Salman Khan's 'Battle of Galwan' update! Eid 2026 release unlikely; Makers now eye Bakri Eid

Salman Khan 's fans were recently treated to his striking first look from 'Battle of Galwan', a high-octane war drama directed by Apoorva Lakhia . The film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. The film has already generated immense buzz following its intense motion poster release. But now, it appears the makers are carefully reconsidering their release strategy. Not March, but May? Why the Film Might Skip Eid While Eid has often been Salman Khan's go-to release window, 'Battle of Galwan' may break that tradition. According to a report by Mid-Day, the team is likely to skip the Eid 2026 slot in mid-March due to the logistical challenges involved in filming. The war drama is set in the rugged terrain of Ladakh. Due to this it requires high-altitude shoots and complex action choreography. These conditions demand more time and precision. Reportedly, 'Battle of Galwan' is a war film mounted on a big scale. Shooting in Ladakh is already demanding along with action set-pieces. Reportedly, the team doesn't want to rush the shoot or post-production just to meet an early deadline. Bakri Eid Likely, Independence Day a Backup The makers are now eyeing Bakri Eid 2026, which falls on May 27. If post-production is delayed further, the Independence Day weekend in August is being considered as a fallback. Informal discussions have already begun with exhibitors to block potential release windows. Interestingly, Kartik Aaryan 's Naagzilla had originally claimed the Bakri Eid slot but has yet to go into production. Star Cast Update: Chitrangda Singh Joins the Line-Up Actress Chitrangda Singh has joined the cast, raising anticipation even further. Salman Khan is reportedly set to shoot for 20 days in Ladakh, along with 8 days of intense water-based sequences. The final release date of 'Battle of Galwan' is expected to be locked by December 2025—but the buzz has already begun. Salman Khan's previous outing was 'Sikandar'. Opposition criticises Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane for remarks about using Marathi in madrasas

The Opposition in Maharashtra on Wednesday accused state minister Nitesh Rane of fuelling communal tensions for electoral gains after he suggested that Marathi should be used instead of Urdu in madrasas and for the azaan at mosques, The Indian Express reported. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader made the statements on Saturday while responding to reports that the Congress was launching Marathi schools in several parts of Mumbai, The Hindu reported. Rane claimed that the Opposition should ask Muslims to teach Marathi in madrasas and recite the azaan in the language instead of Urdu, adding that 'otherwise, all you get from there is a gun'. The azaan, the Muslim call to prayer, is traditionally recited in Arabic, not Urdu. Opposition parties described his statements as 'provocative' and aimed at 'creating tensions'. Congress leader Amin Patel noted that madrasas already used English, Hindi and Marathi, The Hindu reported. Noting that language and religion were two different things, Patel asked: 'Is Nitesh Rane himself taking any Marathi classes?' Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Shashikant Shinde said that such decisions were the responsibility of the home ministry, The Indian Express reported. 'There is no need to create unnecessary tension,' the newspaper quoted him as saying. 'If he wants Marathi to be taught in madrasas, who is stopping him? As a minister, he should raise such matters in the Cabinet, not make provocative public statements.' Shinde's party colleague Rohit Pawar claimed that Rane's remarks were politically motivated, The Hindu reported. He added that the statements were similar to the 'Hindu-Muslim card' used in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 'Marathi versus non-Marathi' rhetoric in local polls. 'It is the home ministry's duty to investigate whether the madrasa has guns or bombs,' the newspaper quoted Shinde as saying. 'Mr Rane should not divide people for politics, or fuel communal sentiments.' Accusing Rane of hypocrisy, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that if you looked at Rane's old social media posts, 'you will see that he used to welcome the Tablighi Jamaat's Ijtema. He used to extend greetings. And now he wants azaan in Marathi?' The Ijtema is an annual three-day religious gathering organised by the Islamic organisation. In June, the BJP leader had again stirred a controversy after he asked why environmentalists and animal activists were not appealing for Bakri Eid to be celebrated 'virtually'. Rane claimed that activists 'selectively' and only targeted Hindu festivals like Holi and Diwali. Bakri Eid, also known as Eid-al-Adha, is a Muslim festival that commemorates the spirit of sacrifice. The festival entails the slaughtering of livestock. At the time, Maharashtra Minority Commission chairperson Pyare Khan had claimed that Rane was making remarks by quoting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' name, which was 'not right'. He accused the minister of sowing divisions and targeting Indian Muslims in the name of Pakistan. In April too, Khan had accused Rane of repeatedly engaging in hate speech

Telangana teacher suspended for bringing ‘cow brain' to class to teach students about anatomy

