Balearia Adds High-Speed Ferry to Tarifa-Tangier Route
Rabat – Spanish ferry company Balearia has expanded its services between Tarifa in Spain and Tangier in Morocco, by adding a new high-speed ferry, the Jaume I, starting today, Friday. The ferry departed from the port of Tarifa at 11:00 AM.
The Jaume I can carry over 600 passengers and 150 vehicles. With this new addition, Balearia will increase its daily trips on this route from four to six.
The company plans to further expand the service in the upcoming weeks and offer between eight and 12 daily trips, depending on demand.
'It's a very important route for our customers, for Moroccans, and for all tourists visiting Morocco, particularly the city of Tangier,' said Bassoul, a Balearia spokesperson. 'We aim to offer a comfortable and punctual service to all those who place their trust in Baleària.'
Balearia has been operating between Spain and Morocco for over 20 years. This new Tarifa–Tangier route is the company's fourth connection between the two countries. It already runs services from Tangier Med to Algeciras and Motril, and from Nador to Almeria.
Balearia also announced that it has won a 15-year contract (2025–2040) to operate this route. As part of the agreement, the company will introduce two new electric ships with 800 passenger seats each. These vessels, to be built in Spain, will offer 100% electric travel, making this route the first 'Green Corridor' between Africa and Europe.
'We hope that once the service is up and running, all those who travel with us will enjoy a journey free of noise, vibrations, and emissions,' concluded the spokesperson. Tags: ferryMorocco spainTangier Tarifa
