Police foil murder plot; arrest realtor, contract killer
Ludhiana: In a dramatic turn of events, Ludhiana Police on Thursday arrested the owner of Basant City Colony and a contract killer he allegedly hired to murder his former business partner over a property dispute. The accused, identified as Amit Kumar of Basant City and Simranjeet Singh Bagga of CRPF Colony, were apprehended along with three accomplices. The remaining accused—Tajinder Singh Pala, Lakha, and Kishan—are currently on the run. Police commissioner Swapan Sharma, accompanied by ADCP Amandeep Brar, revealed that the plot was uncovered after the intended victim, Prem Singh Babbar, approached authorities, fearing for his life. Babbar, a resident of Dugri, had previously been in business with Amit Kumar, but their partnership soured, leading to a bitter property dispute. Following Babbar's complaint, police formed special teams under ACP Harshpreet Singh, with CIA in-charge Kulwant Singh and SHO Avneet Kaur of Sadar police station. The accused had conducted multiple reconnaissance missions over the past 15 to 20 days to plan the attack. Amit Kumar, the alleged mastermind, has two prior FIRs under the IPC and Arms Act. Simranjeet Singh Bagga has three FIRs, including charges under the NDPS Act and Section 379B (snatching). Tajinder Singh Pala, another key conspirator, has eight FIRs against him, including charges under the NDPS Act, Gambling Act, and Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). According to the police, Amit Kumar and Bagga met while incarcerated—Amit for assault and Bagga for drug-related charges. After Amit secured bail, he paid Rs 70,000 for Bagga's release and later offered him Rs 3 lakh to carry out the murder. Bagga then roped in Pala, who involved Lakha and Kishan. Commissioner Sharma stated that the motive stemmed from an old rivalry and unresolved land disputes between Amit Kumar and Prem Singh Babbar. "The accused were planning to execute the murder within the next one or two days." Clothes as dreamy as the wedding: Decoding Prateik Smita Patil and Priya Banerjee's wedding outfits by Tarun Tahiliani
On February 14, actor couple Prateik Patil Babbar and Priya Banerjee tied the knot. Their wedding attire was designed by Tarun Tahiliani , which led to a chatter amongst fashion aficionados especially with Babbar's look. In an exclusive conversation with Wedding Times, Tarun Tahiliani shares the inspiration and design process behind the couple's wedding looks. From the outset, Priya and Prateik's vision for their wedding attire was clear: 'they wanted garments that would reflect their true selves, capturing their love in a way that felt genuine and free-spirited'. "In the modern India it's no longer enough for the bride and groom to simply look the part—they want to feel it too. The modern couple desires an ensemble that empowers them, one that reflects their individuality and allows them to celebrate their special day with comfort and ease," he says, adding, "Wedding attire shouldn't feel like a costume. It should be something that connects them to the emotions and experiences of the day, a garment that continues to grow with their personal style, just as their love will." Prateik's looks, in particular, have sparked a conversation about gender-fluid fashion, with the pre-draped dhoti reinterpreting tradition for the modern man. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Tahiliani's design approach was centered around creating a look that would reflect Babbar's personality, with a silk drape shirt, paired with a pre-stitched charmeuse dhoti, and a meticulously hand-embroidered sherwani. 'His ensemble is a narrative of modern masculinity told through the language of refined luxury and ease. The modern groom seeks freedom in self-expression, wearing what resonates with his personality,' Tahliani states, adding, "For centuries, Indian men intuitively draped fabric—whether as dhotis, lungis, or angavastrams—moving with grace and ease. The dhoti was not just ceremonial but everyday wear, offering both comfort and quiet sophistication. With the advent of Western tailoring, drapery gave way to structured silhouettes. While sharp tailoring has its place, there is undeniable beauty in fluidity—deeply rooted in our cultural memory." While Banerjee's look 'was about balance—structural elements meeting fluid grace'. 'The fishtail mermaid skirt enhanced the body's natural form while resham embroidery, crystals, sequins, pearls, and beads brought a luminous richness. Paired with a structured corset, it creates a silhouette that is strong yet feminine. The beauty of the corset lies in its timelessness; it can be worn as a separate piece, paired with chic trousers, or a skirt that helps the bride to relive the memories tied to her wedding day in a simpler outfit,' he adds. Tahiliani hopes his designs for the newlywed's wedding attire will be a testament to the power of fashion to capture the essence of a couple's love story. "The emotional resonance of these ensembles lies in their ability to transcend the occasion," Tahiliani notes. "As the years pass, I envision these garments being revisited—worn on special occasions, reinterpreted for future celebrations. They are not pieces to be locked away; they are living memories, evolving with time, much like the love story they represent,' he concludes. Talking about their wedding looks, Prateik shares, "We had a meeting for four hours, but we picked our outfits in 40 minutes. This was the first outfit that Priya picked and tried – and it worked." Priya, adds, "He wanted to wear a Bengali dhoti. So, I remember we had a meeting with TT (Tarun Tahiliani) and the first outfit he picked for Prateik was a fusion of dhoti."

