But as Danny battled to save his marriage, Maura maintained a dignified silence. 'It's the golden rule of reputation management: don't add fuel to the fire,' said Dermot. 'She didn't dignify the rumours with a response, and by doing so she denied them oxygen.' The source agreed that Maura was canny in how she dealt with the furore. 'She still hasn't spoken about the kiss – she acts as if it didn't happen,' they said. 'McFly aren't as well-known in the US, so it's a weight off her shoulders when she's there.' Maura began hosting Love Island USA: Aftersun last year, but took time away to film for the US version of The Traitors. Then, last week, she made an epic return for the finale. 'Maura is hot property in America,' the source said. And she has no plans to slow down, with the source claiming that Maura is working hard to ensure the scandal with Danny becomes a distant memory. Dermot said it's incredible how the former ring girl has been juggling two huge TV shows. 'These are high-profile roles that prove networks and brands still want her front and centre. Maura is a magnetic TV host with a rising-star quality.' Alongside the likes of Molly-Mae Hague and Olivia Attwood, Maura is one of Love Island's biggest success stories. It's because she knows how to play the fame game, the source said, adding, 'She's come out of this debacle unscathed, while Danny still seems to be picking up the pieces.'

Gethin Jones sends poignant message to co-star Helen Skelton amid 'romance'
Gethin Jones has further fuelled speculation he's in a new romance with his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton after sending her a flirty birthday message Gethin Jones has continued to fuel romance rumours with his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton after he sent her a sweet birthday message on social media. The TV presenters have been close pals for a while, but their friendship is said to have developed into something more after they were spotted leaving the BAFTAs together back in May. Though they have yet to confirm they are in a relationship, they have been spotted hanging out off set and enjoying a spa day at a country club recently. In a further clue things are hotting up between the pair, Gethin, 47, took to his Instagram stories to publicly wish Helen happy birthday as she turned 42 on Saturday. Posting a photo of animal-loving Helen surrounded by a flock of sheep, Gethin wrote 'Pen-blwydd Hapus', which is Happy Birthday in his native Welsh. He then joked: "Having the best time hanging out with your mates," and added a kiss at the end of the message, suggesting their relationship is more than platonic. The single stars have both had their hearts broken in recent years. Gethin's engagement to Katherine Jenkins was called off in 2011 and he's had a string of short relationships since. While Helen split from ex-husband Richie Myler - who she shares three kids with - back in 2022. Helen and Leeds Rhinos rugby player Richie, 35, had been married eight years and had just welcomed their third child, Elsie, when he they split. He now has two more children with Stephanie, also 35, whose millionaire father Andrew Thirkill is president of Richie's rugby club. Shocking her followers at the time, Helen broke the upsetting news on Instagram and said: "Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children." Writing in her 2023 autobiography, In My Stride, Helen recalled her heartbreaking split and described how she hadn't seen it coming. She wrote: "I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn't see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me." Despite Richie leaving her, Helen refuses to cut him out of her life entirely for the sake of their kids. She says she always wants her children to have a father figure and know their parents were once in love and happy. It's for this reason she's decided to keep photos of her and Richie on her Instagram, instead of deleting them. She explained: "I want them to know that we loved each other, but things change and that's OK too." Welshman Gethin has not been romantically linked to anyone since he dated First Dates star Cici Coleman. In the past, he is also thought to have briefly dated former The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh. Gethin and Helen first sparked rumours of a possible romance in March when they both took part in a 24-hour roller skate challenge for Comic Relief which raised £34 million for charity. Gethin has publicly praised Helen's resilience as he gushed about how he loved spending time with her. While Helen publicly said of Gethin: "My dear @gethinjonesc... You are some man. I don't publicly say often enough how much love and respect I have for you my friend because I assume it is well known, but for the record you're a legend and I am beyond grateful to have you by my side on the rink, the sofa and beyond.' So if Helen has found love again with Gethin it would be some happy news. And it certainly looks like it's heading that way. A source told MailOnline: "Helen and Gethin have an extremely close working relationship and there's a feeling in recent months their friendship has blossomed into a deeper connection. They're both keen to keep a lid on it to avoid public scrutiny, but there's no denying their closeness both on and off screen."

