Muhyiddin discusses united opposition front with 11 party leaders, without PAS
BERSATU chairman and former premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin met with leaders of 11 non-government parties to discuss forming a cross-party coalition to adopt joint positions on issues affecting the people and nation. He met with leaders from Gerakan, Pejuang, Urimai, the Malaysian Indian People's Party, Parti Sosialis Malaysia, and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance with plans to form a united opposition front. But one element did not escape the attention of observers. There was not a single PAS representative in the meeting. The report stated that Muhyiddin aims to strengthen the opposition's check-and-balance role in and out of Parliament. 'The formation of this cross-party coalition is intended to strengthen the check-and-balance role of opposition parties both inside and outside Parliament. 'All those present gave very positive feedback on this proposal,' he said in a Facebook post. Muhyiddin plans to bring their views to the next Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council meeting. This meeting comes after calls for some in Bersatu to replace Muhyiddin with deputy leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zaidnuddin. A Bersatu division on July 7 approved a motion for party member Hamzah to take over as party president, with Muhyiddin taking on an advisory role. Port Dickson Bersatu division deputy chief Akkil Aizat Othman said the present leadership lineup has failed to address issues experienced by Malaysians. But in June, Hamzah had reportedly denied any rift within Perikatan Nasional and its lynchpin, Bersatu, saying critics were merely trying to divide the Opposition pact. In an interview with Mingguan Malaysia, Hamzah denied any move to oust Muhyiddin from leading the pact and party. — July 19, 2025 Main photo credit: Muhyiddin's Faceboo

Perikatan willing to work with any parties in Sabah except GRS
PN Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said PN is open to cooperating with any party for the upcoming Sabah state election, except GRS, which he accused of betraying PN by leaving the coalition to form its own government. 'As I have said, it is very difficult to work with GRS because they have denied us. Would you want to work with them if you were in my position? 'The name GRS was actually given by me when they first started. At that time, not only BERSATU was in the coalition, but other parties too. I named it GRS just as a name; it was not registered,' he said. Muhyiddin claimed GRS later registered itself as a political party without PN's consent, resulting in PN losing many seats. 'This is a betrayal because many seats we won were lost just like that,' he said. Despite these losses, Muhyiddin remains confident that PN still has strong support in Sabah due to its past governance during COVID-19 and promised a thorough candidate selection process for the state election. 'We will study and scrutinise each contested State Assembly (DUN) seat more closely. After the assembly is dissolved, we will conduct a thorough review, and if there are parties willing to cooperate, we will consider it. 'One fact is that people saw our sincerity in managing the country during COVID-19, the assistance we provided, and our efforts in saving many lives. They still remember my service and call me 'Abah',' he said. —July 13, 2025 Main image: Borneo Post Online

Growing pressure may force early GE16, says BERSATU leader
SPECULATION is mounting that the 16th General Election (GE16) could take place earlier than expected, amid increasing pressure on the government under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership. BERSATU Information Chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, noted that recent developments from UMNO division meetings hint at growing discomfort within the ruling coalition about its current position. 'It seems like both the Prime Minister and the government are losing patience,' he said. 'UMNO's internal discussions appear to be gearing towards election mode, which strongly suggests that GE16 may be called sooner rather than later.' Tun Faisal made these comments while officiating the Kuala Kangsar Bersatu Division's Annual Conference at Dewan Seri Merchu on Sunday. Also in attendance was Dr Hashim Bujang, the Division Chief and State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Bukit Chandan. He added that the challenges facing the administration go beyond politics, pointing to public dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living, economic difficulties, and unpopular government policies. 'We're dealing with multiple crises—economic, financial, and day-to-day hardships among the people,' he explained. 'But perhaps more worrying is the erosion of public trust in the government.' Tun Faisal warned that further delays in calling for an election could amplify public frustration. 'If elections are put off much longer, the people's anger will only grow. That's why I believe the Prime Minister may ultimately decide to call for an early election,' he said. —July 6, 2025 Main image: Yahoo News Malaysia

Faizal: Government should consult ex-PMs before expanding SST
BERSATU vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu urged the government to consult former prime ministers Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin, and Ismail Sabri Yaakob before implementing major policies like the sales and service tax (SST). He argued their experience could help find better ways to boost national revenue without burdening the people. Ahmad Faizal criticised the government for taking 'shortcuts' by imposing taxes, cutting fuel subsidies, and raising electricity tariffs without exploring wiser alternatives, saying public disappointment with SST is widespread. 'Surely there are various ways we can increase the country's revenue to provide better services to the people without burdening them again. 'If the government wants to take the SST approach, I would like to suggest that the 10th Prime Minister meet with these three great former prime ministers who have served the country extensively. 'Ask them what is the best way forward. I am confident they are willing to share their ideas and views,' he told reporters after officiating the Tambun Bersatu Division Annual Conference at the Casuarina Convention Centre on Saturday. The former Perak Menteri Besar said that nearly all traders and customers he spoke to during his market visits expressed disappointment with the SST. —July 6, 2025 Main image: Relocating To Malaysia