Her teaching method, read the suspension order, caused 'immense discomfort among the students and hurt the sentiments of students and parents'. The bio-science teacher in question, identified as Khasimbee, was suspended in an order dated 25 June, signed by the district education officer of Vikarabad district. Hyderabad: A government school teacher from Telangana's Vikarabad district has been suspended for bringing what authorities suspect was a cow's brain to teach students about the animal's anatomy for a biology class. The incident, which took place at the Zilla Parishad Girls High School in Yalal Mandal, led to protests from Right-wing groups. According to Vikarabad District Superintendent Narayana Reddy, a case has been registered, and the brain sample has also been sent to the Telangana Forensics Science Laboratory to determine if it belongs to a cow. 'We have registered a case. She brought it as part of her class (to teach), we were told,' he told ThePrint. Adding, 'Since it was raw meat, a few students could not bear the smell and vomited.' Since cow slaughter is banned in Telangana, this amounted to an offence under the law, he said. 'We need to check if it was of a cow. She could have brought the brain of any other animal instead.' Under Telangana Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act, 1977, 'bull, bullock, buffalo, male or female, or calf, whether male or female of a she-buffalo' are protected. The definition of a cow 'includes a heifer, or a calf, whether male or female, of a cow'. The incident prompted protests, held near the school, by Right-wing groups. Protesters were pacified by police. Reddy told ThePrint that nobody was injured in the protests. This comes days after cow vigilantes reportedly thrashed cattle traders in the days leading up to Bakri Eid (7 June). Within 24 hours of the festival, two major incidents of violence were reported, including a vehicle carrying cattle waste getting torched in the Jalpally area of Hyderabad. On 17 June, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also formed a three-member committee to formulate a 'comprehensive' policy for cow protection in the state. According to a statement from his office, the three-member panel will look to set up cow shelters with state-of-the-art facilities at four locations in the first phase. Members of the committee include special chief secretary of the animal husbandry department Sabyasachi Ghosh, principal secretary to endowments department Shailaja Ramaiyar, and secretary of the state agriculture department Raghunandan Rao. Assam: More than 150 arrested for Dhubri communal violence, says CM

More than 150 persons have been arrested in connection with the communal tensions that broke out in Assam's Dhubri town on June 8, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday. The tensions had erupted after the remains of an animal were discovered near a Hindu temple. 'Our zero tolerance approach, along with apprehending 150 anti-social elements, is working but we are not lowering our guard against communal forces,' Sarma said in a social media post. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader added that his government was mulling setting up a permanent base of the Indian Army 'to strengthen the security apparatus in this sensitive district'. On June 14, Sarma said 38 persons had been arrested for the violence, besides 22 others who were held previously. A day before, he had issued shoot-at-sight orders in the area for nighttime. The chief minister visited the area for the second time within 10 days on Tuesday, PTI reported. Widespread protests broke out in Dhubri on June 8 morning, with a large number of residents blocking a road adjacent to the temple. They shouted slogans and burnt tyres as part of their demonstration. They also prevented the police from removing the remains of the animal, insisting that it must remain untouched until 'those responsible are identified and arrested'. During his last visit to Dhubri, Sarma had claimed that the animal remains found near the temple were part of the head of a cow. 'The day after Bakri Eid [on June 8], some persons kept a severed cow head in front of a Hanuman temple,' claimed Sarma. 'Representatives of both the communities met thereafter, a peace committee meeting was held and the conflict seemed to have been resolved.' The chief minister claimed that the next day, another severed animal head was found in front of the temple premises, which sparked violence. He also claimed that a day before Bakri Eid, a poster showing Dhubri to be part of Bangladesh was found in the town. Sarma alleged that a group was attempting to spread tensions in the area.

Medha Kulkarni demands Pune railway station be named after Thorle Bajirao; NCP (SP) objects

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni on Monday demanded that Pune Railway Station be renamed Thorle Bajirao Peshwa Pune Railway Station, invoking the legacy of the Maratha general. Kulkarni argued that several organisations had submitted demands for renaming the station after Bajirao Peshwa. (HT) The demand, raised during a meeting convened by the Pune Railway Division to discuss issues concerning the Pune and Solapur regions, was met with objection from Nationalist Congress Party (SP) spokesperson and former mayor Ankush Kakade. 'We are not in favour of changing the name of Pune Railway Station, which has a long history. If the central government insists on renaming, they should also consider names like Mahatma Jyotiba Phule or Gopal Krishna Gokhale, along with Bajirao Peshwa,' Kakade said. Kulkarni argued that several organisations had submitted demands for renaming the station after Bajirao Peshwa and said the Prime Minister and the central government favour reflecting local history through public spaces such as railway stations. 'There is no representation of Pune's rich history at the station. I demand that it be renamed after Thorle Bajirao Peshwa,' she said. The meeting was also attended by MPs Amol Kolhe and Nilesh Lanke. Kulkarni has recently taken up several issues tied to cultural and religious sensitivities. During Hanuman Jayanti, she visited a dargah and asked that the volume of loudspeakers be reduced, citing temple prayers nearby. She also wrote to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) demanding that Sarasbaug be shut down after Bakri Eid, alleging that religious rituals and non-vegetarian food were involved on the premises. The PMC subsequently closed access to the garden. Her latest demand comes at a time when both the central and state governments have undertaken renaming exercises. The Maharashtra government recently changed the names of Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar and Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar.
