Meet producer of Akshay Kumar's Rs 300 crore box office disaster, has built and sold 45 buildings in Mumbai, owns a two-acre studio in London, he is… In the unpredictable world of Bollywood, fame is always fleeting. While one picture can turn an actor into an overnight star, continuous failures at the box office can also jeopardize careers. But sometimes it's not the star but often the people behind the camera who find themselves at the centre of controversy due to multiple box office failures. One such similar tale is of Vashu Bhagnani, who has witnessed repeated disappointment with Akshay Kumar at the box office. Even though Akshay has stayed afloat, the producer Vashu Bhagnani has reportedly hit his rock bottom after back-to-back flops made under his banner. Actor Akshay Kumar and Vashu Bhagnani have witnessed a hard run in the past with several flops to their name. Recently, Akshay Kumar's latest film, Housefull 5, did decently well, but the film had a massive star cast to share the credit for the success. Before that, Kesari Chapter 2, did moderately well, as did the action movie Sky Force. But neither of them was a hit. Before this, several of his films made under Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment failed at the box office, like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), Mission Raniganj, and Bell Bottom. Vashu Bhagnani at the centre of controversy Pooja Entertainment hasn't delivered a major hit in decades. As per the reports, BMCM was made on a whopping budget of Rs. 300 crores; however, it only earned Rs. 100 crores. Many people who worked for BMCM have claimed that they haven't received money for their services yet. Another film, Ganapath, made under the same banner, also turned out to be a big flop, earning less than Rs. 20 crore. Some members claimed they hadn't been paid, and rumours swirled that Bhagnani was facing bankruptcy. Vashu Bhagnani in Real Estate and More In a recent YouTube interview, Vashu Bhagnani spoke about backlash and revealed the truth about his business ventures. 'I went to London in 2018, and I wondered what to do. So, I bought a building in Mayfair. Then, I made five or six movies there… I'm a developer. I don't believe in making money by investing your own money in projects. I make buildings like I make films… I'm the only person from Bollywood who has set up a studio in London. We have two floors with 60-foot high ceilings. It's a two-acre property, I have a VFX set-up there, I have vanity vans there.' He further added, 'I can't even speak English properly. When I was going to London, my daughter told me, 'What will you do there? You can't even speak English properly, and you won't understand what they're saying. I said, 'Let me try'. As soon as I landed, I set up a studio there. I made two buildings, and I made six films in five years. I used to make one building and one film, one building and one film. I've made 45 buildings in Mumbai so far, and they've all been sold. But I never sold the IP of my films. I still own my movies…' Addressing bankruptcy rumours, he said, 'I was very upset by those stories. Imagine that I was actually bankrupt and I'd sold off my building. If I had actually sold it off, it would've been to pay people back, right? What's wrong with that? I'm not a corporate employee, I'm doing business. If I suffer a loss, I will have to make up for it. But people spun this into a negative story. They said I've run away, that I don't have money for food, that I couldn't even afford flight tickets.' Despite the setbacks in film, Bhagnani is active in his business and his film IPs. His story is a reminder that in Bollywood, the truth is always more than what meets the eye.

Producer of Akshay Kumar's Rs 300 crore box office flop has built and sold 45 buildings in Mumbai, owns a two-acre studio in London
Actor Akshay Kumar has had a difficult run at the box office in the last few years, with around a dozen flops to his name. His latest film, Housefull 5, did decently well but the film had a massive star cast to share the credit of the success. Before that, Kesari Chapter 2, did moderately well, as did the action movie Sky Force. But neither of them was a hit. Several of his biggest recent flops, films such as Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), Mission Raniganj, and Bell Bottom, were all produced by Pooja Entertainment, the banner operated by Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky. The duo were under fire last year when many people who worked on BMCM alleged that they hadn't been paid for their services after the film flopped. Produced on a reported budget of Rs 300 crore, the movie made just around Rs 100 crore globally. The same was the case with Ganapath, starring Tiger Shroff, which made less than Rs 20 crore. In fact, the banner hasn't released a proper hit film in two decades. But the Bhagnanis don't rely completely on the movie business to earn a living. They also have a flourishing real estate and construction arm, and Vashu Bhagnani spoke about it in a recent interview. Chatting with Ronak Kotecha on YouTube, he said, 'I went to London in 2018, and I wondered what to do. So, I bought a building in Mayfair. Then, I made five or six movies there… I'm a developer. I don't believe in making money by investing your own money in projects. I make buildings like I make films… I'm the only person from Bollywood who has set up a studio in London. This actor made Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth wait for three days on set, would arrive late everyday due to..., the actor was... In late 80s and 90s, Govinda