Entering the homestretch preparing for BBQ and Barrels 2025
OWENSBORO, Ky (WEHT) – The 2025 BBQ and Barrels festival is right around the corner, and that means food is being prepped for the big weekend. Formally known as the International BBQ Festival, in 2023, the name changed to BBQ and Barrels due to the explosion of bourbon back into western Kentucky. Eyewitness News stopped by Precious Blood Catholic Church to see the prep firsthand. Almost 40 distilleries on board for bourbon tasting in BBQ and Barrels Volunteer Bruce Tucker has been doing work for BBQ and Barrels 25 years ago, and he says part of what makes it so special is the work is handed down by people. Tucker states about 40 pork butts are being smoked along with 70 gallons of burgo, smoked bologna, pork loin/chops and whole chickens. Tucker says one reason so much food gets prepped is there is ten guys that pitch in, which makes everything run like clockwork. Tucker also says that it while it is getting harder to find volunteers, it is fun for them because they were brought up in it. Tucker further says there will be five churches at the festival: Precious Blood, Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Lourdes and Immaculate Parish. The festival runs from May 9 to May 10.