JESSICA BOULTON: Only one BBC icon's been UNFAIRLY 'cancelled' this week - and it's not John Torode
Forget MasterChef's Gregg Wallace and John Torode, Jessica Boulton's ruthless rundown of the showbiz week reveals the EIGHT stories you should be talking about instead..... including the only cancelled BBC star who actually deserves our tears Jessica Boulton works on the Mirror's features desk, specialising in celebrity features and interviews. She also writes a weekly observational comedy column Jess Saying, which runs each Saturday. In addition, she oversees the entertainment pages, helps co-ordinate the Pride of Britain coverage and newsletter and guest edits The Diary. Jessica joined The Mirror's sister paper The People in 2006, and has since worked on the Sunday Mirror and Now magazine. Most likely to be found raving about The Oscars, BAFTAs, Netflix, Friends or Star Wars. Daily Mirror Columnist Jessica Boulton brings you Jess Saying, her wry, witty and slightly whimsical take on the heroes and villains, winners and losers and the outright outrageous showbiz shenanigans keeping us amused this week. better to start than.... JUSTICE FOR BBC ICON MONDAY I've always considered myself to be woke. I'm left-wing, open-minded and look good in red (in the UK, definitely not in the US). I'd fully support trigger warnings on Bambi and The Lion King. And I'd argue there should be one on Titanic (for 'scenes of disturbing door hoggery'). But this week I'm afraid to say, even I think the woke world has gone too far. For a true BBC icon has outrageously and undeservedly been cancelled. It's a sad, sad state of affairs after 30 years of excellence. But it's a sign of the times: one day everyone loves you and the persona non grata, written off as a bad fit for the Gen Zs of today (who don't watch TV anyway, so why are we pandering?). So which iconic BBC veteran has been tragically stripped of work this week? Clue: they first appeared in 1995 – and won millions of fans overnight. Yes, you've guessed it. There's only one BBC star I'm weeping for: Mr Darcy. Well, his Wet White Shirt, to be precise. For three decades, the sterling performance of Colin Firth's infamous Pride and Prejudice shirt has never been equalled. But its outstanding contribution to entertainment has now been called into question – over fears it's been objectifying men. Yup. It's true. Some buttoned-up bores at Netflix are currently debating what'll make the cut and what won't in their upcoming P&P remake. Considering Slow Horses' Jack Lowden is the new Darcy (alongside The Crown's Emma Corrin as Lizzie Bennet), I was FERVENTLY in support of the decision to completely remove the Wet White Shirt, at first. But then I realised I'd got the wrong end of the stick...I'm only teasing of course. But I do have two little points I'd like to flag to people's attention: POINT 1. What else would Netflix need to change to fit a more '2025-friendly' adaptation? Jane's famous first line definitely loses a certain something after my woke rewrite: "It is a truth universally acknowledged – but not necessarily accepted as we each have our 'own truth' – that a single man, sorry, dependent-free gender-neutral individual, in possession of a 'good fortune' (aka, a disproportionate amount of wealth thanks to genetic privilege and the unjust dominance of patriarchy), must be – although is under no obligation to be and will face no judgment if they are not – in want of a wife..... or a loving relationship that equally fulfils the needs of both you and your consenting partner/partners, but does not necessarily adhere to any societal expectations.' NAKED AMBITION TUESDAY The Primetime Emmy nominations are finally in! Adolescence was the UK's biggest contender this year – with nods including Best Actor for Stephen Graham and Best Supporting for 15-year-old Owen Cooper (I'd argue it should be reversed). Meanwhile, leading the way with a mindblowing 27 noms was Apple's truly genius Severance – a drama in which people clock off at 5pm and all memory of work from that day is completely wiped. (You can decide for yourselves if that's a good thing or not.) The most delightful Emmy news of all? Nobody Wants This, with my all-time celeb faves Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, landed nods for best comedy series, actor and actress. It was an achievement Kristen's hubby Dax Shepard immediately celebrated with this pic – of Kristen's naked yoga workout. I'm not married, so maybe I'm wrong... But should Dax really have gone so very public with his congratulations? A great big