Water to be released from Bhadra canal to Vani Vilas Sagar starting July 27
Shivamogga: The Visvesvaraya Jal Nigam has announced the release of water from the Bhadra Upper River Project's (BRP) main canal to Vani Vilas Sagar, starting from July 27 as per govt instructions. The water will traverse through the main canal, originating at Bhadra reservoir, and flow through various gram panchayats, including Lakkavalli, Lingadahalli, Tarikere Kasaba, Amritapura, and Ajjampur in Tarikere taluk, Chikkamagaluru district. The water will proceed via Shantipura Pump House-1, Jambhadahalli Aqueduct, Tarikere Rail Bridge, Bettatavarakere Pump House-2, and Ajjampur Tunnel to the Y-junction near Hettur village. Subsequently, it will flow through multiple villages before joining the Vedavati River canal to reach Vani Vilas Sagar in Chitradurga district. Ban on activities near the canal Public safety regulations strictly prohibit activities near the canal, including loitering around its banks and allowing people or livestock into the water. The Irrigation Act stipulates legal consequences for violations, unauthorised water extraction, and damage to irrigation infrastructure. This announcement follows a Monday meeting where district minister Madhu Bangarappa discussed water release for monsoon crops in the Bhadra reservoir's command area for 2024-25. The right bank canal and its branches will receive water for 120 days from the night of July 22, with left bank canal release dates to be announced later. The Karnataka Irrigation Act 1965 outlines penalties for those who breach crop patterns, misuse water allocation, or engage in unauthorised irrigation. Water distribution will be limited to scheduled fields and crops, based on reservoir levels. Farmers growing unauthorised crops will bear responsibility for any losses, with the water resources department assuming no liability, the minister said. R Ravichandra, member secretary of the Bhadra Project Irrigation Consultative Committee, stressed the necessity of farmers' collaboration in efficient water utilisation.

Madhya Bharat Agro share price: Shares of fertiliser and chemicals company Madhya Bharat Agro Products rose nearly 4 per cent to hit an intraday high of ₹432.95 after the company reported solid performance in the April-June quarter of the financial year 2025-26 (Q1FY26). At 2:45 PM, Madhya Bharat share price was trading 1 per cent higher at ₹422.45 compared to Thursday's close of ₹418.15. In comparison, NSE Nifty50 was trading 0.74 per cent lower at 25,167.35 levels. Last checked, the company's market capitalisation stood at ₹3,701.8 crore. The stock has surged over 112 per cent from the 52-week low of ₹197 touched on October 8, 2024. Madhya Bharat Agro Q1 FY26 results The rally in shares of the fertiliser company was backed by robust numbers in the Q1 FY26 results. The company reported a 145.52 per cent growth in the June quarter net profit to ₹28.21 crore compared to ₹11.49 crore in the year-ago period. The company reported revenue from the operation of ₹409.69 crore in Q1 FY26, up 104.49 per cent from 200.35 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. In the March 2025 quarter (Q4 FY25), the company reported revenue from operations of ₹296.78 crore and net profit of ₹142.53 crore. Madhya Bharat Agro reported total expenses of ₹368.58 crore, almost doubled from ₹183.98 crore in the year-ago period. In the previous quarter, the company's total expenses came in at ₹209.65 crore. About Madhya Bharat Agro Products Incorporated in October 1997, Madhya Bharat Agro Products is engaged in the manufacturing of fertilisers and chemicals, particularly for the agricultural sector. It operates two manufacturing plants located in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. The company specialises in the manufacture of Beneficiated Rock Phosphate (BRP), Sulphuric Acid (SA), Single Super Phosphate (SSP) and Phosphate Rich Organic Manure (Prom). It is also engaged in the production of Sulphur Bentonite and some value-added chemicals like oleum, etc. The company got listed on the National Stock Exchange in 2019.

BRP selling Manitou pontoon boat business to the family that owns Bentley Pontoons

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Christinne Muschi VALCOURT — BRP Inc. has signed a deal to sell its Manitou pontoon boat business to the Marcott family, owners of Bentley Pontoons, as part of its plan to focus on its powersports operations. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available. The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of the company's 2026 financial year. Until then, BRP says it will work with the Marcott family to ensure a smooth transition. The company launched a plan last year to sell its various marine businesses, excluding its Sea-Doo personal watercraft and related operations. BRP has already finalized the sale of its Alumacraft business and signed an agreement for the sale of its Telwater business that is still subject to certain closing conditions. --- This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 8, 2025.
