How lockdown and fame shattered Berita's marriage to Nota Baloyi: a story of heartbreak and healing

Berita has opened up about her painful split from music executive Nhlamulo 'Nota' Baloyi during a candid conversation on the podcast 'The Voice with Palesa'. The 'Thandolwethu' hitmaker reflected on how their once-thriving marriage began to unravel in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic , sharing that external pressures and personal changes ultimately led to their divorce. Multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Berita (real name Gugulethu Khumalo) has opened up about her painful split from music executive Nhlamulo 'Nota' Baloyi during a candid conversation on the podcast 'The Voice with Palesa'. In the deeply personal interview, Berita revealed how the 2020 lockdown dramatically impacted their relationship. As the world grappled with isolation, Baloyi found a new voice in public discourse, emerging as a controversial commentator whose outspoken views in the music industry soon caused friction in their home. 'We went into lockdown. I don't know what happened during that time, but I think a lot changed… He decided that he wants to be a critic and use his voice in different ways, and I didn't have a problem,' Berita explained. But as Baloyi embraced his new public persona, Berita struggled with the fallout for her brand. 'When I tried to talk to him about his new ways and how it was affecting my brand, he told me straight that it wasn't his fault that I am too quiet.' Social media, she noted, played a pivotal - and often painful - role in their troubles. As Baloyi's public profile grew more assertive, Berita found the dynamic increasingly difficult to navigate. 'You marry someone thinking you know them, then they develop a new personality… until that personality starts harming you.' Their separation, which reportedly took place in 2022, marked the beginning of Berita's journey to reclaim her life and career. 'I'm sharing this because I know many people are in relationships where their partners change, especially under the spotlight of social media.'

'I love Chiefs but I support Pirates'

Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has revealed that he has always been a supporter of Orlando Pirates despite playing the majority of his career with Amakhosi. The 51-year-old retired goalkeeper played over 400 matches for Chiefs before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004 where he won two league titles with them. Between 1997 and 2009, Baloyi featured 24 times for Bafana Bafana and was the first-choice keeper at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1998. The Chiefs legend has revealed that he has always been a big supporter of Pirates. 'I'm not confused. The person that always tries to expose me is Jerry Sikhosana, every time we're together in many interviews, he always tells people that I'm a Pirates supporter and I don't deny it,' Baloyi said iDiski Dine YouTube Channel. 'But the reason I support Pirates is that my uncle played for Pirates, my uncle was a Pirates captain, Phil Jones Setshedi. So growing up, my whole family supported Pirates,' said the ex-Kaizer Chiefs keeper 'So this is what I say to people, I love Chiefs (but on the other hand) I support Pirates. It's the love (that I go with),' Baloyi is not the only player who grew up supporting one Soweto team but ended up playing for their rivals. Former Bafana Bafana star Teko Modise was a big Chiefs supporter but ended up playing for Pirates. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi questions Bruce Bvuma's commitment

Bvuma lacks heart Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has given his opinion on the club's goalkeeping situation, where Bruce Bavuma is the incumbent number one. Photo: BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix South African football icon Brian Baloyi doesn't believe Kaizer Chiefs' incumbent number one Bruce Bvuma has the heart to play for the club. Baloyi came through the ranks at Kaizer Chiefs in the 1990s, and became one of the best players as they won a host of competitions, earning the nickname 'Spider-Man' during a 11-year-stay with the club. After he left, he was replaced by Rowen Fernandez and later Itumeleng Khune, as the club's goalkeeping situation was in safe hands for almost two decades. However, in recent years, Chiefs have struggled to find some consistency in between the sticks. Last season, a number of players were entrusted with the gloves, and Bvuma beat out Fiacre Ntwari and Brandon Peterson for the starting job. Speaking on iDiski Dine, Baloyi said Bvuma doesn't have what it takes to play for big clubs like Chiefs or Pirates. 'You look at Bruce (Bvuma) he has gotten the best training that any kid can ever get (because) he started in the juniors with proper training, but he doesn't have a big heart,' said Baloyi, who was capped 24 times at international level. 'He doesn't have the presence, for Pirates and Chiefs. For me, when I look at a goalkeeper, a goalkeeper with talent and technique and stuff, I would overlook them over a goalkeeper that has raw talent. 'If you look at Bruce, yigwala (coward).' Baloyi also added that when he was the club's goalkeeper coach back in 2017, he recommended they sign Oscarine Masuluke, but those please went on deaf ears. 'When I was at Chiefs in 2017, Oscarine Masuluke came on trial and when I train him, he said to me, this is the first time I'm getting (proper) goalkeeper coaching,' said Baloyi. 'I looked at him we trained, and he stayed with us for three months. After two months I said to Bobby and Steve (Komphela) sign him they refused. 'And they never understood. And I said to them he has never had goalkeeper training but what he had was presence, and a big heart. 'So, those are some of things that you can overlook over technique especially for a big club.' Limpopo e-learning app secures R1m investment

LIMPOPO – What began as a dream between two childhood best friends from Gumbani village outside Malamulele has become a national success story. Marvel Shimbambu and Malungelo Mathonsi, co-founders of the e-learning app Novar, have secured a R1 million investment from Liberty to support the next phase of their growing platform. The journey started with determination and humble beginnings. With no formal training, facilities, or funding, the duo purchased a second-hand computer for R700 and taught themselves to code using YouTube tutorials. Their vision was simple but powerful: to improve access to quality education in under-resourced communities. The result was Novar, a free, interactive e-learning app that offers curriculum-aligned content, virtual learning tools, and information about bursaries. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded more than 50 000 times, empowering learners across South Africa. Their story gained widespread attention when social media content creator Austin Macaskill shared it on his platform, @coolstorybru_za, sparking national admiration and support. Global tech company IBM has taken note, enrolling the Novar founders in its prestigious Enterprise Development Class of 2025. Through this programme, Marvel and Malungelo will receive expert mentorship, technical support, and access to IBM's global innovation network to help scale their platform. In a significant show of support, Liberty's head of business efficiencies and sustainable impact, Amelia Beattie, announced a R1 million investment into Novar. This funding will help the team enhance their platform and expand their impact. Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi praised both Liberty and IBM for their support of the young innovators. 'The backing from IBM and Liberty shows the transformative power of investing in home-grown talent. It sets a standard for the private sector. By adopting a whole-of-society approach, we can bring together government, industry, and communities to turn brilliant ideas into sustainable businesses,' said Minister Malatsi. 'This aligns with our vision for South Africa's digital future, ensuring young innovators from all corners of the country have the opportunity to thrive.' Back in Gumbani, the local community is celebrating the success of its young trailblazers. Community leader and activist Bishop Baloyi praised the pair for their dedication and discipline. 'These boys are a shining example to the youth of our village,' said Baloyi. 'We urge the government to install broadband and internet infrastructure in rural areas. Our young people are full of potential, but they need the tools to grow. What these two have done is groundbreaking; they defied the odds and are now helping to build a better future.'