bear bare hug may have been the better choice. END OF TORODE WEDNESDAY Talking of draaaaaama and cancellations… it was all going off the boil at MasterChef this week. Just days after Gregg Wallace was given the heave-ho after vowing to fight the dozens of allegations against him, his co-star John Torode was ALSO left with egg on his face. Torode was accused of making a racial slur – said to be ' the worst word possible' – in a social setting some years ago. Torode denied it. But it left Auntie with a sour taste, so he was sent packing with a P45 as well. The poor BBC now has an entire as-yet-unreleased pre-recorded series of MasterChef with not one but TWO disgraced hosts. That's got to be tough to swallow. It also explains the reasoning behind one of its latest new hires. For even wholesome Blue Peter has had its share of scandalous stars... So when faced with finding its latest prestigious presenter, the Beeb hired someone who's been nothing but a safe pair of hands their whole career. Some might even go as far to say he's the perfect corporate puppet..... (see below). FISHING FOR INSULTS? THURSDAY Gregg and John might be in for a grilling over their alleged behaviour, but another under-fire celeb, Sacha Baron Cohen, was probably feeling a little, um, roasted this week. Yes, his actress ex-wife Isla Fisher has not had the most amicable of splits with Da Ali G and Borat actor. So some social media users took her quip on Instagram to be a tiny dig at his expense (literally). The Confessions Of A Shopaholic star wrote: 'For all the men who say 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. 'Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? 'Because women realise it's not worth buying an entire pig… just to get a little sausage.' No porkies there! I'd rather bring home the bacon alone than be stuck with a man who's the literal wurst. So, bravo, Isla! That took proper chops. FACING FACTS FRIDAY You can't make this one up. And to be fair, whatever you say about Katie Price, at least she can take the mickey out of herself. Which is why she's made a startling admission this week. Apparently Katie was travelling and got pulled over by security at passport control – because she's had so many trips under the knife, the scanners couldn't recognise her passport photo. Yes, Katie might have been accused of being two-faced in the past, but, as she'll admit herself, she's been through at least 10 of them now. On the upside, it's something to add to her CV next time she's bankrupt. After all, everyone wants their staff to multi-faceted nowadays. PICTURE OF THE WEEK She's always been a woman with Klass. So it's good to see Myleene hasn't let her newly-award MBE go to her head. Ahem. Yes, Myleene was presented the honour this week after her tireless charity work, including raising the awareness of the emotional toll of miscarriage. But it looks like the Hear'Say singer might be taking the honour a little too literally. For the morning after receiving the medal - alongside fellow honouree Leona Lewis OBE - Myleene posted this bathtime snap. Umm….It looks like you've got a little something in your hair, Myleene. To be fair, it could have been worse. She could have posted a snap of her in her tiara…. sitting on the throne. JESS A QUICKIE: Myleene's not the only one having some bathroom fun. Charlotte Crosby decided to promote her new fiction tome by sitting in a bath of books. It makes sense: she's always swimming with novel ideas.* * Sorry I couldn't help myself

No makeup is this summer's hottest trend led by Addison Rae and Pamela Anderson
As more major celebrities embrace the natural look on red carpets and in interviews, it provokes the question: is no-makeup becoming a new trend in the beauty sphere? From Lorde to Addison Rae, it appears the summer's biggest stars are promoting a more natural look. Now it begs the question: are we in for a makeup-free movement? Leading the charge is Pamela Anderson, former Baywatch bombshell, who has been making headlines for her revolutionary new look, donning a completely natural face. The 58-year-old was once known for her bouncy hair and intense smoky eyes. However, now she's sporting a much more pared-back look to major events, including the 2025 BAFTAs. In a recent interview with How To Fail podcast, she told host Elizabeth Day: '[I'm] not trying to chase youth. That's just been fed to us, to look as young as we possibly can for as long as we possibly can.' She continued: 'I have my own insecurities… But that's the challenge, to embrace those parts of yourself. Even the ones that you don't necessarily like a lot.' However, other, younger stars have also been embracing their natural looks too. Addison Rae has recently made waves for wearing what appears to be very little or no makeup on her Addison press run. In an interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg for Chicken Shop Date, the TikTok star surprised and delighted fans by wearing a barely-there makeup look. 