Woman held with heroin worth Rs 57L
Silchar: In a continuing crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar police arrested a woman with heroin early on Saturday near Arunachal Railway Station on the outskirts of Silchar, reports BB Goswami. Acting on intelligence inputs, police arrested 45-year-old Pranati Das, a resident of Pratapgarh near Agartala in Tripura. During a search, officers recovered 10 soap cases hidden within her clothing, containing about 114 grams of heroin. The seizure was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and recorded on video. The estimated value of the seized drugs in the black market is around Rs 57 lakh.

Cops in Barak Valley step up war on drugs
1 2 Silchar: Law enforcement agencies in Assam's Barak Valley are ramping up efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, a growing concern in the region known as a key corridor in the narcotics trade, reports BB Goswami. Cachar additional SP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal, speaking at an awareness programme at Silchar Press Club on Thursday, said police are actively working to neutralise trafficking networks. "We are committed to intensifying surveillance, strengthening border controls, and fostering community vigilance," Pal said. The programme, organised by the PIB, Assam, under the Union ministry of information and broadcasting, marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Lapses in report on Cachar greenfield airport, says tea workers' union
Silchar: A section of Doloo tea estate workers, along with members of the Asom Mojuri Shramik Union and Forum for Social Harmony, have raised strong objections to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report prepared for the proposed Greenfield airport project at Doloo in Cachar district , reports BB Goswami. The groups termed the recent public hearing on the project "misleading" and alleged that it violated Supreme Court directives and ignored the rights and concerns of local workers. Union representatives claimed that the EIA process had several serious lapses. They alleged that the EIA failed to consider the massive environmental damage caused by the uprooting of more than 42 lakh tea bushes and thousands of shade trees. Four held in Cachar with Rs 45cr drugs
Silchar: Police seized drugs valued at approximately Rs 45 crore and arrested four individuals in Cachar district. The recovery was announced by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on 'X' handle on Monday evening, reports BB Goswami. The CM said during two successful anti-narcotics operations, Cachar police confiscated 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets valued at Rs 45 crore. The operations were reportedly carried out based on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of four suspects involved in the drug trade. While the CM highlighted the success of the operation and reaffirmed Assam's commitment to combating drug abuse, Cachar police is yet to release an official statement.
