Admn geras up to make Ludhiana ‘stubble burning-free' dist
Ludhiana: To make Ludhiana a 'stubble burning-free' district, the administration launched a special campaign to distribute subsidised crop residue management equipment to farmers expeditiously in the coming weeks. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Presiding over a meeting, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Rakesh Kumar stated that burning paddy stubble was harmful to the environment as well as living beings. He emphasised that setting fire to paddy stubble was highly detrimental as it damaged soil health and causes significant environmental harm. "The stubble burning destroys several essential nutrients and micronutrients in the soil," said an official statement. Kumar urged farmers to adopt modern in-situ management techniques instead of burning stubble. "To encourage this, the administration and the agriculture department are providing machines such as Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder, Baler, Rake, Mulcher, Paddy Chopper Shredder, and RMB Plough at subsidised rates. Individual farmers are eligible for a 50% subsidy, while farmer groups and cooperative societies can avail an 80% subsidy. So far, over 600 crop residue management machines were approved, and 315 farmers already purchased them." Directing the heads of the food, civil supplies, and consumer affairs department and procurement agencies to prepare for a smooth and uninterrupted paddy procurement season starting Oct 1, ADC Rakesh Kumar ordered all necessary arrangements to be completed by Sept 15. Appealing for the support of all stakeholders to make the upcoming procurement season successful, the ADC emphasised that no laxity would be tolerated in this regard.