Others too need alliance in UP, not just Cong: Raj Babbar
Not just the Congress but others too need an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to win the election, said former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar on Saturday. Former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar (HT File Photo) 'The alliance isn't just Congress's responsibility but others too have to be in it equally,' said Babbar. Raj Babbar came to preside over the oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed district and city unit office-bearers of the Lucknow Congress. Babbar was UP Congress president in July 2016 and was replaced by Aj Kumar Lallu in October 2019 after he resigned. 'They should be in it (alliance) if they want to defeat the opponent you are contesting elections against, and you want to be the power to defeat them,' he said without taking the name of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 'The alliance will be made on ground according to the situation (in the future) and not on the basis of the past,' he said. 'At present we are focused upon organisational strengthening (sangathan srijan) and the process is being done in the most transparent manner,' he said, adding, 'There are no faces that you can say belong to a particular group. The entire process is under a coordination committee and the aim is to unite with like-minded people who are loyal with the party and connect with old associates also in a strong manner. Sangathan Srijan will enhance credibility among workers and encourage accountability.' Commenting upon the political implications of the caste census Babbar said that it is going to change the scenario. 'Naturally. You may do anything or not but people, once they know their status via census, will raise demands. Here, the lines by Lohia are most relevant: Jiski Jitni Hissedari Uski Utni Bhagidari (share on the basis of population). 'The caste census is certainly going to change the upcoming political scenario in the state as we will get a clear picture of the Hissedari, the demand for Bhagidari will also become clear. It will impact the elections,' said Babbar. Asked about the state government's move demanding shopkeepers on the Kanwar route to display name and identity, Babbar said, 'Why is this being demanded during the Kanwar Yatra. If necessary, it should be for all times. Kanwar Yatra has been taking place for years and all respect it.' Responding to the recent language row in Maharashtra, Babbar said, 'It is the government's job to handle such issues with maturity, not provoke the people.'

Work to defeat communal, casteist forces: Babbar
Lucknow: Former chief of UP Congress and ex-MP Raj Babbar on Saturday urged newly included party office-bearers to commit themselves to the party and work with full dedication to defeat communal and casteist forces. He urged them to maintain social harmony and brotherhood, protect the Constitution from anti-constitutional forces, and work according to the Congress ideology and Gandhian principles. "This is the only way to deliver social justice to the oppressed, exploited and deprived sections of society," he said, speaking at the oath-taking ceremony organised as part of the ongoing organisational creation campaign. He also congratulated them on their new roles. Stating that hatred was being spread under BJP rule in an organised way, Babbar said: "In such times, it is the duty of every Congress worker to push Gandhian principles, which are deeply embedded in the Congress ideology." He emphasised that choosing the path of non-violence was the only way to keep the nation united. "You must work with complete confidence and trust. You must always keep the Congress, like a vast tree, flourishing. Strengthen your identity to such an extent that your name is cheered," he said.
