AC/DC's Global Hit Reaches A Momentous Milestone

AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' reaches 100 weeks on the Billboard Global 200, becoming the band's first hit ... More to reach that triple-digit milestone. AC/DC, Thundersteruck video, Brixton Academy 8/17/90 (Photo by) Of the 200 tracks that appear on the Billboard Global 200, the chart company's ranking of the biggest songs throughout the world, only about one-fifth have racked up stays that include triple digits. The tally typically features a healthy blend of both brand new smashes from musicians around the globe as well as a number of classics that generate significant activity worldwide. AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' often ranks among the decades-old tunes that listeners just can't get enough of. As of this frame, the rock smash is now counted among that lucky current 20-something percent. 'Thunderstruck' Hits a Big Milestone 'Thunderstruck' has now been found on the Billboard Global 200 for one hundred frames. The track reaches the triple-digit milestone on the tally, which blends sales and streaming data to show what people everywhere are listening to, decades after its release, and nearly five years after Billboard introduced the rosters. At the moment, it settles at No. 141, up slightly from just a few days ago. AC/DC has sent five singles to the Billboard Global 200, and none of the other four have even managed 10 stays. 'Back in Black' remains the group's second-longest running win, with just half a dozen turns on the roster to its credit. The Song Climbs on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. 'Thunderstruck' can also be found on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., the partner list to the Billboard Global 200, which doesn't factor in streams or sales from American listeners. On that tally, AC/DC's cut jumps more than 20 spaces to No. 169, returning to its all-time peak. Unlike its performance on the Billboard Global 200, however, 'Thunderstruck' is nowhere near 100 weeks on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. It has now only appeared on that roster for 15 weeks. AC/DC's Lone Global Smash at the Moment 'Thunderstruck' is AC/DC's only hit on either global ranking at the moment. It makes sense, then, that it's also the group's biggest smash in America this week. 'Thunderstruck' lives in the runner-up spot on both the Hard Rock Streaming Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts. The cut also returns to the top 10 on the Rock Digital Song Sales tally, vaulting from No. 14 to No. 9.

AC/DC Bookends A Billboard Chart With Multiple Bestsellers In America

AC/DC bookends Billboard's Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart as 'Thunderstruck' returns to No. 1 ... More and 'Back in Black' reenters at No. 10. AC/DC, Thundersteruck video, Brixton Academy 8/17/90 (Photo by) AC/DC is always a major player on Billboard's hard rock charts. The band rarely scores new wins, either with albums or songs, so it is with the classics that the Australian rock outfit maintains a constant presence. Sometimes that comes in the form of just one tune, while in other instances, multiple tracks and even an album or two can find space on the weekly rankings. This time around, AC/DC scores a pair of hit songs, and the group even manages a relatively uncommon feat. AC/DC Sits at Nos. 1 and 10 The band bookends the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart this frame. AC/DC sits in first place, at No. 1, and also in the lowest rung at No. 10, as the tally only features 10 spaces these days. "Thunderstruck" rises from No. 3 back to the throne. The smash earns its sixty-first stay at No. 1 as it surges. At the same time, "Back in Black" returns to the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. This week, it comes in at No. 10, reentering the list in the lowest spot possible. "Thunderstruck" and "Back in Black" Keep Selling "Thunderstruck" and "Back in Black" have both already taken a turn at No. 1. While "Thunderstruck" is far and away the group's longest-running leader and the current champion, "Back in Black" has spent just two of its 547 stays on the tally in the spotlight. Another pair of tunes, "Shot in the Dark" and "Play Ball," have also reached the peak position, though neither manages to appear nearly as frequently as "Thunderstruck" or "Back in Black." AC/DC and Disturbed Stand Alone AC/DC is one of only two musical acts that fill more than one spot on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart this week. Disturbed also manages to do so, as its cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" comes in right behind "Thunderstruck," while "Don't Tell Me," a collaboration with Heart frontwoman Ann Wilson, reenters at No. 5.

AC/DC Sends Multiple Smashes Back To The Billboard Charts

AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' returns to No. 1 on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list while 'Back in Black' ... More reenters at No. 10, and both tunes reach multiple Billboard charts. (Photo by) Of all the many hits that AC/DC has released throughout the years, two stand out as the group's most enduring in the United States. It's those two tracks — 'Thunderstruck' and 'Back in Black' — that most frequently appear on the Billboard rankings. Between the two, 'Thunderstruck' can almost always be found on multiple lists, while during the right frames, 'Back in Black' also carves out a home on a ranking or two. Both of those smashes currently appear on multiple tallies, and they even manage to return to one chart apiece and live on another as well. 'Back in Black' Returns to the Top 10 Of the two comebacks, 'Back in Black' earns the loftier return at the moment. The tune reenters the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart at No. 10, coming in last place. The smash already ranks as one of AC/DC's top-performing cuts on the list of the bestselling hard rock tracks in the country, and it recently passed a decade on the tally. As it returns to the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, 'Back in Black' is also a winner again on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally, where it slips slightly to No. 24. 'Thunderstruck' Becomes a Global Smash Again 'Thunderstruck' also breaks back onto one list, and while it earns a much lower comeback than 'Back in Black,' it appears on twice as many Billboard rankings. 'Thunderstruck' reappears on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. in second-to-last place, at No. 199. At the same time, it climbs 10 spots on the Billboard Global 200 to No. 158, as American consumption clearly plays a big role in where AC/DC's track lands on the worldwide roster. 'Thunderstruck' Rockets to No. 1 'Thunderstruck' performs significantly better when looking at Billboard's U.S.-based tallies. The cut jumps from No. 3 to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales ranking, earning its sixty-first stay in the penthouse. The tune is a top five win on two of the company's hard rock-only lists, as 'Thunderstruck' pushes to No. 4 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs roster.

AC/DC can still hit the big notes

Even so, Laug, Chaney and Stevie Young were strictly background, the latter two only leaving their spots flanking the drum kit to walk mid-stage to their microphones for the occasional group chant before retreating once again. Johnson and Angus Young, on the other hand, had full reign of the stage, each with their trademark apparel: the singer playfully slumping in his workingman's cap and the guitarist duckwalking and skittering in his schoolboy uniform (albeit one a little more bespoke these days). Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up There were indications this many decades down the road that AC/DC was slowing down, but only indications. Angus Young's prismatic opening riff of 'Thunderstruck' was a hair sluggish – the song picked up noticeably after the pause announcing the arrival of the song's title – and the guitarist's madman stage moves were doled out in smaller, discrete chunks. And Johnson was largely garbled and incomprehensible, both during the songs and between them. Advertisement And it didn't matter. The singer was audible enough to fill his role and the guitarist was impish enough to still throw off sparks. The sound itself was resilient enough for 'Back In Black' to hit like a hammer, 'Whole Lotta Rosie' to swing like a wrecking ball and the guitars themselves to sound rude in the gleefully self-deprecating 'Shot Down In Flames.' Even the newest songs, 2020's 'Demon Fire' and 'Shot In The Dark,' did exactly what AC/DC songs need to do. And Angus Young still played with fire. 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' was mean and nasty (in both senses of the term), and the rangy whirlwind lead of 'Riff Raff' was a good match with the headlong propulsion of the rhythm. And 'Let There Be Rock' ended the set with a 25-minute showcase for the guitarist, who burned as the band played a one-note riff behind him before bouncing short chord bursts off the back of the stadium and launching into an extended solo above the drums. The rest of the band came back for an explosive 'T.N.T.,' followed by 'For Those About To Rock (We Salute You).' That's when the cannons came out.
