Prestige Group to build 1.5 km ‘private' flyover in Bengaluru to address traffic woes: Check route and other details
Real estate major Prestige Group has recieved municipal approval to build a 1.5-km 'private' flyover in Bengaluru, which will connect its upcoming Prestige Beta Tech Park in Bellandur to the city's Outer Ring road (ORR), according to a report by Deccan Herald, The BBMP has approved the development, which will come all along the public road and mostly next to a stormwater drain (SWD) along Kariyammana Agrahara Road, as per the report. In return, Prestige will widen the road at full cost. A spokesperson for Prestige Group declined to comment, according to the DH report. According to the report, Prestige approached the BBMP for permission twice, once in August 2022 and again November 2023. It added that permission came in April 2025, after approval from Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar. The 70-acre tech campus is expected to host more than 5,000 employees and Prestige in its proposal reportedly noted traffic congestion on the Old Airport Road (via Yemalur) and Kariyammana Agrahara Road. 'The new road will reduce travel distance to Sakra Hospital Road by 2.5 km,' BS Prahallad, Technical Director of Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure told the paper. He added that the such approvals aim to boost public-private partnership in city infrastructure. BBMP requires that the newly built flyover be open for public use. It has also allowed Prestige to claim Transferable Development Rights (TDR) certificates as compensation for the land relinquished for road-widening, provided it falls within the legal framework, the report added. As per the report, Prahallad passed the project subject to Prestige undertaking costs of the 40-foot road widening. Notably, this adds Prestige to a small group of private companies that have projects on public land. For example, the Lulu Mall constructed an underpass by taking away a portion of the public road, and Manyata Embassy Business Park also built a flyover for direct connection to the ORR's elevated road. Besides Prestige, the DH report added that Bagmane Group has also proposed a 600-metre flyover to its campus in Doddanekundi.

Tunnel road will be 120 ft below ground, says B-SMILE director
BENGALURU: The 16.68 km tunnel road between Central Silk Board and Hebbal near Esteem Mall will be built 120 ft below the ground. Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE), a special purpose vehicle created to execute big-ticket projects in the city, will start the tender process for the much-debated project in a day or two. B-SMILE Director BS Prahallad said advanced tunnel boring machines will be used for the work. The toll for the road has been fixed at Rs 19 per kilometre. But the toll could vary because of inflation and project cost. 'The work is expected to be completed within four years. But everything depends on geological factors. Homes and other structures on the surface will be safe,' he said. On groundwater supply and borewell points getting impacted due to tunnelling, he said the government has given permission for owners to dig borewells and it does not mean they have a right over it as it still belongs to the government. 'Some borewell points may be impacted,' he added. Tenders will be called in two packages and files have already been sent to the Finance Department. 'The government gave the approval on June 9 and tendering will begin in a day or two,' he said. The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 42,000 crore, which will include Rs 800 crore for acquiring land. Experts worried about tunnel road impact Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan, in his social media post, lashed out at the Congress government. He posted, 'Toll for cars on the tunnel may reach Rs 330. Autos and two-wheelers aren't allowed. Rs 7,100 cr subsidy plus Rs 10,700 cr loans, all from public funds. Congestion at exits and rising pollution are inevitable. Why fund a 16.75 km tunnel that serves no one at such a high public cost?'
