Moshe Safdie
THINK Marina Bay Sands (MBS), think Moshe Safdie. The man who designed Singapore's iconic landmark is himself an icon in the world of architecture. Now, he's lending his name to MBS Part 2, or rather IR2 – the as-yet-unnamed US$8 billion development being built next to the integrated resort. The stakes are high for the 55-storey, 570-suite luxury hotel tower. The building has to be 'substantial in its own right and have an identity that complements and, in a sense, improves on the existing icon', says the celebrated architect who was in town for the groundbreaking ceremony. Read what Safdie has to say about the impact that MBS has made on the Singapore skyline, and on his career, in an exclusive interview with BT Lifestyle this week. We also head across to Singapore's other integrated resort, Resorts World Sentosa, where another groundbreaking attraction is about to open. We give you a sneak peek of the Singapore Oceanarium – in which the former SEA Aquarium has been completely transformed into a mega marine institute that's three times the size of the original and devoted to the conservation of sea life. Dive into a world of sharks, sea horses and sea jellies in vivid colour, in our pictorial essay of these enchanting sea creatures. Finally in Dining, French cooking goes casual at The Plump Frenchman, a new bistro that serves up affordable classics in cosy surroundings. For all this and more, don't miss this week's BT Lifestyle.

Private clubs still in vogue
HAS the recent saga over members' club 1880 put you off joining one? If not, welcome to the, well, club as the exclusivity, curated programming, networking opportunities and community spirit they offer are still highly attractive to people who want to become their members. In this week's BT Lifestyle, we look at the continued appeal of such clubs and how, despite 1880's woes, it's still a profitable business to be in. So much so that existing clubs such as 67 Pall Mall and the Mandala Club are on an expansion path, with new brands contemplating making their entry into the market. In Design, we discover how robots have replaced bricklayers in housebuilding, with a peek at the first 3D printed house in Singapore. The brainchild of architect Lim Koon Park, the Bukit Timah detached property is a showcase of technology, yet at its core – a real, liveable family home. Meanwhile in Dining, two-Michelin-starred restaurant Thevar has moved to a new home in Mohamed Sultan. We get a taste of what it has to offer. Live long and well
It used to be that the challenge was to live a long life. We may have got what we wished for, except that living longer doesn't necessarily mean living well. In Singapore, life expectancy has soared to around 84 years. But, the number of years one lives in generally good health is only 74. This suggests that the last decade of life is often spent managing chronic illness and physical frailty. Can we extend our healthspan – as opposed to lifespan – beyond 74? Longevity doctors believe one absolutely can, so long as one cultivates science-backed habits and strategies that actually work. Don't miss this week's BT Lifestyle as we show you how. From testing one's biological age to hawker-meal swops, strength training to social connections, we ask the experts to recommend a step-by-step guide to living longer and better. Besides, the longer you live, the more time you have to enjoy beautiful things, such as an exquisite piece of fine jewellery. We have some of the latest gems from the biggest luxury brands to whet your appetite for some carats. And speaking of appetite, the hunger for pizza continues unabated despite the proliferation of such dough-centric eateries in town. The latest, Pizza Studio Tamaki and Vincenzo Capuano, have opened back to back, which calls for a showdown between these two Neapolitan greats. Find out how they fare against each other in our review this week. For some great reads, don't miss BT Lifestyle this week.

Male bonding in Singapore
What do men do when they get together? Throw some axes, destroy furniture, climb walls or join a choir? MALE bonding used to be simple affairs, like a round of beer or game of football. But as life gets more complicated, so do the ways in which men forge friendships and build support networks while navigating a society where the rules of masculinity are being challenged or even upended. As men find themselves under immense pressure to succeed professionally and personally in Singapore's hustle culture, their emotional well-being is stretched to the limit, say wellness counsellors. In this week's BT Lifestyle, we look at how men are turning to non-traditional approaches to let off steam, express themselves and connect with others. Meanwhile, in Design, take a look at the transformation of a narrow, old shophouse in Joo Chiat into a spacious, multi-generation home. And in the Arts, we visit a stunning new exhibition featuring the works of much loved artist Chua Mia Tee and his wife, Lee Boon Ngan, whom few know was a pioneering female artist in her own right. Finally in Dining, we get a taste of modern Indian food at the new restaurant Meh'r by Inderpal, helmed by former Masterchef winner Inderpal Singh. For all this and more, don't miss this week's BT Lifestyle.

Chasing beauty
Lasers, thermage, microneedling – you name it and there's an aesthetics clinic in town that offers it, and even more treatments that promise to restore your skin back to its youthful elasticity. But the pursuit of beauty isn't limited to the middle-aged and chronologically wrinkled. Millennials and Gen-Zers are adding to the numbers who are seeking out non-invasive procedures, and entire social trends have evolved around the pursuit of beauty, such as the highly popular Mommy Makeover. But, no pain, no gain. In the week's BT Lifestyle, read more about what treatments are trending this year and what pitfalls to look out for. And given that plastic surgeons from around the world are convening for the first time in Singapore this week for the annual International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery congress, now's a good time to do some research before you sign that consent form. In the Arts, get a head start on SG60 celebrations at the upcoming Artist Proof: Singapore At 60, which opens in July at art-logistics company Helutrans. The ambitious show features 90 works by more than 50 important Singapore artists (from Han Sai Por to Hilmi Johandi), reflecting on the journey of the country over the decades. Do also check out some of the latest watch launches, and find out how initiatives like the San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition are grooming young chef talents. And in Dining, get a taste of yakitori from a brand-new Japanese import at Firebird by Suetomi. For all this and more, don't miss this week's edition of BT Lifestyle.