was considered one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. But as the actor garnered more and more success, stories of his lack of punctuality started making headlines. At one point, Govinda's tardiness crossed way too many boundaries, when he made Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth wait for three days on the sets of Hum . This shocking revelation was made by Vijay Patkar, who was part of Mukul Anand's film. Vijay who was an eyewitness, revealed that the entire crew and cast would arrive on time, but Govinda used to show up late, they were unable to film the desired shot. While speaking to Filmymntra Media, he shared, 'Director Mukul Anand wanted a sunrise shot with the whole family walking by. They couldn't shoot it for three days because Govinda wasn't on set. Rajinikanth, Bachchan saab were all on set. On the fourth day, the director requested him again and he came. All of them waited for him because he just wouldn't come.' Asking how the two superstars- Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, would react to Govinda's tardy behaviour, Vijay recalled that they used to stay silent, 'They are all professionals so they sat there without any complaints. They came with the philosophy that I have allotted my date and time to the producer,' he shared. Vicky also revealed that he heard Big B used to pick Govinda from his house when the two collaborated for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. 'I have heard that during Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Bachchan saab would pick Govinda from his bungalow. He would come in his car, honk outside the gate and pick him,' he said. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Govinda recalled being 'scared' of Amitabh Bachchan when they started working in BMCM, 'People were also scaring me that he always comes on time. I said I can't (come on time) because I am tied up in so many movies,' he shared. Govinda then decided to have a word with Bachchan, 'I requested him that I hope this question does not arise that I don't come on time. Big B said, 'You call me and let me know what time are you coming. I don't have a problem and it is not my concern if anyone has a problem with your timings'. After this conversation, I signed that film,' he said.

Govinda left the set to receive wife at airport, didn't return for four days; BMCM co-star Shehzad Khan recalls: ‘I've come to Mumbai'
Actor Shehzad Khan, who worked with Govinda on the film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, reflected on the star's habitual tardiness. He said that he has numerous anecdotes about Govinda, as he shared one from the sets of BMCM. He said that they were working in Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City, when Govinda asked director David Dhawan if he could go to the airport and pick up his wife. He left, and didn't return for four days. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Shehzad said, 'I have a lot of stories. We were shooting at Ramoji one day, and Chi Chi asked David Dhawan if he could go and receive his wife at the airport. The airport is a little while away from the studio, and David ji gave him permission to go, but told him to return immediately. He left, but didn't return. In the evening, David ji received a call from him saying that he was in Mumbai. He said that he'd return the following day.' He continued, 'You have to hand it to David saab. He knew how to work around these hiccups. The shoot didn't stop at all, even though Govinda wasn't there. He returned four days later.' Tales of Govinda's tardiness are well known across the film industry. Many attribute his fall from grace to his indiscipline. His own wife, Sunita, said that she agrees with David Dhawan's advice to Govinda about doing more supporting roles as he got older. His refusal to evolve with the times has also been cited as a reason for his downfall. In an earlier interview with Ronak Kotecha, BMCM producer Vashu Bhagnani recalled a story about Govinda's tardiness when they worked together on Hero No 1. He said that the entire unit of 75 people sat idle in Switzerland for three days because Govinda had not even arrived in the country, and they had been waiting for him. In an interview with Mashable India, director Anees Bazmee said that he'd be shocked if Govinda ever showed up on time. 'It isn't news or a shock to me that Govinda will come late. I will get a shock if he comes on time, and he doesn't give me those kinds of shocks. So, since I know that he will come at 12 pm for a 9 am shoot, I complete other tasks by then so that I don't waste my time. Tuning with the actor is very important,' he said. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Govinda's nephew Vinay Anand told a story about being humiliated by a producer for being late. 'When he was just starting off, one of his producers, I don't want to name him… Govinda was travelling from Virar and was late. There was another hero in the film who was from a renowned family. That producer punished Govinda by making him stand outside in the rain. That's how the producer expressed his anger. I think that hurt Govinda,' he shared. Govinda himself admitted that he wasn't a punctual person, and said in an interview with Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel, 'I never used to arrive on time on set. I was a follower of Dilip Kumar sahab. I didn't believe in being late. I used to first set my rhythms right. Jab tak mere sur taal nahi set ho jaaye, main set pe nahi pahuchta tha (Till the time my rhythms wouldn't be set, I would not go to the set).'
