Strictly legend joins cast of ‘one of Netflix's best binge-watches' ahead of season 2
The hit Netflix series is currently filming its second season and has added a new cast member to join the already stacked ensemble Netflix's popular series, currently filming its second season, has just announced an exciting new addition to the cast. With a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a House of the Dragon star in the lead role, Geek Girl quickly became a must-watch for young adult viewers when it premiered last year. After concerns about potential cancellation, the series, which stars Emily Carey as a teenager who unexpectedly becomes a model, was finally renewed in April this year, almost a year after its debut. Filming is now well underway in London, with cast members Carey, Emmanuel Imani, Liam Woodrum, Rochelle Harrington, Zac Looker, Sarah Parish, Tim Downie, Jemima Rooper and Hebe Beardshall all set to return. Netflix shared the news this week along with a sneak peek at the cast's first table read for the upcoming season, reports the Express. The streaming giant also confirmed the thrilling addition of Layton Williams to the already impressive Geek Girl cast, where he will portray a character named Onassis. Recognised for his roles in Bad Education and I Hate Suzie, Williams is familiar to audiences from his participation in the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing alongside professional partner Nikita Kuzmin. They finished as joint runners-up with Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, while Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola took home the coveted Glitterball trophy that year. Netflix's synopsis for Geek Girl teases: "Based on the internationally bestselling novels by Holly Smale, Geek Girl follows socially awkward but endearing teenager Harriet Manners as she's unexpectedly thrust into the fashion world - navigating runway chaos, mean girls, and personal growth along the way. "Season 2 picks up as Harriet continues to juggle school life with the ever-escalating demands of modelling, friendships, and discovering who she truly wants to be." Fans are buzzing with excitement for the release of Geek Girl's second outing, following the first season's acclaim as one of Netflix's top YA series. ‘Geek Girl' Season 2 Casts Layton Williams & Rolls Cameras
Layton Williams has joined the cast of Netflix's Geek Girl as cameras roll on Season 2. The Olivier Award-winning actor, who is best known on the screen for roles in Bad Education and Everybody's Talking about Jamie, will play Onassis in the hit YA series. Returning cast members include Em Carey, Emmanuel Imani, Liam Woodrum, Rochelle Harrington and Zac Looker, alongside Sarah Parish, Tim Downie, Jemima Rooper, and Hebe Beardshall. More from Deadline 'Geek Girl' Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix After Delay Jeremy Irvine, Rupert Everett, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett & Layton Williams Set For Dance Comedy 'The Light Fantastic' - AFM 'Geek Girl' Co-Producer Aircraft Pictures Buys Back Stake From Canada's Corus Williams is best known for stage performances in shows including Everybody's Talking About Jamie and Celine Dion musical Titanique, the latter of which won him an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical earlier this year. He is starring in Chris Cottam's upcoming movie The Light Fantastic about a thirty-something gay firefighter who dreams of becoming a professional ballroom dancer. It took a fair while for Netflix to greenlight Geek Girl Season 2, mainly due to the financial struggles of its former Canadian producer Corus, but cameras have now rolled on the popular British-Canadian series in the UK. Based on the internationally bestselling novels by Holly Smale, Geek Girl follows socially awkward but endearing teenager Harriet Manners (Carey) as she's unexpectedly thrust into the fashion world — navigating runway chaos, mean girls and personal growth along the way. The half-hour series had made a strong case for renewal by spending four weeks in Netflix's Global Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at #2, reaching the Top 10 in 89 countries and amassing 28.1 million views in its first seven months of release. The solid performance, coupled with a pretty modest budget and positive reviews from critics, should've translated into a quick renewal were it not for Corus' struggles. Production has now switched to Canada's Boat Rocker alongside previous co-producer RubyRock Pictures. Smale is creator of the series with Jessica Ruston. Declan O'Dwyer (Miss Scarlet & The Duke) is director. EPs are showrunner Zoë Rocha and Robbie von Werz for RubyRock, along with Smale, Ruston, Jeff Norton, Declan O'Dwyer, and David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, and Jon Rutherford for Boat Rocker. Eddie Redmayne feeling ‘such pride' as Cabaret marks 1,500th show in London
'I feel such pride in what the show is, and having been some part of helping put it together, and I've been lucky enough to come and see almost all the cast who have taken over and really the show in its essence', he told the PA news agency at a special gala night. Eddie Redmayne attends the 76th British Academy Film Awards (Ian West/PA) 'I think our director's version of it is a celebration of the individual, and watching how the show shifts and changes as each actor brings their own entirety of themselves to it has been a real wonder and nothing makes me happier when I'm in London and I see a Cabaret poster go by on a bus, and I know that it's continuing to thrill each season, and kind of reflect what's going on in the world.' The show, which features music from composer John Kander, is set in Berlin during the jazz age as the Nazis rise to power. Set in the seedy Kit Kat Club, which acts as a safe space for outsiders, the story explores themes of sexuality and fascism. Redmayne told PA: 'Each time Cabaret has ever been put on, it's felt resonant, and it just, sadly, feels more and more resonant daily, and as John (Kander) says, he hopes one day it won't. 'But, in the meantime, sort of reflecting learning from our history is pretty important, but doing so in this joyful, bacchanalian, sort of, celebration of the individual is special.' Since Redmayne's performance, a number of other actors have played the Emcee at the Playhouse Theatre including Bad Education actor Layton Williams, Olivier Award-winning actor Luke Treadaway, US star Billy Porter, and It's A Sin actor, Callum Scott Howells. Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood, model Cara Delevingne, musical theatre star Marisha Wallace, and musician Self Esteem are among those who have played Sally Bowles. The musical theatre production is partly based on Christopher Isherwood's 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin which tells of the glamour, danger, excess and repression of Berlin society. Bridgerton actress Hannah Dodd is currently playing Sally Bowles while TikTok star Rob Madge is starring as the Emcee. Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is currently booking until Saturday March 28 2026.