'Yes that's so nice and refreshing to see,' one TikTok user wrote. 'It's so big for the no makeup girls,' another said. 'She's inspired me so much lately to shed the layers and start over!' a third added. 'This is the influence we need too cause the glitz and glam is nice but this is refreshing.' Lorde is another major singer who has long been known for her makeup-free looks. The 28-year-old New Zealander has made many major bare-faced appearances in the past, including her 2021 interview on The Late Show with Seth Meyers. Most recently, she has been sporting very natural looks for the promotion of her new album Virgin. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. Of course, it's not a completely new concept. In 2016, British singer Alicia Keys stopped wearing makeup for a period of time as a reclamation of her natural beauty. She went makeup free while shooting for the cover of her single In Common and, at the time, she wrote in a Lenny Letter essay that she felt 'the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt', as reported by Women's Wear Daily. At the time, Alicia's decision was enough to cause a major media stir. Now, with more big stars pushing the boundaries of beauty and Hollywood's rigid standards, it may start seeming far more normal. After all, we've become far more used to seeing celebrities posting unfiltered TikTok's in bed and sharing their makeup routines. Of course, there is also the argument that the no makeup may also serve as a clever marketing strategy. In an age when plastic surgery and filters are at an all-time high-time, authenticity – including authenticity in appearance – is gold. As seen with Addison's press run, no makeup (or even just appearing to wear no makeup), can make stars seem far more real. Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you!

Skins Stars Who Became Hugely Successful Actors
Nicholas Hoult Nicholas Hoult is the only Skins alumni who was actually pretty established before he landed the role of Tony Stonem in Seasons 1 and 2 of the show. He is, after all, the child actor who starred alongside Hugh Grant in the 2002 movie About A Boy, which was released to huge critical acclaim. Nicholas was just 11 years old at the time, and the film was nominated for Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and even an Academy Award. However, it was his performance in Skins at age 17 that really asserted Nicholas's place in mainstream consciousness, with his character Tony — a manipulative anti-hero — the main focus of Season 1. Since then, Nicholas's career has gone from strength to strength. His commercial success no doubt kicked off in 2011 when he was cast as Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road, and Hank McCoy/ Beast in the X-Men franchise. In 2013, he also garnered attention with his starring role in Warm Bodies. Nicholas worked steadily on several well-received projects over the years, but returned to the spotlight with a bang following his standout performance in the 2022 hit The Menu. And despite this huge back catalogue of incredible films, it feels as though Nicholas's career is only just starting to peak, with the star dominating the headlines at this very moment thanks to his charming press tour for the new Superman movie, where he plays villain Lex Luthor. Needless to say, 18 years later, Tony Stonem is booked and busy. Jack O'Connell Jack O'Connell also enjoyed his moment in the sun this year following his critically acclaimed performance in the Ryan Coogler hit Sinners, where he played villain Remmick. He also starred as Sir Jimmy Crystal in 28 Years Later. However, longtimers will know him for playing Cook in Seasons 3 and 4 of Skins, which he landed when he was 17 years old. Similarly to Nicholas, Jack — who comes from a working-class background and had run-ins with the police throughout his teen years — was already acting when he was cast in the show, but had not yet had his breakout role. After Skins, the star mainly focused on hugely successful independent films like Starred Up and '71, and he even won the prestigious Rising Star BAFTA in 2015. Jack has also enjoyed stage success, and starred