Bany keen to show Baggies best form after injury

West Bromwich Albion attacking midfielder Tammer Bany says he wants the fans to see what he is really capable of this season after a injury-hit start to his time at The Hawthorns. The 21-year was signed by then head coach Tony Mowbray in the winter transfer window for £3.3m from Danish Superliga side Randers FC but was restricted to only four substitute appearances because of hamstring issues. Now fit again, Bany is preparing for his first pre-season with the Baggies, under new head coach Ryan Mason. "I'm back trying to be as ready as I can be and to look as good as possible," he told BBC Radio WM at the club's training camp in Austria. Bany first arrived at Albion during his old club's winter break, meaning he had not played competitively in nearly three months. He said that was one factor that made getting up to speed with his new team-mates tough. "Coming from a break to the Championship was a little bit difficult," Bany said. "I got a little overloaded but I was ready for the last two games [of the season] but the staff said 'we want you to be ready for the start of next season' - so that's how it was. "I think I managed it OK but I had a small injury and they wanted to be more safe and not play me and me not be ready for the new season." Baggies sign Danish midfielder Bany from Randers Move to West Brom will be a step up - Heggebo Mason will be leader that West Brom need - Nestor Bany said his enforced absence from the team did allow him to settle into life in England and learn about the demands of the Championship while watching from the sidelines. "I got used to everything outside football and also on the pitch - the tempo, everything and, now I've been here since February, it was very important for me to get used to everything. "I'm looking forward to showing the best of myself and hopefully the fans will see that I'm not just someone who likes to enjoy playing with the ball, but also without it, I will help the team." With the Baggies taking a new direction under Mason, Bany says the former Tottenham and England midfielder is already making a big impression on the players. "He's been very good. He makes it easier to play because he gives us clear instructions and we have some structure to follow," he added. "I feel he likes to play the way I play and he's very clear on what he wants you to do but he also wants you to play free." Mowatt 'shocked' how good new boss Mason has been

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Alex Mowatt says he is "shocked" how good new rookie head coach Ryan Mason is at getting his ideas across to the is getting to know his squad as they prepare for the new Championship season at their training camp in Baggies job is former Tottenham coach Mason's first full-time management role and Mowatt said the ex-England midfielder has been very impressive."It's shocked me how good he's been at getting his message across," Mowatt, 30, told BBC Radio WM."It helps massively. The training's been good and he's high on standards. It's been a good intensity and the gaffer drives that - which was what was needed." Signed at the start of the 2021-22 season, Mowatt has experienced a host of managerial changes at The Hawthorns, with Mason the fifth permanent boss he has played season saw the sudden end of Carlos Corberan's two-and-a-half-year stay with his departure to Valencia at Christmas before Tony Mowbray's return as his replacement lasted only three says working under different managers in a short space of time brings its challenges so requires a bit of adapting."You just roll with it - sometimes you go from one extreme to the other, which maybe happened last season," he added."Sometimes it's difficult to adapt to it but it's about finding the right balance."With Carlos you didn't speak to him much but with Ryan you can have a conversation with him and he'll speak to you after training and get feedback from the lads which all helps." At 34, Mason is the second youngest head coach in the English Football League, with only Southampton's Will Still younger at boss Fabian Hurzeler, who turned 32 in February, is the youngest in the top four divisions in Mowatt says Mason's age is a positive thing."He's been at Spurs but he's just starting out [in management] and he's hungry to go far in the game and he has fresh ideas which helps," Mowatt said."I don't think the age thing really matters, when he's driving training like he does it doesn't make a difference. He's easy to talk to as well which helps me out."The fact Mason played in the middle of the park is another helpful dimension for Mowatt, who was coached by another England midfielder, Michael Carrick, during a season-long loan at Middlesbrough in 2022-23."Yeah, he can help me massively," Mowatt added. "He sees the game from a midfielder's point of view and how they want to get on the ball. I'm excited to work with him."I worked with Carrick before as well and the little tips he gave me helped so much and you think of those when you go into a game."

'Fascinating access to Mason's session'

[BBC] First, I'm delighted to reported that the torrential rain has disappeared. It's still breezy in Burgenland but there has been a glimpse of some blue sky above Albion's training base in Bad Tatzmannsdorf. Advertisement Today has been very insightful because I was granted access to one of Ryan Mason's training sessions and it was fascinating to watch the new head coach put his team through their paces. The first part of the session saw the 34-year-old watching light drills that were led by assistant coaches Nigel Gibbs, Damia Abella and James Morrison before Mason, who had donned a Baggies baseball cap, took over. I don't want to give too much away because I'm mindful that Mason was gracious enough to grant us this access, but the thing that stood out for me was how vocal he was and clear with his instructions. He didn't mind halting the session to get a specific point across. In terms of formation and style of play, we'll get more of an insight into that on Friday when Albion play Dynamo Kyiv in a behind closed doors friendly that I'm also being allowed to watch. Advertisement It's worth noting that Mikey Johnston is now back with the squad after the collapse of his move to Brazil. He looked very lively in the morning session, as did Isaac Price and Tom Fellows, who've both had busier summers than most because of international duty with Northern Ireland and England under-21s, respectively. New signing Aune Heggebo also looked strong and tenacious on the training field as he looks to impress his new boss. The camaraderie between the players was also evident. They finished with some seven-a-side action and it was extremely competitive between the four teams with plenty of banter flying around. They're now back inside for a break before heading out for another session in the afternoon as the hard work continues. BBC Radio WM will have a special 'Albion In Austria' programme from 18:00 BST on Wednesday, which you can listen to on BBC Sounds.

New striker Sule can be 'a game-decisive player' for Motherwell

Joining Motherwell on a season-long "makes sense" to Eseosa Sule as the striker returns to Scotland from West Brom. Sule, 19, spent over a decade with Scottish champions Celtic before moving to West Brom - who he has just signed a new deal with until the summer of 2027. Advertisement The forward has made one first-team appearance for the Baggies - in a League Cup game against Fleetwood Town - and says the opportunity for first-team minutes was one he "couldn't say no to". "I'm excited for this move," Sule said. "The chance to get regular first-team minutes was an opportunity I couldn't say no to. This move makes sense. Being from the area, I know the club and what it means to the supporters. "Many players have come here, and it has helped their development. I hope to be the next player to experience that." Sule arrives having been top goalscorer in Premier League 2 last season and Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou adds he is getting "a young forward with very interesting attributes". Advertisement "His speed, athleticism and ball-striking are all impressive," he said. "He is a positive, energetic and eager young man who possesses great potential, and we really look forward to developing him into a very valuable and game-decisive player for the team."