opposite Sienna Miller in the London production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 2018. Daniel Kaluuya Interestingly, Daniel Kaluuya's Skins character wasn't even part of the main cast in Season 1 and 2, with Daniel landing the recurring role of Posh Kenneth when he was 18 years old. Despite this, he has arguably had the most success out of the show's entire cast, with the star earning an Oscar, two BAFTAs, a Golden Globe, two SAG awards, and even an Emmy nomination for his 2021 appearance on Saturday Night Live in the years since he made his Posh Kenneth debut. Daniel enjoyed steady work after his stint on Skins, but it was his appearance in an episode of Black Mirror that ended up turning his career around, with his performance catching the eye of Jordan Peele, who cast him as the lead in his hugely acclaimed 2017 movie Get Out. From then on, Daniel was unstoppable. He starred in Black Panther in 2018, Jordan Peele's sci-fi horror Nope in 2021, as well as the 2021 hit Judas and the Black Messiah, which earned him most of the aforementioned accolades. Dev Patel Dev Patel has also come a long way from his Anwar Kharral roots in Skins Seasons 1 and 2, the breakout role that he landed at just 16 years old. One year after his debut on the series, Dev was at the center of critical acclaim for his performance in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, which earned him a BAFTA nomination. His career then exploded thanks to his pivot into comedies like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, before he achieved staggering success as the leading role in the 2016 movie Lion, which saw Dev get nominated for an Academy Award, Critics' Choice Award, Golden Globe, SAG Award, and win a BAFTA. And just last year, Dev was lauded even more when he made his directorial debut with the action movie Monkey Man, which he also starred in — proving that he is pretty much unstoppable. Kaya Scodelario Kaya Scodelario is the only actor to appear in two generations of Skins, with Kaya attending the open auditions for Season 1 of the show when she was just 14 years old, which was too young for showrunners at the time. Still, she ended up catching the eye of one of the producers, and was cast in the recurring role of Tony's younger sister, Effy Stonem, for the first two seasons. She then took center stage in the second two seasons, which focused on Effy and her group of friends. And it's not just the creators of Skins that saw Kaya's spark; the show proved to be the catalyst for some serious acting success, with the star being cast as the lead character Teresa in the Maze Runner film franchise in 2013. She also had a leading role in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and starred opposite Zac Efron in the 2019 independent movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, where she played real-life serial killer Ted Bundy's wife. Since then, Kaya has been praised for her performances in some pretty big TV shows, including Guy Ritchie's 2024 Netflix series The Gentlemen, and Senna, which is a biographical drama about F1 driver Ayrton Senna. Thank goodness she had the guts to attend that Skins audition despite being underage! And some honorary mentions... Hannah Murray Hannah Murray previously admitted that she only attended the open audition for Skins at the age of 16 for the experience, and it worked out pretty well for her, as she ended up being cast as one of the fan favorites, Cassie. She starred in the first two seasons of the show, and reprised her role for the two-episode seventh season in 2013, which caught up with Cassie as an adult. And in the time inbetween, Hannah established herself in another hugely popular TV series, starring as Gilly in three seasons of the HBO hit Game of Thrones. Hannah has enjoyed steady TV, movie, and stage work since then, and in 2024, it was revealed that she is working on an autobiography for release in 2026. Joe Dempsie Joe Dempsie is another face that you might recognize from either Skins or Game of Thrones, with the actor being equally beloved in both. He was actually the oldest of the core gang when he was cast as Chris in Skins at age 20, with the actor part of the first generation of characters. Joe then played Gendry in five of the eight seasons of Game of Thrones, and appeared in three of Channel 4's This Is England miniserieses. He has been acting steadily ever since, and was most recently seen in four episodes of the Netflix series Toxic Town earlier this year. Who is your favorite Skins alum? Let me know in the comments below!
